Prediction Changes vs. Brisbane

When you're sitting here half-hoping Brisbane wins because of what it would mean for certain coaches, players and overpaid fitness gurus, the axe should probably be swung. Hard.

In: Thurstans

Roger James would be handy too whist we are getting Toby out of retirement.

Surely Gray needs a rest, injured and now playing for fees, he's just not right. Monfries for Gray, I'd also bring Eddy in, no point of drafting him to keep him in the seconds.

If there is a game where changes have to be made due to a terrible performance than here it is, otherwise they will never happen.

Ken is starting to have a stubborn Choco-esque smell about him, gold pass central.

I don't like Pittard, why was Houston dropped? Hartlett has head issues and Sam Gray continues to squander opportunities in front of goals.

There are a bunch of easy changes Ken, it's about time you actually did them to send a messsge.

Just watched Ken's presser, so basically he rewards form in the magpies and he will back them in to respond meaning I doubt there will be any message sent to any senior players.

He at least looked pissed off for a change.

How can you possibly back this group to "respond"? They had an entire off season to figure out how they'd respond to a 3 point preliminary final loss and look what they've served up ever since. They have no heart and no pride.
They will respond the same way they always do. By beating up on a hapless weak opponent and getting back their laughable "we're back" swagger.
Selection has arrived at the point where we continue to pick some players because they didn't contribute any major **** up the week before. Sam Gray will get his 30 and 3 against Brisbane and all will be good for him again. Toumpas the same. Rather than rewarding form we're rewarding a player's ability to tread water.
I've remained pretty upbeat this year and couldn't quite understand all the negativity. Boy oh boy was I put in my place last night. The moment Essendon shut down the corridor and our ability to move the ball the heads dropped. This happened in the first 5 minutes
So whatever, pick who you want. This group is never taking us to a flag. Too busy taking shirtless selfies with Chad Cornes at BBQ's to worry about playing football.

Yeah yeah we know. The fish rots from the tail.

Despite what happened tonight, I think wecould go into next week unchanged and still pump out another 10+ goal win against crap opposition. That shouldn't be the point of our selections this week. The point should be a) to put a rocket up these guys that their positions in the side aren't as locked in as they thought, and b) to try to make sure the guys who benefit from the expected confidence boosting win are newbies with potential like Atley, Palmer and Eddy rather than known quantities with limited ceilings like S. Gray and Toumpas.

Brisbane weren't bad against Freo. Their game plan looked more than a bit like ours when we get it right. I don't think they are crap if they buy in to making it work. Brisbanes mids were all back in and looked good.

Gus fires today he comes in.
We picked Drew as emergency ok either him or Houston.
Atley goes well today please.

Maybe Neade travelled because it was etihad and the ball getting out the back was a worry but on a real football ground I'm not sure he's a likely in

On changes: "Yeah we'll look at it. I'm not going to sit here tonight and say we'll make lots of changes. But we'll reward - we always have - we'll continue to reward performance and obviously tonight some people put themselves at risk...so that's what should happen."

Should. Not will. But I guess he's saying that it's not guaranteed unless the Magpies put their hand up. Gus, Palmer, Drew, Atley, Eddy - they all need a big game today because there are spots available.

On Gray: "Rob's getting to a point where he's feeling like he's nearly right again. He has worked through some trying times...but nothing unusual to what he's done in the past."

So he has been playing under duress and you've just been playing yourself, Ken. Cause no one believed he was right.

The statement about backing them was in response to where the club sits in the pecking order. It was about the team as a whole, the game style, the coaching staff etc. It wasn't about backing the 22 that played.

Out:
Toumpas, Hartlett, AhChee, Impey

Drew, Houston, Atley, Palmer

I don't expect Ken to make many changes against Brisbane its not his way. We might have 3 injuries and he will use that as an excuse to not drop underachievers and under performers.

I want us to make 2 or 3 changes a week so we get to a side that looks something like the one below.

I am sick and ******* tired of a decade plus black hole where we don't have a proper 2nd KPF in the side. Westhoff isn't a KPF FFS!!! In desperation we have to look to a 27 year old rookie who dominates at state league. Just ******* play Eddy over some useless fumbles and bumbles type 180cm forward type who cant kick goals and isnt much chop. And if Eddy isn't good enough play Todd Marshall. Jack Riewoldt was a skinny 86kg KPF and played 8 games in his first year. Marshall is already 88kgs.

I love Jacko and wanted him to succeed up forward, he took 4 contest marks in our forward half and 2 inside 50 tonight, but he isn't the answer up forward. He goes out of the game for too long up forward and I'd rather have him go out of the game for long periods down back where he spoils and stops the oppo KPF getting the ball. Plus we need taller KPD's. We put so much pressure on Jonas, Hombsch and Clurey as undersized KPD's that it catches up and tonight the dam wall busted. ******* Cale Hooker could have kicked 8 goals tonight. A bloody defender who out muscled his shrimp Port KPD opponents. And Daniher the same.

Jonas has been playing out of his weight and height division all year and done a great job. Buy Ken is grinding him into the ground and we were exposed tonight when he got hurt and came off the ground and played the rest of the game injured. Hombsch and Clurey jumped against their bigger opponents and were out muscled and fell over each other and their small forwards crumbed the off the pack balls.

Its time we set up 2 197cm+ KPD's in Howard and Jacko and let Jonas and Hombsch/Clurey be the interceptors rather than the one on one defenders on the KPF's.

The blokes I have put on the bench I don't really care anymore if they come in and out of the 22. They are all expandable. They have all under performed this year, big time. They make too many ****s up fumbling bumbling the ball and burn the ball and cause big turnover goals to the oppo. The trouble is they could be replaced by half a dozen or so other fumblers and bumblers. And a few kids need a bit more time before they become regulars.

We really need White to capture his speed and skill of 2014 and 2015 otherwise he isnt much use to us.

Its time to drop the $500k+ guys to the Magpies for a wake up call. Sydney have done it a couple of times now with spud Tippet and the crows with jerker Jenins. Time for Ken - to paraphrase Keating - pull out the sword and use it, and drop underachievers and under performers.

Jonas........Howard...... Hombsch or Clurey
Broadbent..Trengove.....Houston
Polec...........Wines.......Westhoff
Monfries....... Dixon.......Wingard
R Gray.......... Eddy........Palmer
Ryder........... Ebert....... Powell-Pepper
===========================
Boak...........Pittard........DBJ......Impey
Very good post REH and agree 100%

Atley, Palmer, Monfries, Howard, Eddy and Houston all deserve to come in but realistically that will only happen when hell freezes over. Expecting three uninspiring changes.

SGray, Toumpas, AhChee, Hartlett, Pittard, Impey are in the firing line. Robbie needs a rest. So does Sam.

We need to sort out our tall defender situation because as much as I love Jacko, he's not a legitimate forward threat against top 8 sides.
Which means we have six tall defenders in jacko, hombsch, clurey, doogs, austin and jonas to fit in. One has to go at the end of the year.

This is more an overall view and not based just off last night but....

Toump: shouldn't have stayed in and isn't an AFL level player - out, never bring him back.

Hartlett: I love the guy but his body is quite obviously shot. He can't run freely or jump. Its time to hang them up.

Ah Chee: Not AFL standard, needs to go. Again another plodder who doesn't do anything at above average level (outside 30m handballs)

Jaspar: if the offers he's reportedly getting are half true let him walk. He's shown no signs of form and still makes poor decisions 100 games into his career.

Trengove: again love the guy but I he's such an in between player - not big enough to ruck full time, not agile enough up forward and not a good enough ball user to be down back. I think its time to cut and run, especially if the contract demands are high.

Surely Gray needs a rest, injured and now playing for fees, he's just not right. Monfries for Gray, I'd also bring Eddy in, no point of drafting him to keep him in the seconds.

but Hinkley said last night R Gray was almost feeling back to his best in the presser last night. Can't see him being rested.

100% agree.

We don't need to be going around matching any 5 year $3million dollar contracts for him.

North Melbourne denied making that offer. Have also threaten to sack anyone who talks to his manager.

As much as it is about rewarding good form in the SANFL - which seems dubious, how about not rewarding average form week after week in the senior team....

AhChee and Toumpas will be out, barely spent half on the ground so Ken clearly doesn't trust them.
I assume Young and one of Monfries/White/Neade/Johnson will replace, which does nothing to fix the structural issues we have.

Trying to suggest changes in a balanced way...not emotional and after last night not easy;
Defence;
Need a tall; Austin or Howard
Running defenders; Bonner and Houston
Midfield; Atley
Fwd/Mid: speed therefore AJ (Johnson)
Fwd: Tall; either Eddy &/or Doogs, possibly Marshall (youth could be an advantage)
Fwd Small: Gus and / Krak

Players under the pump: Pittard, Hartlett, Arch, DBJ (unfortunately),Sam Gray, Toumpas, R Gray(fitness)

A selection statement needs to be made that it is a f###g privilege to play senior football and some players should go back and reassess the attitude. Also there are a few players who are ON NOTICE.
