Prediction Changes vs. Brisbane

To be honest, I feel like last night was just a bad day at the office. It was the first time this season where we haven't shown the same intensity and pressure as we have in our previous games - too many ball watchers and a lack of run.

We've been unlucky not to beat 1 or 2 of the 4 games against GWS, Crows, Cats, WC, and had we done so, there'd be much less concern as to where we're at. We will beat Brisbane next week, but I want to see changes made to show players that no one's spot in the 22 is secure.

Bring in Eddy or Marshall (just get some games into him) in to help Dixon. Would like to see Monfries, Atley, Houston, or Palmer all looked at for next game. Maybe move Hartlett to wing and Trengrove back, I don't know. Just need to make some changes.

However, last night did not reflect our season thus far, and I don't think it is an indicator of where we're at or what's to come. Back on track next week.

Eddy, Frampton, Howard, Monfries, Palmer

Just make at least one of these happen, for the love of God.

Before the Maggies game starts I'm going this.

IN: Eddy, Monfries, Atley, Howard
OUT: S.Gray, Toumpas (both plodders), Boak (the statement that needs to be made), R.Gray (rest)

Move Hartlett up the ground.

Listening to Aaron Greaves, there won't be wholesale changes. They want to back in the team that has been working together this year to get the job done, or almost done...although a few who have been under performing a bit the last few games will be discussed....sigh

What's the point of a full list if we don't play inform players?

Out.

Toumpas and Ah Chee to be dropped and de-listed.
Hartlett to be dropped and i don't know what to do with HH.
Impey to be dropped to work on his game and kicking.

In.

Houston. Why was he ever dropped?
Atley. Need to blood some players.
Palmer. It's time to give him a run of games.
Monfries / Eddy. Give us some experience and structure.

I'd be happy to give Bonner, Johnson, Austin a run in the first's.

I'm a huge fan of Hombsch but his game tonight wasn't just a little bit under par. It was (IMO) quite clearly the worst game a PAFC player has played all year. Essendon were playing through his man like he was a traffic cone.

As it says in my edit I'd probably prefer to give him a reprieve and rest Robbie instead, but if he loses his spot after that performance he has no right to feel aggrieved.

Hombsch didn't look like he was moving freely at the ground. Not sure if he copped an early knock or brought something into the match but it was very out of character for him to lag so far behind his opponents all night!

Can't remember the last time a Port coach had so many Magpie players vying for spots in the firsts. Monfries, Atley, Howard, Drew etc etc. Ken's spoilt choice. But he doesn't want to make the 'tough' calls a lot of supporters see as pretty obvious.

Well if what Hamish said on Footy SA is anything to go by Gus has just about had his papers stamped due to being 30 years old because "Ken will be more inclined to play the youth" mentioned Neade & Johnson who are playing similar roles.

This frustrates the hell out of me out of all our losses what was the key in driving the counter attack which chopped us apart time & time again? The loose rebound half back flanker Heath Shaw (massive last quarter), Mackie, Yeo (probably polls 3 votes) & last night old man James Kelly basically did what he wanted without anyone going near him.

Now what's the deal Ken? How can you not see the recurring issue with our forward line that we're far too unaccountable allowing the playmaker just create constant counter attacks & not bring in Gus who was and probably still could be one of the best forward line taggers to shut down players that have all but won games off their own boot?

Why is there even a limit to age I thought we were playing for a flag now? If age is a deciding factor might as well retire Boak now because he's not all of a sudden going to get back to his AA best playing the role Gus should be playing.

Why was Gus given a contract? Makes zero sense.

It's ridiculous to have an age restriction on a best 22 of a club that's one of a handful vying for a top 4 finish, moreso why gift games to Toumpas when it's obvious he's not going to be on the list next year?

It's like he's trying to find out who's worth persisting with for the future as we go instead of picking the absolute best 22 for structure week in week out when we've got a full list to pick from.

If Ken could legitimately say with a straight face that Gus isn't a better shutdown half forward than Boak, sGray, Young or even Robbie i'll eat my membership card.

Good news, you'se blokes! Youngy has regained his form, with 15 disposals and 3 scoring shots to halftime. Yeah, nah, he'll come in for Jimmy.

Who is this Howard bloke I seen you'se blokes talking about?

Regards,
Ken H.

P.s oh Howard, yeah all good.i remember now. He's over 170cm and is a KPP. We'll strike him of the list for selection consideration.

Oh, yeah, nah, he suffered a knee injury last year, dint'ee? Sad end to a career, but we got plenty'a good blokes to cover him like Neadey and Young. We know what these blokes offer us and we know they can play a role in our side. I'm backing our boys in to respond.

Regards,
Ken H.

Gus just the 5 touches did he get injured or just can't be bothered keeping up that star reserve performances knowing he more than likely won't get picked?

Dougz a bag of 5 with over a qtr to go, better get given a chance considering he fits the age requirement even though he doesn't fit the hobbit flanker criteria.

Jacko to the backline, Hamish a run with the Maggies with Hombsch playing his role, Howard up forward to help Dixon simples

To be honest, I feel like last night was just a bad day at the office.

Which is an unavoidable reality in professional sport, but the cold reality is that since the highwater mark of this regime, there's been about a month of bad days.

If there was a 2014-2017 premiership table for losses as favourite I'm confident we'd be clear on top.

No disrespect to the Lions, but they are one of the worse possible teams to play against next week. This game will simply be another white wash affair. When the final siren sounds the players will congratulate one another on a job well done, only to meekly surrender against stiffer opposition the following week.

The time to make a meaningful change on selection is now. If Ken doesn't make a bold statement this week, he should fall on his sword and acknowledge the fact that he lacks the courage to lead from the front.

OUT

Hartlett
A shadow of his former self. Woefully out of form & likely his poorest game to date. A performance completely void of passion, work rate & determination. The penetrating long kick is gone and IMO so has his career.

Toumpas: Was better then many of his more highly rated teammates, but long term view suggests he doesn't possess the weapons to cut it at this level.

Impey: Has loads of ability but lacks considerable workrate, poorly skilled, & becomes a non-factor & irrelevant when the teams struggling. Not giving up on him, but desperately needs a long spell in the twos to teach him some important lessons which will make him a better player in the future.

R Gray: Pls cut the BS Ken and send him to the paddock for a spell to try and get his groins right. On a side note, his decision to not hunt the loose ball and appeal for a free instead, cost the team a certain goal. I don't give a flying **** if your the clubs best player, that piss weak effort is inexcusable.

Hombsch: Was pants and made to look second rate last night. Slow to react & beaten in the contest far too often. Is a much better player then what we witnessed yesterday, but makes way for team balance and the fact that Jonas and Clurey are currently more in form. Trengove to head back and fill his shoes.

Ins

Houston: Unlucky to be dropped in the first place. Reads the play better the Hammer, makes smarter decisions then Hammer, & is a more reliable kick then Hammer.

Bonner: This kid still has a lot to learn, but does have some game breaking weapons to call upon. Is pacy, can break lines, and kick it long. The time is now.

Monfries: Gets the nod over Krak & Palmer, but not by much. Lacks the flamboyance & pace of Impey, but far more consistent and reliable. A smart, proven footballer who can kick goals & still has a lot to offer.

Atley: This kid has star potential written all over him. He possesses a fearless, hard nosed attitude, & relishes the contest. Can still burn the ball, but willing to accept some blunders to help fast track his development.

Howard: Is versatile, and can play a multiple of different roles. Heads up front to support Charlie which frees up Jackson to do what he does best in defense.

B: Don't ~ Care ~ Don't
HB: Care ~ Don't ~ Care
C: Don't ~ Care ~ Don't
HF: Care ~ Don't ~ Care
F: Don't ~ D. Howard ~ Care
R: Care ~ Don't ~ Care
I: Don't, Care, Don't, Care
