I feel like a large portion of the panic is the fact there doesn't appear to be any strong leadership anywhere in the world. Any one individual who sorta knows what they're doing and rallying people. Great Depression had FDR, WWII had Churchill. But it's a disease, something intangible and not as easy to predict or repel as previous crises. There are so many unknowns which make it so difficult to act with confidence or assertion.

And not helped by the fact that there are some truly awful leaders in the world right now not exactly setting a great tone (particularly Trump, who I actually agree with on the Chinese virus thing but who has burned any respect or credibility needed to be worth listening to in a situation like this.)

Political leaders won’t ever please all the experts out there

unpopular opinion but scomo has done ok I reckon

Even if Scomo has done ok, that seems to be the best we can hope for from our world leaders these days.. just be ok, and try not to **** up too badly.

Too slow and too timid IMO. All other countries are going into lockdown while we're stopping schools from making their own choices (NSW Catholic schools were strong armed into staying open). Time will tell in the long run though, currently too much to judge. I'll happily eat my hat should we get through this better than I'm currently expecting (both in terms of health & the economy)

If you want to pop down to tassie for a coffee just remember to isolate for 14 days on arrival

borders closed

Safely say North and Hawthorn aint playing games there! Will be more dead than usual in Tassie (not a bad thing in these times though)

We are following the model of the Phillipines. If you have looked into that region you'll know why. All through this their schools have remained open.

I think the thing I find is people’s ability to deal with illness is no existent

oh I’m sick but I can’t get a test

so what ****en to isolate like if you were sick anytime

You still have to go about your day to day life, the world isn't going to stop

A bit of common sense wouldn't go astray either....if you are sick here's an idea, stay home. If not, you are fine.

And I know you don’t always get symptoms etc

I’m talking about people who are sick and stuff

Yeah look it will be different for 12 months but I will always defer to the experts, if they tell me it's safe enough to work and what not I will

Personally, it is my belief that this statement is exactly what's causing all the panic - we aren't any other country and can't be compared to other countries. The countries most badly affected are in a different hemisphere than us, have a different age demographic, a different healthcare system, live in far more densely populated locations than we do.
Action had to be taken, we are definitely not immune, but completely locking down the county, even for a short time, has such huge implications for the future that (in my opinion) the facts as we know them currently, don't justify. Personally I think the course this country has chosen is, at the moment, the best, most logical.

These are my personal thoughts and beliefs and I do hope no one on here takes it as an attack on what their thoughts are, as that's not my intention.

Close schools who looks after the kids? What happens if a parent is a nurse etc. they can’t work so less people in the hospitals assisting. Singapore didn’t close schools.
Close the schools for how long?

Exactly. The Singapore model is by far and away the best one.
