Seeing Darcy struggle last night had me wondering about Nick Daicos.

There's some pressure that comes with being the Great White Hope Of Victorian Football.

Do we hard tag? Try to take down their No 1 weapon? Is this something we held back in Round 21?

He’s poor defensively, so one way to do it is to put an offensive weapon on him at stoppage

Brisbane gave everyone the blueprint a few weeks ago (starts at 3.28)

Put extra numbers around stoppage and swarm him like they did. They only did it in the second half. 40% of their scoring goes through him. They kicked seven goals in the first half that night, only three in the second.

I'm not sure a hard tag would be as effective, although with the way we play maybe it would be.

Shut him down and they can't score.

In - Butts, Max, Pedlar
Out - Murray, Bond, Draper

Bond has shown he can be a good stopper, but he’s not in our best defensive lineup at this stage. He’s an obvious swap for Max.

I think Butts has been better than Murray this year. Murray’s form does not demand selection.

With Rankine/Rachele out we need goal kickers. Pedlar is the best option we have.

Yeah.

Had a run of 3 games and then got injured and subbed out of his 4th game in a row.

He then came back into the side for Rd 19,20 and was dropped for round 21 before getting a recall for rd 22 and getting inujured again.

Just hasn't managed to get any continuity in his game apart from 2023. Contracted through 2026 - I wouldn't be giving him another contract unless he can play 15+ AFL games in 2026.
It's a risk you'd have to take I think for such an important game. Apart from Rachelle who won't be ready he's the best option we have for a small forward type up there. He had an impact kicking 3 goals recently if I recall let's hope he can do something similar against Collingwood.

Imagine for a second that Collingwood baited the Crows last week with Josh Daicos not getting much of the pill because of the supposed smother job done by Murphy. Smells like another Massie on Franklin brain fart to me. Underestimate these slippery bastards, and it'll cost us dearly!
They've already sucked Rankine off the team sheet.

Beat the Crows and they waltz into pole position with a Home Prelim & Grand final...
We can't wake up at qtr time thinking we've wasted the opportunity because we got ahead of ourselves. We simply need to be on the edge from the first bounce.

In truth I am probably a little harsher than many. I saw what he was capable of at GWS. Then I saw his price tag.

He is best 22 here. Yes he uses the ball pretty nicely.

But the fact remains he has coaches votes in 1 of his 22 games. He averages under 15 disposals. He would be about 16th - 20th in our B&F this year,

Maybe I am just fighting against the sentiment. For me - Jones was better for us in 23 (and I dont rate Jones). Mackay better than Cumming - Yet Mackay and Jones were blasted on here, whilst Cumming is defended.

He is the shiny new toy.

It’s just you and me buddy, but you’re in good company.

It just depends how much we are grading him against his presumed salary. I think Cumming has been fine - he punches a bit above his weight in terms of his statistical output because he's good defensively and in the air and has good skills with the ball. He's capable of plays that others aren't and is composed under pressure. His goal against Collingwood for example was something that a lot of players wouldn't have executed cleanly. He's also had patches in games this year where he was dominant, though he fades out of games a lot. I'd have him ahead of Jones for sure - plus the version of Jones we are comparing him to doesn't exist anymore, so you may as well compare Berry to 2017 Matt Crouch.

But he's not some superstar whose place is unassailable. It's an area we could improve on, just not in the squad we have right now.

Gotta feel for Butts. Absolute Beast in defence, never losing a contest, then gets hit in the chest behind play causing a freak accident. He’s recovered by can’t get a look back in.

Coaches have made their choice with inaction and just letting the incumbent stay in. They won’t be changing it now unless injury.

IF Rash doesn’t get up, what do we prefer?

Out: Draper, Bond
In: Max, Pedlar

Or

Out: Draper
In: Max

The latter would see Max do a cooling job on whichever Daicos gets hot, while the former would be more towards our usual setup
2nd option, I don’t think Pedlar is any chance tbh. Nicks seemed very open to MM playing a more attacking role when Rowey asked about this last night; also highlighted how happy he’s been with Bond.

Thats better than the only other option....
It felt like the option was definitely left open for MM to play on Josh Daicos, like his role on Vlaustin. Obviously still got a bit to go until the game, but it felt a lot more yes than no about Max playing an attacking role.

Its actually a really good call because it would hold Josh Daicos completely accountable for a player that can match his running, especially coming back into our 50

Thank you. Some Adelaide fans have lost the plot. May the best team on the day win. If that is Adelaide so be it you will have deserved it. But some of the threats on this board are beyond the pale.
Not that Collingwood will have to worry about high bumps on Grand Final day.

Bond did a reasonable job on Elliot last time, if we go with him and Max up forward on Daicos, if Elliot runs amok early, no reason we couldn’t make a switch and Bond plays a defensive role on Daicos.

Out Draper
In Max

Don’t reckon we’d want to bring in 2 underdone players, Pedlar to play SANFL

that's literally all it's going to be barring any injuries next week, huge body of evidence this year shows we go in with minimal changes wherever possible

at the same time only came in for Murray because Murray hurt his knee.

if Butts doesn't play finals, I think other clubs will come knocking and he will explore his options. Would be a big loss for our KPD depth.
Until now we've had the good timing to always have one of Butts and N Murray out injured. We've probably been telling both of them that they're first choice, with no selection headache to expose our lie.

How long will they both buy it?
