Who’s playing on Cameron in your side Mike?

Cordy struggled last week, Cameron is a bigger and stronger player. With Cordy and Young there is the very likelihood of our backline being exposed. I’d have to have Trengove down there as a strong body to play on Cameron. Not many other options

Did Lewis Young's game against Harry Himmelberg somehow lead you to believe he will be conceding marks to inferior opponents this week? Confounded and disappointed by this post.

The reason Bevo is such a brilliant coach is that he is willing to put faith in the young blokes when they have shown in some way that they deserve his trust. The stakes of this game would cause those with a bit less fortitude to make the "safe" option while Bevo just does whatever will give us the best chance to win.

I'm admittedly a bit of a Bevo-sympathizer and love his coaching style more than many on here though. Something he has always talked about is having a healthy appetite for risk which I love. The "safe" option is often not the correct one but most prefer to err on the side of caution.

If you think this is a big gamble then remember back to 2016 when we played a bloke who had 7 games under his belt in a GF.

Pretty big assumption there and you’ve missed the mark I’m afraid. I’ve no issue with Young’s selection. He was great last week.

As to your Bev argument, we’ve also lost games with curious selection the last couple years imo. I love Bev, but sometimes the obvious choice is the best one. But what do I know. As I said, I’m just a nuffy.

It’s a strange one to have Trengove most of the year in the key defensive post and to be fair he has done a good job. To switch him for Young at this stage is interesting. On form Cordy was the tall to miss. Having said that Young can do a job especially if our on ballers get on top

He's still had some big games this year, and is a powerful unit with plenty of experience.

As good as Young was last weekend, who was his opponent? For most of the game he was zoning off Lachie Keeffe, who's a snail. He wasn't playing on Cameron or Finlayson, by far GWS's best tall forwards, who weren't playing. Even in the first quarter, he was beaten twice by Keeffe in the strength battle.

Again, still a great performance, but Adelaide's forward line should be a much tougher challenge, and it's disappointing not at least having the option of Trengove. I know many people like how Beveridge is giving youngsters a chance, but Rhylee West? Giving him his second game in a do-or-die clash? As opposed to a battle hardened Trengove off the back of a strong performance? Personally, I don't agree with the decision.

Agree, he has kicked 38 goals in 20 games this year. We need a plan to combat him. I take it that the selection of Young is part of that plan.

I don't really care. Any opportunity I get to rant about Bevo's genius I'll take, even if it's not even what you were talking about. My post was more about my feelings towards our selection than a genuine response to your post.

I feel the same way about Jason Watts’ 1996 season.

Why can’t we just trust the Bevo knows what he is doing?
Because history shows he isn't always correct?

He certainly wasn't correct playing Dunkley in the forward line at the start of the season, or the first half of 2018.
He wasn't correct to keep Trengove out of the side for the first 5 rounds this year.

I think his time as coach shows that he has made far more right decisions that wrong.

Im admittedly a bit of a bevo fanboy as well. He isnt immune from criticism. Nobody is.
But I cant think of anyone , perhaps with the exception of Clarkson, that Id rather have as our coach.
In my mind he is a good match day tactician. A good developer of talent. Not afraid to ask young blokes to spend time in the twos to hone their craft. And he uses his extremely proficient man managing skills to impart this as a positive to young players when it can easily be taken the other way. Not an easy thing to do.
A lot of strings to his bow has our bevo. imo.

Not at all. But we are not sitting at the match committee table with all the information they have. If they think Young is a better selection ahead of Trengove then I am behind them.
For what it's worth, I'm questioning the Rhylee West selection, not Young or Cordy.

But clearly there was an issue about team balance. Young has taken Trengove’s spot because English is back.
Wasn't much of an issue last week. No Dickson for the second, third & fourth quarters didn't stop us from reaching our second highest score for the year. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Trengove played in the ruck last week. We are keeping the same structure as last week. Just slightly different personnel.

Que? Two out and two in like for like.
Except one of the ins is a kid in his second game, and his previous game was a quiet one against Fremantle. I don't think it's a good decision to omit a good, experienced player who played well last week for a kid in a clutch match.

West isn’t coming in for Trengove though, that’s the point. English is.
I would have kept Trengove in as well but it would have needed to be at the expense of Young or Cordy, unless you don’t bring English back.

Good changes. Was worried Bevo was going to drop Young which would have been criminal after his performance last week.

Would have preferred Cordy being dropped instead of Trengove though, but for some reason Bevo loves him just like his obsession with playing Ayce back in 2015. Maybe the Cordy family have got some photos of Bevo which he doesn't want to see the light of day.

Selections aren't rigidly linked between two players. I'm arguing we would've had a better chance of winning if we kept Trengove in the team and West in the reserves.
