Ran into Cox at the airport this afternoon, well he is a massive unit (ignoring some condition). His size reinforced that we need real sized ruckmen who also have ability. Not much point having one without the other.
Correct me if I’m wrong however wasn’t Coxy a rather tall gangly type with not much condition on him and couldn’t run to save himself when first drafted - just saying which is possibly why Rucks take a bit of time so shouldn’t write off CDT🤔.

Sure, but Cox wasn't hyped up as the 2nd pick in the draft either

I said what i said. Not further explanation should be required.

Not drafting a player because you're scared they'll go home in 3 years is coward behaviour.
Tell that to GWS and GC . Revolving door of high end talent and a big reason the afl gave them academys .

Neither team has had ultimate success whilst either overpaying or losing talent every year

There was a great interview with the GWS list manager a few years ago about how they had to screen draftees and and not waste time on obvious go home players think it may have been the year they traded up and took cadman

I would rookie list CDT if he is still there

Will jump head first into oncoming traffic if we go for Starcevich.

Concussion issues aside he is the wrong age bracket in a position we already have a glut of mature players for.

He also relies HEAVILY on his athleticism to defend and play the game, think the cliff will come sooner than most think for him.

Yeah because our defence is so strong with cole Duggan and kids ....

It drives me nuts everytime I hear it.
How can you be so involved in trades and football and not realise this.

1.He’s out of contract and we have #1 pick in psd.
2. We have the first two picks in the nd and Annabelle
Completely moot.
Not to dig the boot in to you personally, but you yourself lack some comprehension here.

He’s a restricted free agent. He won’t go into the PSD.
National draft, yes, PSD no.

Not drafting a kid because of a perceived go home factor screams that the club is defeatist. If its a toss of a coin between two players at a certain pick, sure go the home grown talent, otherwise just draft the one the club wants and back yourself in to keep him in 3 years.

You shouldn't.

Think about risk v reward.

What are we risking? A list spot and salary cap....which we aren't really.

If he needs to retire due to concussion the payout is outside the salary cap. The risk there is to the WAFC dividend being slashed as we ca pay for it outside the cap.

So he comes in, gets retired and our cap isn't affected really. Just the bank account.

A lot of people say the Eagles are rich use their money. Taking risks such as this is one way we can use our balance sheet to improve.

Not sure if the WAFC would be happy though.
Is it an established fact that medical retirements are outside the salary cap and soft cap? Or is it a guess one person randomly said on here and it has been repeated so many times we are all now thinking it is a fact when maybe it isn't?

Assessing an inside or balanced midfielder after 1 season is insane. The body of most AFL 18 year olds takes 3 full seasons to get close to being ready. Too often they get plonked on a flank and even then get found out late in games and quarters.

I believe Jagga Smith and Draper will make it. Harley is the exception with his AFL readiness and his tank is hardly close to good enough

2. We have the first two picks in the nd and Annabelle could possibly be bid on.
3. They could still match the pick and keep him if they wanted.
4. They’d get nothing for him if he nominated a different club
4. They’ve surely got a salary squeeze coming and need to give someone up to bring all these players across.
5. With concussion issues we could back out and save face by not offering overs for him.

I don’t see any reason why we should be offering an end of first.
I agree. I think Brisbane probably need to offload Starcevich now. They have probably budgeted the expected offloading of his salary into their cap projections when figuring out how to pay for Allen and Draper and the extra money they will need to find for a whole bunch of players when their contracts come up. If he changed his mind and wanted to stay it would probably create a big headache for them cap wise.

National draft, yes, PSD no.

Only if Lions match the offer for a rfa bid though isn’t it? Not if they just don’t agree to terms.

If we don’t officially offer a rfa contract due to compo dilution then he’s just an uncontracted player isn’t he? In that case can’t he nominate for psd? Can’t make him re-sign

The good rappor with Brisbane may include Robertson for r3 pick
Just on this. When has our “good faith” in negotiations actually helped us in future trades.

We seem to love keeping good relationships but I can’t remember a time when that’s actually worked in our favour at the trade table.

Seems like being dicks actually gets you somewhere (maybe not Dodoro levels), but people quickly move on and will still deal with you in the future.

Bulldogs won’t be happy with Geelong after Smith last year but they’ll still make trades with them if one comes up.

I feel you are happy with how shit we have operated.

We should be giving ourselves the best chance every trade period to maximise players coming in , remuneration for players going out and maximising our draft hand .

We are not doing any of that

I am not happy in some areas.

In other areas it is too soon to tell.

You seem to default to "our recruiters are crap and keep making poor decisions.....waaaaaah"

Even after we pretty much turned over the entire list management team 18 months ago.

I'll call it a bad decision when we actually know it was a bad decision.

Not jump at shadows and wet the bed because the club didn't do what I wanted.

No idea how crows get both petracca and ahchee
This is my take, but who knows?
Petracca is who they need and that will happen imo.

That almost certainly makes it very difficult to accommodate a reported 5 year deal for Ah Chee.
They traded in Cumming, Neal-Bullen and Peatling last year in a bit of a bidding war so adding Petracca would be pushing their salary cap.

Either Ah Chee doesn't get there and is available to WC or we could help them out if that doesn't happen as they are also keen on G Stevens from GEE so they might need to offload a couple of fringe players like Dowling or Nankervis and we should be happy to help facilitate a trade.
Prefer Ah Chee for 4 years but one of those fringe players for the right price would be good option B.
