Victoria 18 more cases today

...and 6 of those are fly ins so that is 12 out in the general community included a third BLM protestor. Things are not getting any better in Melbourne and they really should be reverting back to stage 2 lock down. That is 81 cases in the past week of which approx 24 have been fly ins. I am glad I am living in Adelaide and not in Melbourne.

That makes-

3 Schools
2 Child Care Centres
2 Aged Care Facilities
1 H&M Store
2 Medical Practices

all closed at some stage over the past week but Melbourne does not have a problem.

At least 50 odd community related cases in the past week and the Victorian Premier remains determined to proceed with easing of COVID-19 restrictions as planned and cannot understand why SA won't open it's border with Victoria. Things are not getting any better in Victoria and on that basis South Australia has every right to maintain a closed border policy.

Scott Morrison just gave a Press Conference about increased and concerted cyber attacks on Australian Government Departments and private institutions. He has said this is believed to be a State sponsored attack. He did not mention any suspects but I guess there is one obvious one.

This morning's COVID figures are slow in being released so I am wondering if there is a connection.

When asked what the motivation of the hackers was, Mr Morrison said 'it was difficult to pinpoint exactly what it might be'.

I might have an idea Scott. What country has Australia upset in recent times and what country has cancelled barley exports, questioned beef exports and warned their nationals not to travel to Australia for fear of racial abuse?

Standing on principle is one thing Scott but cutting off your nose despite your face is another and despite this morning's effort at telling us what a great job you are doing, that fact is we should have kept our collective mouth shut and let the big players argue the toss.

Geez we need an alliance with UK and Europe and piss off the others...if only.

Marshall announces that SA's border with Queensland will open from midnight. AFL players are exempt from quarantine travelling into SA and back to Qld.

A couple of weeks too late. If the AFL had known this would be the case when they framed the first four weeks of the season restart we could have played a couple of games in Adelaide. Then again this is the AFL and they are never going to make things easy for us.

Iceland opened up

Would that actually work. Let's say I catch the virus at Heathrow on the way to Iceland. I get tested 4-6 hours before I get tested, wouldn't I test negative?

Probably. That is possibly what happened to Madam X, SA's last positive case. She flew from the UK to Melbourne where she tested negative then after approximately one week flew to Adelaide where she tested positive. She could have contracted COVID at Heathrow or of course she could have contracted COVID on arrival in Melbourne. Despite the claims by airlines it must also be possible to contract COVID in flight.

I think the Icelanders are trying to create a best case scenario to get their tourist trade up and running. Iceland had been a red hot travel destination over the past few years and they are in the early days of the northern summer which would be the peak of their tourist season. They probably figure they can control the few cases that get through. I am unsure if Ice land has a tracking app in place but if they do they could require all arrivals to install the app.

On the subject of the mobile tracking apps the UK Government has ditched it's app and is going with the Google/Apple version as it is considered less invasive to personal privacy. I find it amazing the anything Google is associated with is considered less of a risk to privacy. The leap from Google trace to Google maps is not that hard to imagine. The UK Government is a bit of a joke re COVID. They spend months with an Isle of Wight trial which is approved then they suddenly decide it isn't for them and turn to a couple of the techno giants. This goes with the dithering over a response, the testing fiasco and the PPE shortages.

Approximately 60% of britons don't trust a tracking app to share data and they are not likely to be re assured by anything Apple and Google have a hand in.

As long as you are wearing your Oura Smart Ring you should be ok 😉

Sounds like Oz

As of 19th June there were only 5 active cases outside of Victoria (91) and New South Wales (84).

Victoria has now overtaken New South Wales as the State with the nation's highest level of COVID-19 infection.

Overall it is a good picture as many of those active cases are overseas travelers.

It is actually 25 new cases with only one fly in.

Daniel Andrews is currently on TV explaining that the Victorian Government is postponing some of the easing of restrictions in Vicotria. He has also foreshadowed possible lockdowns in local areas where there is high incidence of positive tests. The easing of restrictions on numbers in pubs, bars etc will not go ahead this weekend and limits will remain at 20. Family gatherings will be limited to 5 per household. Opening of gyms as planned is OK. Daniel Andrews is saying he has consulted the Prime Minister and briefed him on the situation and his changes are in line with the National Cabinet's easing of lock down restrictions.

This is an understandable wind back as the situation in Victoria is not getting any better in fact these figures are early April stuff when it was considered to much of a risk to stage AFL games in Melbourne.

There must now be considerable pressure on the AFL to relocate Melbourne based clubs to safer environments. I cannot see the SA Government allowing Port or the Crows to FIFO of Victoria anytime in July and Steven Marshall has even hinted that the SA Victoria border may not open as planned on 20th July.
