Why do people want Mackay back in? He was close to our shittest player before getting injured. Lets keep him in the SANFL for another 2 weeks to get some bloody form into him (I wish) Johncock simply needs to come in if Sando is serious about rewarding SANFL form. Absolutely dominant and wasted in the SANFL IMO. He is still playing some fantastic footy.

IN: Johncock, Lyons, Mackay, Brown
OUT: Petrenko, Callinan, Porplyzia, Kerridge

Why do people want Mackay back in?

Why do you want to drop Kerridge?

There's a trend on this forum and it goes like this: Play well, you're in next week. Play bad, you're out next week. Some of you clowns remind me of the guy at the roulette wheel who thinks red is going to come up because it came up the last three spins.

Selection is not as straightforward as just picking on form.

And while I'm not against Stiffy being in the side, what he's done in the SANFL interests me about as much what Allefgib and his missus do after the kids have gone to bed.

I don't want Kerridge dropped. Just giving my prediction on the changes.

And I'm still young.

Out- Kerridge, Crouch, Petrenko

In - Johncock, Tambling, Mackay

Our seasons on the line this Saturday, we need an experienced line-up (can we seek permission to re-activate Dogga?).

The fact is that our season bit the dust well before last Saturday. Richmond will run our ageing "stars" off their feet. It could get very ugly on Saturday.

Do people really think the kids are the problem?

Last year, Danger, Walker, Jacobs, Wright, Sloane, Talia and Smith played out of their skins and carried the side.

This year, they're all down, and we're suffering for it.

We bring Kerridge in, and he performs. We bring Lyons in, and he's already one of our best dozen players.

But what about Porps, VB, Mackay, Vince, Reilly and Johncock?

All of our senior players, except Truck (Thommo is 50:50), are having crap years. Vince is going ok, but he's better than that - he's cruising at present.

The kids aren't the problem, it's the lack of quality in the prime age bracket that's killing us.

Exactly, why has nearly every player gone backwards this year in their performance ?

Apart from Douglas who has improved, Sloane, Rutten & Talia doing a good job & the rookies that are now getting a game, everyone else have not performed to expectations.
Is it the change in gameplan, playing players in different positions (out of position), poor selections, off season issues.
Nothing seems to be gelling together this year.
I was really hoping Jacobs & Wright were going to take their games to the next level this year & they have been really disappointing.

We all want the kids in the team. But we expect them to have the consistency of a 3 time All Australian.

Exactly right. You can't have it both ways. It's the same people demanding both too.

The reality is (thanks Rucci, you've got me using this line even though I can't stand it) that there's no hard and fast rule on kids or grandpas. You put faith in some kids, and not in others. You put faith in some grandpas, and not in others.

You have to keep your eye on the strategic plan of the club though. As a club, we've rarely had a stategic plan that allows us to miss the eight and focus entirely on a rebuild with the whole club - coach included - buying in, like Collingwood in 2004 and 2005.

This is an extremely tough call for a footy club, and it's an even tougher thing to get by the Board.

The Collingwood scenario was off the back of two Grand Final appearances and an experienced coach with runs on the board whose reputation could absorb the hit of two developing years.

There's a lot to consider.

Now give us your real ins and outs.

This won't happen but what I would like to see is;

Out - Petrenko, Callinan, Porplyzia, Henderson

In - Brown, Lyons, Wright and Riley

I know it's tough on Nutta but we won't win the flag this year ( and pretty unlikely in 2014) so we need to get the younger players up to 50 games or flick them.

I would like to see both Porps and DMac have 2 weeks in the SANFL and then press for selection against Gold Coast. Hendo is a tough one but I would prefer to bring in Aidan Riley as our defensive forward with an occasional run in the midfield.

If we go with this selection policy for the rest of the year, are you happy to finish in the bottom six?

Are you also happy to give Porps the golden handshake?

Those aren't loaded questions either. If the answer is yes to both, I can see a lot of merit in the policy.

But you can't come on this board irate when we lose by 150 points combined to Geelong and Collingwood.

What about Bernard...... Off half back I mean.
Would like to see this in theory, however Vince's accountability is a bit worrying. Also not sure he'd be great in a one on one situation playing as a defender.

Not saying we should drop Kerridge/Crouch but I do find it somewhat amusing some posters here saying they should stay in because they are our future/young etc.

Are these the same posters that slam the AFC 'gold pass' strategy? Because to me, gifting games simply due to age rather than form is the exact same thing.

Play your best team every week or play for specific reasons, but you can't have it both ways.

Not the same thing at all.
Kids need experience to get better.
Old guys arent going to get better from just playing games.

Therefore you can afford to 'gift' some young guys games in an attempt to make them into players who can earn their spot.

Sando pretty much eluded to Porps playing, he is a liability at the moment and needs a month in the magoos to recapture some form. Worth the risk with Riley we need another hard nut that can tackle and physically hurt an opponent, his skills aren't great but in a Petrenko role he should do alright

Maybe it's the specific job Bernie needs to keep his concentration levels.

I could see Malcolm playing Bernie off half back.

Having said that, I could also see Malcolm making him the sub and not using him even if we're getting pumped, just to send him a message....

OUT: Petrenko, Callinan, Kerridge, McKernan? (Due to the weather being forcast as a wet one on Saturday, maybe a structural change?)

Porplyzia start as sub

If its wet please please please give Porps a full game.
He is one of our only players who thrives in those conditions, even if his form this year has been sub-par. Play him as a 3rd forward and if he's not getting any of it rotate him in the midfield.

Why should we fall to the bottom six by replacing struggling players in their late 20's/early 30's with young players (NOT KIDS). Siggins and Atkins are KIDS and to a lesser extent Grigg and Joyce. Lyons is in his third season of senior football, Tom Lynch is almost eligible for pro-rata long service leave, Wright and Riley may be closer to the end of their career than the start.

Nevertheless I would prefer to see us finish 12th and get games into the younger brigade than finish 8th and get thumped in the first week of September.

We have a core of 5 players who were either All Australians last year of not far off (Dangerfield, Sloane, Jacobs, Thompson, Reilly) and Patty and Rory are both in the top ten in the AFL Coaches Award this year. We only have one key player out with injury (god bless the TEX), Collingwood have more reasons to drop to 12th than the Crows.

I would be happy with the policy and would not complain at the odd heavy loss. What I object to is losses like last week when we have our known hacks playing

Has Wright actually done anything to deserve his spot back?

He played one game with North Adelaide and played very well. My suggestion of swapping Wright for Henderson is related to match ups against Richmond (which I didn't explain). I would not be disturbed if Hendo stayed in and Wright had another 2 weeks in the SANFL.
