Preview Changes vs Swans

The ones ticking all the boxes are the ones losing us games. Not to say that Lyons is the answer to all our ills, but maybe our boxes are wrong?

This is so true and obvious; I don't know why more people can't see it.

When Tex and JJ are back firing I beleive LJ will tear it up as the 3rd tall, unfortunately he is not a KPF, never will be but as the 3rd tall would be very dangerous.

I am more confidant about this game as the last two, they went as expected. This week I expect we will win.

Which is why we should be playing him right now; get some games/experience into him for when Tex is back.

It's a good news story, much like when news of our Sanderson re-signing was released right around the time of our dire financial report. Or just this week when Brodie Smith's re-signing was mentioned hot on the heels of a drubbing by Port. It's a political trick, reeks of Chapman.
I wonder what we've got up the sleeve if Sydney win? Tex to return next week?

If we have a real stinker year it could be our most positive season ever in terms of good news.

In fairness, it's probably a good move by the club. Disgruntled fans generally want to hear some good news. I am happy that Smith resigned, and now was a good a time as any to announcement, but I do agree that the club used this time specifically.

The cynical side of me agrees completely. They wheel the good news stories the second they start looking incompetent. I can see through their bullshit.

If it pans out that way I'm hoping John Reid's " best list ever" may finally get a review

what's more important, the ability to "lock the ball inside our forward 50" - Sando, or actually kicking goal every now and then?

we barely gave Port a touch for half a quarter and got a magnificent 3 goals for all that effort... shame they were able to kick 5 in 10 minutes with that open forward line of theirs, is that some crazy new idea in footy?

Yep - bolded. Why can't we approach the science of goal scoring from an attacking creative perspective rather than this possession/effort consuming result of 'defending the ball/zone inside the F50' ??? I'm taking it that Sando as senior coach has the end say at the selection table, and if so I just fail to see any steady overall rationale to the selection history/results. And what I almost always see historically in 4ht quarter fade-outs (fitness aside) is players psych response to doubts in the game-plan. I hope its not that because our possession cost/effort per goal is palpably inefficient.

Shaw - Critical match-ups aside, if he has a place in defence then give the guy a few weeks to grow.
Petrenko - is his inclusion to 'lock-in the F50' meant to, (a)stop the Port type rebound streaming run out of defence, or, (b)to hold the ball inside for minutes on end thus enabling our random forward work to scramble a score? He does not trouble the scorers, that is left to the other 5 forwards.o_O
Lyons - Needs more defensive side but it's plain he is not liked by Sando. Give him a decent run!
Pods - Just looks all wrong. Form, REAL effort, and low skill level. Sando needs to be really big and tough here.

The return of Tex is going to be massive after this long out, it will be hit all the talk shows and media outlets for the AFL.

I wonder if Petrenko is going to run through the midfield tomorrow. He has spent a fair bit of each game there in the 2nds trials.

You know we are in trouble when we are relying on Petrenko in the midfield.:rolleyes:

Like half of our side.

Average depth player/plodders tend to be 200 game player for us; we'll just have to try him in every position on the field until we find one he's not mediocre at.

200 game players for AFC
smart
bickley
ricciuto
hart
mcleod
edwards
goodwin
bassett
doughty
johncock
rutten
thompson

I can only count 1 who might be considered 'plodder'. Reilly and vB are just about there though, so i'll pay those ;)

You don't think washing the coaches car should be part of the selection criteria?

How long is it since Jenkins kicked a goal in the ressies trial games? Actually between him and pods in their last couple games how many have they kicked all up? Pods has one. Jenkins?

Hope Eddie has had his weetbix

How many weet bix does he do ;)

Really could see Jenkins playing FB after Ruttens requirement ......still not sure on Hartigan, don't like his lack of balance (core strength) and fact he goes to ground too easily ...that said that's all correctable

Not sure he's calm enough to be a backman. Has outstanding physical attributes for the role though

Could be right ....but the club seems to have been trialling Jenkins in the backline a bit this PS

Jenkins has played back and in ruck as well as forward in the ressies trials. He played okay against South and I'd expect him to step up on Saturday.
I was sure Harper said during the week Jenkins impressed up forward last week.

Don't like his lack of core strength.... You also must not be a fan of Otten who is one of our worse offenders

IMO Hartigan core strength is fine and his going to ground is more of a poor decision issue that can be coached out if his game

Give more than zero defensively. Leaves his opponent off the chain all the time. Tough love for the young man at the minute.
You're joking right? He played two defensive roles last year on Bartel and also Lewis for Hawthorn. Clearly you have no idea what defense actually is.

Swans only won two of their last seven in season 2013 and have followed that form with losing their first two in 2014

Winning 2 of their last 9 is not a good trend
