Not thrilled with Eddy being left out. Of all the tall forwards he's the only one who knows how to play like a league forward.

I guess they were looking for extra run and pace on Adelaide Oval. Looking at the line up that's a lot of talls in the forward line so I get the logic.

I have to admit I'm not completely won over by Impey yet. Has some good highlight reel moments but I would like to see him have a consistently good game as either as a high half half forward or across the midfield.
I'm not completely won over by him either. He has some great moments, but he has a propensity to drop his head or disappear from matches a little too easily. The whole squad seemed so mentally tough last weekend (and physically, of course) - it's that, above all else, that I want to hang on to. I see Jarman as having the potential to weaken that a little.

Eddy was WOG with three touches last week, he's currently our fourth tall forward, and he's being replaced by a very talented young player who was a walk-up start in our 22 in the second half of last year and who we might need in the side to combat the Hill brothers and Pearce, Stephen Hill especially. I would've liked to have seen Eddy get another shot too, but it's hardly dropping Butcher for Kane Mitchell. No melts here.
With 10 injuriies and suspensions most weeks in the 2nd half of last year it wasn't hard to be a walk up start into the best available 22 for fringe players.

Impey is worth persevering with he's just over the 50 game mark it's an important time for him no doubt but he has the talent, we need an injection of pace in this side you are blind if you don't see that.
We will be coming up against Adelaide, GWS etc. in the coming weeks not Sydney on a slippery deck every week.

I have no issue whatsoever with bringing in Impey. You guys are too hard on him, he's still fairly young, but he adds speed and a touch of class and some good defensive pressure in the forward line (switching him up there after giving him time to work on his defensive side down back was a stroke of genius).

But I have a huge issue with dropping Eddy for it. He was brought in to help with structure - god knows we need it, and while he didn't have a good first game, he was playing in conditions not suited to him. What does dropping him achieve? ****ing nothing. I'm sick of watching the same players run around doing the same shit. Drop the Hoff or something if we're too tall. Not the new kid. This could be another forward we've ****ing botched.

I could probably count my emails to the club on one hand, but I sent the following rant. I see Eddy being dropped for Impey as Ken reverting to type. Pathetic.

Brett Eddy has been dropped !!!!!!!!! Crazy

- Westhoff, who doesn't make himself available to the ball carrier, just runs around, pain, maybe drop him
- Jarman - can't kick!, lacks poise, much shorter than Brett Eddy. Was this just to make him feel better. He needed to earn his way back via the seconds!
- Charlie can't catch
- Jackson not a natural forward
- Ken lacking balls again, being far too defensive minded. Or playing his favourites, again!

I wonder how the rest of the players feel about that. Guy gives up his job to live his dream, not used by other players and when he is the ball goes over his head! He's more than a decoy - he's smart and at least he can catch and kick.

No, I don't know him.

Pxxxxx off by this refusal to get the forward entry and structure right. Drop the ball on the forward's head and play chaos ball, still. How about some easy entries and goals via a natural leader.

Almost as bad as Koshy and the scarf!

Are you actually hoping someone at the club reads this shit? Or are you just venting your hate for PAFC on our board?

This is why Eddy being dropped this week is a completely different scenario and argument to Butcher being dropped in previous years.

I agreed with you up until this Can't see it tbh,

He is depth now.

There is no depth at Port Adelaide. Only those with gold passes and those without.

Would not surprise me at all if he came in next week.

Hmmmm, not sure how I feel about the Impey/Eddy move. Perhaps they want Jars in to do a role on one of their rebounding defenders.

Don't mind Impey coming in but I think Sam Gray should consider himself lucky. Will need a big game to stay in the team next week and to get much better with his disposal efficiency. If you are swapping like for like Eddy should have stayed and S Gray gone. Perhaps the plan all along was to go in smaller against Freo, and this is why Eddy was dropped.

His very best is better than just a depth player imo but we need to see it more often, the way Ken and Bass talk about Krak was more what I was getting at with that comment they like what he brings to the table regardless of what we think.

Like I say - a rare email, and in my opinion justified, not petty, because I'm seeing the same old same old, a return to too much defense.

Will they read it? Probably nothing but the first line. Maybe someone will take it on board.

Hate for PAFC, after attending almost every game since 1997? For the life of me I can't see how you read that into it, not after putting up with so much rubbish from super-defensive Kenny over the last two years.

Krak is depth now. I reckon he fits more as a small defender now because we got Monfries, Neade and Johnson as depth up forward.

While down back we have Bonner and Hewett with Toumpas and Irra being thrown back to fill the hole for the Maggies.

Maybe memories of the ball getting out the back a couple of years back.

Lol welcome back befuddling selection committee of 15/16. I look forward to Dixon getting tripled team, us bombing it inside 50 and the forward line having no structure. Carn, did we learn nothing from last year when we lost Schultz and attempted to play only 1 recognised forward. What has suddenly changed now that we think we can go back to same structure that his killed us over the last 2 years?

Why did need to change from a system that worked though?

Trengove is likely to go back when Sandilands plays up there because our defenders are shorter. Westhoff's best role is floating on the wing. Both will help out in the ruck.

I'm not worried about when the ball is locked in, I'm worried about freeing up marking targets when we're moving the ball.

It'd be nice to have Wingard and Gray play more in the midfield but Gray did nothing last week after his head knock and our midfield worked really well. So theoretically we'll already have what we had last week plus 3/4 of Robbie.

We're solving problems that simply didn't exist against Sydney.

Sydney isn't Fremantle, and the Adelaide Oval isn't the SCG. We picked a side that would combat a team that was short on running players and was obviously geared around winning contested ball on a wet day.

It's not about solving problems that didn't exist, it's about working to our strengths. How many marks did we take against Sydney? 77 in total. How many did Eddy take? 1. And you think he's the panacea for freeing up marking targets? Trengove had 3 and Dixon had 2 - and out of 77 marks, the following happened inside 50 for our talls - 1 to Dixon (the other was a free kick), 1 to Trengove, 1 to Ryder.

Bringing in a running small stretches the ground, exposes Fremantle for speed, and provides more link up play. Eddy will come back into the side when we need to make a defensive line that likes to run off accountable (like the Dogs).
