Just listening to SEN and the boys are going through Melbourne's out of contract players come seasons end.

One name stood out for me. Tom Macdonald.

He is exactly what we need. A big strong reliable key defender.

I know I'm dreaming but once Clokes contract expires the cap space we have could land this guy.

I don't think he's much different to Marsh tbh.

The way we're going I'm wondering how attractive a destination we will be to players who may be looking for a real flag contender?

Maybe we sack Buckley mid season, we improve slightly in the second half of next year and the new coach attracts some players in the off season.

I'd rather us look at a bloke like Lachie Hanson. Would come relatively cheap and personally I think he has really really improved in the last few years.

With him and Reid in the backline our intercept marking ability would skyrocket.

Problem with Hansen is that he gets Knocked out every second week and also very injury prone. Just what we need to increase the length of our already ridiculous injury list

So Pendles isnt off limits???
He's 28 so no not for mine. It would have to be a ridiculously good deal, but he's now reached attainable status for the correct price.

For instance GWS come to us with their two first rounders, Nathan Wilson and Cam McCarthy come trade time and the decision becomes tough...

Unfortunately not.

It's a sad state but we have not improved at all over the past 4 years and are still going backwards. I don't think he will be around for our next tilt at a flag so it may be worth letting him go somewhere where he can get a second flag and allowing us some prime picks to try to build a list that will be competitive.

Of course I would never push him out of the club, but if he was so inclined I wouldn't try to force him to stay

I do really like McDonald as a player, but if we are going to target a key defender of that quality it has to be Hurley. Hurley is a guy that we can get as a free agent so would cost us only the expense of a fat contract. We aren't in a position to throw away any more high draft picks in my opinion.

I agree that for the right deal pretty much any player should be a possibility. Club first and all that.

But three to four years is a long time and I don't see any reason why Pendles couldn't be playing good footy at 31 to 32.

The club won't trade out the skipper though. One club player I'd wager.

Yes please. Hurley as a permanent back line fixture would be just the ticket. Would take an immense load of Reid's shoulders.
