Thanks Ammo Man , wish I had heard it first hand. The interesting points from the interview for me were:
- The club had phone records showing contacts between Essendon and Mark dating back to July this year. When asked whether Evans was one of them he said he didn’t want to “get into that”. Just why either party would make contact through the club mystifies me.
- Cooky said Marks departure “could have been handled better”. “There were lots of half truths in there” "There was a lack of transparency”
- Asked why there wasn’t more openness he said “We’re pretty strong on our values and we trust people and we expect them to be honest with us” WHACK!!!
- On Bartel he said: “I don’t think Jimmy’s motivated by money” “I think Jimmy puts money up there but not at the top. I would be extremely surprised if Jimmy left the Geelong Football Club” He went on to say that we’d have more money in the cap now the deserter (my word) has gone and that would ensure (Jimmy leaving) doesn’t happen.
- Asked if he’d like to return to the playing field when we next played Essendon, he quipped “only if David Evans and Ian Robson were playing” WHACK!!!
- He did wish Mark well and hoped he’d return for reunions.
Thanks Ammo Man , wish I had heard it first hand.
Sounds like classic Cook - confident , articulate with a touch of humour.
Thanks for the memories Bomber but your exit has tarnished your reputation.
Now , very much looking forward to getting behind Scott , Cook and the true believers and our fantastic Club !!!
pretty hard to argue otherwise when you look at the extreme amount of money they were prepared to throw at him, and that Thompson's snide remarks didn't start until about a quarter of the way into the 2010 season (I truly believe that Ablett was signed up by GC in 2009).

Onya Cooky, always handles himself with aplomb. Any chance we could keep around until he dies?

Yeah I think Bomber knows he did the wrong thing in his handling of this. Cooky said all we can expect him to say - we do owe Bomber for a lot but he also owes the club (even though he probably wouldn't agree) for doing the right thing by him in 2006, reaffirming him as coach and hiring Balmey in support.
It's been a tough few months but now is not the time to look back on an era and salute those who leave us, nor is it a time to get bitter and angry. Those who remain must band together as one and remember that this club will survive regardless of their presence. The challenge is to continue to succeed in this new exciting era of the Geelong Football Club. If anyone isn't fully committed, let them walk now like Bomber did. To everyone else, enjoy the break and get ready for a tough pre-season!
By my counting six weeks and one day was from the Tuesday when Cook told us that Thompson was burnt out and would be given time to consider his position.
Last week was only five weeks since his resignation was acknowledged. So somewhere the truth is not what is being said.
Could it be that his resignation was handed in on the Tuesday, accepted to make the six weeks one day, and we were not told the truth. Could it be that the club scurried to save the reputations of those closest to Thompson. The people who should have known and who did not have a clue what their great mate was doing.
Former Geelong assistant Brendan McCartney will be a line coach under Hird, but Thompson will clearly have a major role involving long hours and heavy commitments.
Balmey's comment we had the wool pulled over our eyes is proving to be the under statement of the year.

There's no question there's been tension between Cooky and Thompson dating way back to the way matters were handled when Thompson was under pressure to hold his job. But that comment is wide of the mark -no pun intended.Balme is right we have had the wool pulled over our eyes BUT it appears not only by Thompson.
A strong story that Cook and Thompson had not spoken to one another for six months. This came form someone whose other 'stories' have always been spot on.
If true then this administration and Board have also been pulling the wool over our eyes with repeated messages of strength and unity.
They will have contributed to our on field wasted year-it breaks my heart every time I think that we could have been premiers.
