Player Watch Charlie Dixon Part 2

That’s why I have Charlie at least Jay Schulz,s equal because of the pressure he brings to the opposition, if there’s a loose ground ball in his area Charlie gets it , there’s no one that gets in his way

There is a two and a half page spread on Charlie Dixon in today’s SAWEEKEND. Somebody make link?

Gives an idea of the mental challenges of having an injury.

Charlie Dixon's problems with his eyesight are somewhat back in the news.

His performance saw Melbourne great Garry Lyon querying his form - and his eyesight.

“I’m questioning his eyes,” he said on Fox Footy at halftime.

“I seriously watched him run under balls, not clunk them in the end. Now I’m sure his eyes are OK. He’s obviously out of nick.”

Since he’s come to us, Charlie hasn’t really nailed two good consecutive seasons. He’s never going to be a reliable key forward, who marks everything he should and converts most of his chances. We need Marshall to stand up is what we need. Stop getting injured and start stepping out from the shadows. Georgiades will continue to develop and ultimately will surpass Marshall. But if we are to be successful this year, Marshall needs to give Dixon a major chop out. In the meantime, yes, Dixon needs glue on his hands and something to fix his eyes.
He was competitive last night. The week before he was a bystander. Ladhams’ woeful uncompetitiveness hasn’t helped him at all.

Ladhams carried in his poor form last night, with him and Dixon that’s two players who aren’t contributing much.

Georgiadis is super, the guy runs all night and seemed to move around a lot.

Marshall will help.

Do we drop one of Dixon or Ladhams?

Ladhams. Hayes is a much better ruckman anyway. Marshall comes in for Ladhams and if we need a second ruckman, then Hayes.

Charlie is on the verge of ripping open a game. If he gets a fair shake from the umps and they see he is continually being held, plus he wakes up a bit and gets on his bike and leads that will help. Georgiades and Marshall becoming important targets will also help as he can't be double and triple teamed.

More likely to be a day game over a night game, Maybe at the MCG against Collingwood.

Doing a power of work away from goal and is a constant target in our kick out strategy when the oppo kick points.

Some of our fans just don't get how important he is and how much work he does. Gray, Raz, Rozee, Mots etc must be licking their lips at the crumbing opportunities off Charlie. He's our most important player.

And he is leading the boys off field, making sure they have fun away from footy.

Glad nobody did a wanganeen this time.

Agreed. He is easily our most important player, I was saying the same when the ridiculous posts were being thrown around for him to be dropped by some. That defied belief and logic for me, as you only have to watch our games to see how important Charlie is for the side. He makes all around him walk taller and provides leadership up forward.

His marking the last two weeks has picked up, I feel he's building into the season well.

Andrews for Brisbane has looked shaky down back in one on one's so this week is a chance for Charlie to make a statement.

At the post-match Barry Curtin asked Mitch who is the boss of the forward line. Mitch grinned and said We all know who the boss is. The crowd enjoyed the moment :D

There's been a bit of talk surrounding Charlie not being as good as he was last year in terms of goal output. Currently as it stands he's averaging 1.67 goals/game this year whereas last year he averaged 1.89 goals/game. In the last 5 games of last season he only kicked 7 goals. We went 4-1 during that period but even so, the media were blindly pushing this narrative that we can't win games unless Charlie kicks a bag.

Charlie also seems to be playing higher up the ground this year for large portions of the game, in large part because Georgiades is so freaking good as a deep one out KPF. He's still arguably our most important player because he opens things up for everyone else, but I don't think our scoring power is solely limited anymore as to whether or not he's having a good day in front of goal.

According to the stats Dixon had 5 contested marks which was a equal game high with Rowan Marshall, but he could have had so many more.

In the first quarter he got out-marked by Membrey, then out-bodied by Howard. Then he gave a free kick away to Howard for push in the back in a marking contest, and dropped one on the goal line that led to Rozee's goal (although he had two on him).

So yeah, he's invaluable to the team but could be so much better.

Carn. LOL

"dropped one on the goal line that led to Rozee's goal (although he had two on him)."

He should've got a free or front on contact too.

Interesting take as a whole....

The dropped mark in the first quarter that Rozee crumbed and goaled he should have been paid a free kick for the guy coming in from the front interfering with him, far worse than the free they paid against Himmelberg coming front on against the hawks player late in the last quarter of the game in Tassie earlier on Sunday.

The push out free against Howard in the 2nd quarter was garbage. He stuck his arm out to stop Howard coming back against him not shoving him out, yet a few minutes later, down the other end, Hill pushes Drew fair square in the back with two hands and its play on, Hill swoops onto the ball and goals. Even the commentators said Hill was lucky to get away with that.

Had Rozee not scooped that one up, it absolutely should have been a free to Charlie for front on contact.

He is copping the same s**t that tredders paying the price for 1 being so strong and 2 being a port player.
It is such bullshit how he gets hanged onto in every contest but nothing were other forward's get touched and get a free. I hope the club are making this known to the AFL umpires department.

Forgot one, Dougal goes for a big speckie on Charlie's back and doesn't even touch the ball - that's a free kick everyday, but because it lands on Boak's chest, he gets the mark and shot on goal and kicks it from 30m out.

The umpire gets these 3 free kick situations correct, and Charlie gets 3 more shots on goal and probably kicks them and kicks 5, and nearly all the people complaining stay quiet. I did say nearly all, not all.

Dixon’s arms get chopped in almost every marking contest but it rarely gets called. If he just got paid half of them, he’d likely be leading the Coleman.
