Not too much wrong with today that can be fixed immediately, for me.

Out: Dunn, McDonald, Bail

In: Sylvia, Fitzpatrick, Grimes

Pending Clark's fitness, Martin in.

Strauss is still injured HFF and, even if it does get up, he is still nowhere near coming back to the AFL. Needs more time at Casey.

In: Sylvia, Petterd, Grimes
Out: Dunn, McDonald, Bail

Thought that was the case.

In: Sylvia, Petterd, Grimes, Martin

Out: T.Mcdonald, Joel Macdonald, Sellar and Dunn

We have too many tall defenders. McDonald and MacDonald were horrendous in disposal. I don't know why Neeld isn't playing Martin in the ruck more?? Didn't he watch last year. Petterd shouldn't of been dropped in the first place.

Agree with everything :thumbsu:

I think we should also consider the possibility of Clark not playing pending scans and how he pulls up but yeah I agree with 'pizzor' otherwise.

Tom McDonald has tried hard so I don't want to be too hard on him but he's due for a little Casey time I think - if anything I think he is trying to play too much like Frawley and over doing it rather than playing to his strengths.

McDonald has played the last 3 games and I think that gives him a good taste of senior footy and he can head back to Casey and continue to build some momentum. I think the kid has a future but our backline is strong in the height department so places aren't going to come easy. With Grimes back next week and both Tappy and Strauss waiting in the wings he will find it hard.

In: Sylvia, Petterd, Martin, Grimes.
Out: McDonald, Sellar, Dunn, MacDonald.

Im keen to give Couch a shot too but that's enough changes for this week. Mortons 4th quarter effort saved his bacon.

In: Petterd, Grimes, Sylvia

Out: Dunn, McDonald, McKenzie

McKenzie very stiff, but we need more of a balance in the midfield.

I might add there's no point arguing about this with me; one of Jordie, Magner, Jones or Moloney HAS to go.

No other team has such a one-dimensional midfield.

I would stay with the same. Maybe we need some stability rather than make changes every week.

So you want to see Dunn being first man in every contest but coming second to the ball, but still sniping his man behind the play to look like a 'tough bloke'?

I like Tom McDonald, tries very hard, deserves his spot in the side, effort not in question, can hold his own physically pretty well for a young lad. Will make some mistakes he's so green, but I'm happy to wear those now rather than when we're actually winning games and trying to push up the ladder. Keep him in the side, he's learning heaps.

What I liked about Freo's effort v the Saints was Ross Lyon put a LOT of thought into stopping St Kilda's most dangerous players - ie Sam Fisher, Goddard and Dal Santo.

Which means I think we give Dunn a role playing as a defensive forward on Fisher. I don't care if Dunn doesn't get a kick - as long as Fisher isn't allowed to roam all over the ground and take third man up marks in our forwardline, that'd be a win. So for me, Dunn stays, at least for this week.

Curbing Goddard and Dal Santo is another issue entirely!

As for changes - Joel Mac has to go. Even if Grimes isn't ready, Joel can't be given another chance. He kills us every time with simple mistakes.

We're also too top heavy, so Sellar can get the chop. Assuming Mitch is fit, he can fill in 15% in the ruck when needed.

I'd also like to see Petterd in, maybe for Tapscott.

So, after all that -

OUT: Joel Mac, Sellar, Tapscott

IN: Sylvia, Grimes, Petterd

In: Slyvia (thank god)
Grimes
Fitzpatrick

Out: McDonald (cost us badly yesterday, fumbled at crucial times which cost goals nd were to tall down back anyway)
Macdonald (Grimes replaces him)
Sellar (just offers nothing, much rather give Fitz a crack cos he's playing well nd has some idea about playing forward unlike Martin)

Bartram seriously lucky because he was terrible defensively, but who else can play on Milne?
Petterd should probably come in as well but not sure who for, mayb Dunn but he is obviously there to do a job nd fisher is a massive job

Agree, however Dunn did keep R.Murphy to little disposals in the second half which may sadly save his arse.

Just watched the "coaches office" video on mfc website and Neeld said Sylvia will play in the VFL this week along with Jurrah. He also said if all goes well they will both be available to play against the Cats. Great news for Liam, love to see him out there again.

Even though his time with the club is probably coming to an end Dunn did an excellent job on Murphy in the second half. He was tearing us a new in the first half and had little influence when Dunn was shifted on to him. Neeld singled him out for some praise so I dare say he will keep his spot.

Line-up and Matchups.

In: Sylvia, Grimes, Petterd
Out: Dunn, McDonald, McKenzie

FB: Bartram Garland Frawley
B: Grimes Rivers Tapscott
C: Morton Moloney Sylvia
F: Howe Watts Bail
FF: Davey Clark Sellar
R: Jamar Jones Trengove
Int: Bate Petterd Magner
S: Macdonald

Match-ups.

Garland: to Riewoldt; he has the athleticism to match him and is a good shut down defender

Frawley: to Milne; probably their most dangerous forward in terms of creating something out of nothing, but also the least defensively accountable

Rivers: to Koschitzke; Kosi's been in solid form... but Rivers has been better, this is the kind of player he can absolutely smash - not particularly athletic and needs a run at the ball to be a marking threat.

Morton: to Montagna; use his height to advantage and hurt the other way... a good experience for him to play on a man who used to be just about the premier outside midfielder in the comp

Bate: to Dal Santo; Bate isn't particularly good by foot... or hand.. or particularly agile - BUT he can run all day and has good strength and speed in a straight line (and can thump the ball). Chuck him on Dal Santo early; if he's playing in the midfield he may as well do something constructive.

Watts: to Goddard; would be a good learning experience.

Petterd: to Fisher; ala his performance on Johncock last year.

I've seen a fair few mentions of McKenzie now and whilst I'm not too worried about his form I must admit he looks like he is starting to feel it out there.

If anything perhaps an old fashioned rest would do him good, he's been matching up on some bigger bodies and it is easy to forget that many of our smaller mids are still developing.

Similar to Tom McDonald, he's trying but the rigours of AFL footy are catching up with him. Timely break.

Some interesting matchups.

I like the Frawley to Milne match-up. Ross Lyon played a bigger opponent on Milne on friday nite cause he is a good mark for his size and hates being pushed around by bigger opponents. Has the speed to go with Milne.

Sellar to push back with Stanley? since Kozi is suspended.

Garland to Riewoldt.

Morton to Goddard.

Like Petterd to Fisher.

Think NJones hard tag on Dal Santo would be good.

i think we could do okay with the key match ups, only problem is winning the pill.
