I thought he was pretty good defensively last night, and I've been critical of him of late too. Thought he was solid, saw him win quite few contests, get to the right spots to keep players accountable. Maybe I missed some terrible clangers kicks, missed tackles...?

If you have any examples other than 'poor form' that I missed, go for it. That'd make calls to drop him sound less mystical, and would be more productive than a lecture on what 'form' means in any case. :)
I saw him bump or block an opposition player 4 or 5 times at just the right moment that enabled one of our other guys to get the ball in the backline.
Don't really think he did too much wrong.

There are certainly arguments to make a number of changes, and there is no real argument that some players are either out of form or not playing at their 2018 level.

Down back -
Schofield. Is definitely looking a year older and slower. In 2018 he strength was in the one-on-one contest. Rarely beaten. This year he is arriving at the contest a 1/2 second late and is therefore arriving either too late to impact or arriving unbalanced and therefore not able to halve the contest. I've also noticed that in a static contest his body on body stuff hasn't been as good. Regardless of whether he is or isn't worth a spot at the moment, if we are honest, he is at the end of his career and isn't a long term, future player. This is the main reason I'd rather see Rotham get a game. I'd rather turn up in September with Rotham available having played 10 games than having played two. Either way, when Barass is back (other injuries aside) neither play atm.

Cole - Let's be honest. He is out of form. As someone pointed out, he can be a 10 possession good game or 10 possession bad game player with his role. At the moment he isn't impacting the game as he did in 2018.

Jetta - When he has the ball he is absolute gold with his delivery. And the use of the new kick in rule, superb. The problem at the moment is that he just doesn't seem to be working hard enough. Looks like 2016 Jetta rather than 2018 Jetta. And I want to see 2018 Jetta.

Gov - On the surface is having an ordinary season. By his standards. Which is a good season for mere mortals. His intercept marking is way down and his visible impact also. BUT... what is obvious is that opposition teams have been working hard on tactics to avoid, bypass or nullify the Gov. You could see St Kilda look down the line or to the space, and if Gov was there, go somewhere else. Port used the lead short of Gov and then go over his head tactic. Either way, just being there is changing the game dynamic and having an impact. And that's something that can be said about very few players.

Hurn and Sheppard. Both currently as good or better than 2018.

So down back there is a case for one change, either Cole or Schofield for Rotham. It's a shame Watson got injured as he was looking good and could be considered the future Jetta replacement. Fast, skilful and loves to tackle.

And that's just the backs!

Darling, Kennedy, Allen plus Hickey and Vardy is a rubbish setup and I’m not sure you’d want it against a side that is as slow as Melbourne.

We need two rucks this week which is why Allen should make way for Hickey. Irrespective of what happens with Rioli.

All for Allen having a rest.

Out Allen, Waterman
In Hickey, Rioli.

Or

Out Vardy, Waterman
In Hickey, Rioli.

Whichever way it goes Nic Nat is removing Allen or Vardy.

Waterman was an outlet who pushed up the ground.

As opposed to Allen who jumped for the same marks Kennedy and Darling

A player presenting up the ground for uncontested marks is so much more valuable than a player getting them wide or negative of the stoppage or behind a zone.

We’ve struggled to peg our way through zones because too few do it effectively.

Waterman is coming back from one game in three weeks as well.

You can’t play Naitanui and Hickey long term. Maybe to start but neither are strong targets resting forward.

Vardy is absolutely the right guy to take the second ruck role once Naitanui is fit enough to take a larger share of the ruck.

Allen falls out of the best 22. He’s not a third tall and not a backup ruck.

Then why did we bring in Brooksby as well?
I think that says there is a big chance for Hickey/Nic Nat combo.

Nic Nat will be more a fwd this season.

I may be laughed out of the thread, and fair play if I am. But I wonder if it's time for Nelson for Cole.

Frankie would be worth a look but I think he's injured.

Cole hasn't looked right and I think Nelson would know he's close to last chance saloon. Maybe worth it for the spark he could potentially bring. I recognize that's a bit of an edgy call so have at it.

I was a big Nelson believer two years ago but the light slowly faded in that regard. However, Nelson is in great WAFL form and Cole is off the boil.

All the time in the world for Cole but I think there’s some merit to the idea.

Or he can come in for Waterman and offer more in the fwd line and better our structure.
I have been reluctant up until now but you just bang on and on about your pet likes and dislikes. There are some decent parts to your post but your utter bias is so annoying that it works against you. How about opening your mind to others and then you might gain some credibility.

Granted Schofield may have hurt himself but it'd be nice to see him provide a run every now and then to keep the forward he's playing on (usually the oppositions best forward) accountable and at least thinking about his opponent, not just running around doing what he wants.

Is it time to bring in the niggler?

Security and depth.

Allen won’t last long pinch hitting. Was an experiment that came about later even if they prepared a little for it.

Naitanui did an ACL and his solid recovery to date was no sure thing.

Vardy has a history of soft tissue injuries.

Don't mind it, but I was so impressed by Rotham when he came in he had to be s the front of the que.
