Still want to deal with GC and 2 is certainly up for discussion.

One is as well if the offer is too good to refuse but I do believe the club view Duursma as a player to take.
I’d say it’s pretty clear, at least it is for me and how I rate this draft.

The club want 3 top 10 picks. 13 is close and we can hope for a slider but nervous

Whoever holds pick 1 takes Duursma - who is well ahead of the pack. Therefore any deal has to be great for us, not fair. Sounds like it may mean 5 and 6 and nothing returning.

Whoever holds pick 2 has options. There is CDT who is rated as special. Now if clubs can get us 2 x picks inside 10, we might consider. If Tigers 3 or 4 or Dons 5 is involved, we can still get the player we want at that pick. I reckon it’s Sharp. If it’s 3 and 4, 13 goes back. Similar with 5 and 6 but we might like something in the future from Dons. If it’s 7 and 8, then there is nothing coming back, apart from Suns dodge a bid at 1 and maybe 34

My worry is that Dees will push hard for 7 and 8 and give Suns 22 and xxx. My hope is that Dees really want CDT and we could do 2 for 7+8 then improve our pick 34.

Being happy to lose our captain because we get pick 2 in return wreaks of loser-dom.

Given Allen's injuries over the last two years, Duggan has been defacto the captain. He's still here, and not going anywhere.

If Allen had been injury free the last two years, well we'd likely be looking at a very different story right now.

That one just occur to you? Given you already replied, this is like where you think you've got the best comeback in the world but it only comes to you five minutes too late.

Didn't give a shit about Rioli at Port to be honest.

Oh should have cheered him on. That’s a bit on the nose my guy

Is Jack Billings any good? He was decent at St Kilda wasn't he? Hes a de-listed free agent
I wouldn't consider him. Delisted from 2 clubs now, never went close to living up to the hype of a pick 3. Much better delistees out there, let alone talents to bring on as a rookie

Are their any good ruck's in this draft? I know Marshall is linked with Geelong but given Ryan wants to go to saints maybe we could make something happen?

Also what are getting for Chesser and what are we giving for Young? I heard we aren't giving 34 for young?
Nope but a lot in the next few years Axel walsh, benji van rooyen, mcarthy from swan districts. 3 from WA alone

Has the 2026 captaincy been sewn up? I don't want us to be in a Richie Vandenberg situation.

One thing is I wouldn't want to trade too many futures with next year being the last year before Tasmania enters the draft.

Can definitely see a 3 way trade between us, GC and Melb

Wce gain: 7, 8 & Melb F2
Wce lose: 2 and 13

GC gain: Petraca and 13
GC lose: 7 & 8

Melb gain: Pick 2
Melb loss: Petracca & F2

Equal on points for us, we'll have 3 good NGA next year, that would get bids so an additional R2 is handy.

Values Pectraca at 5

GC still have 15 and 18 to split

Both clubs not to bid, saving 822 points. GC still have enough capital to get points
Why would we give up 2 and 13 for 7,8 and a F2, lol? Moving down 5 spots from 2 to move up 5 spots from 13?

For all the shit some of you give the club for splitting picks in the past, most of the split suggestions on here are god awful.

Any idea how we rate our NGA & F/S kids?

Like which ones would be highest priority and we would match?

Being happy to lose our captain because we get pick 2 in return wreaks of loser-dom. Don't get me wrong, I'm ok with the decision under the circumstances. But I hope we never go through this again. Strong clubs don't let their captain's walk out the door, then cheer about it.
I don't think there's any being happy loser-dom here. Other than that I feel the same way; under the circumstances.

We've had nearly a year to get used to this.
Everyone on the planet has known that OA wanted out.

You can argue (validly) that he should have been more open and given up the captaincy.

I also believe that the club are better off without a festering sore than to have matched any offer and kept a malcontent disruptor on board.

Having had lots of time to get used to (and accepting same) him leaving it has for months been a best for the club, best outcome scenario.

Wants out. Dressing room poison. Best result - gone.
Get a decent return. Best case scenario - pick 2. Best result - achieved.

Am I happy the captain wanted out? No. But once it was apparent he wanted out but didn't resign the position I just wanted him gone with a decent return as the best thing for the club.

No.

I wish people would stop suggesting giving up the best players in the draft for a cohort of lesser ones.

You don't give up the best player in the draft for 2 lesser ones.

Hope to see more of this.

Yes we are competition & we hate each other on-field - but we also face the same systematic issues in the AFL.

Joining forces when its mutually beneficial is a no-b

Look at the top sides and tell me how much rucks matter to success? At this stage of our build it’s not an issue unless one with the right age profile nominates us in free agency. Can look at adding that later in our evolution
Like I know CDT is a decentish ruck but he's not the best contested mark.
Our lack of a decent ruck man that can tap the ball to the advantage of our young midfield is a huge disadvantage.
We should offer the saints pick 13 and Liam Ryan for Rowan Marshall. We should offer Marshall more dollars than Dekoenig.
We need someone like Marshall to fill a hole in our team whilst our youngsters like Archer Reid and possibly CDT are developing their ruck craft,

I think you misunderstand my point. Oscar wanted the best deal, Brisbane offered it. That's business. But Brisbane are celebrating back-to-back premierships, and somehow managed to snag our captain and Essendon's ruck. Those ****ers would be laughing their arses off. Meanwhile, the only thing we're celebrating is that we have early picks in a shallow draft.

Our cupboard is bare.

Unless we pull off an absolute miracle in the trade period, next season is gonna be grim. Because there's no Harley Reid in the draft this year and I can't see CDT making us immediately better next year.
We’ll win more next year than we did this year (historically low bar obviously).

Average age of 23 for our top 5 in the B&F (Carlton the oldest at 29, Bris/Freo both 24 so doing well, then other teams 25+)
Added a couple of senior experienced players
Another year of development into early draft picks (and some coming into their second preseason with expectations around how they need to return - this was clearly an issue last year)

We one 1 game and had another 7-8 decided by under 5 goals (plus at least a few more where we were competitive in patches). It’s not going to be a 20 win 2026, but could easily be 5-6 wins with us competitive in most games for longer.

Duursma has to be the highest upside in the draft right? Hope we font give him up at this point unless its an absolute kings ransom.

We really really really shouldn't do this
