Recruitment is probably the 1 position we should find easiest to fill with/attract a top candidate if we were to go that path and had a candidate in mind.

Unlike most other times where we are often disadvantaged by needing someone keen to relocate to Adelaide, it’s one of few high powered positions that don’t require this.

I'm not all that down on our talent ID guys, I reckon they're the least of our worries. Coaching and selection philosophy remain the key issue that reduces player's ceilings. Gooch looked likely early and deserved games ahead of Mackay and then ripped his Achilles which killed off his 2nd chance opportunity. Milera has been crueller by injury and he would have been about evens on where he was drafted. McAsey has just totally shat the bed after some promising signs having been thrown in the deep end. And Jones is being rebuilt to at least looking like a competent defender after we totally destroyed his mindset. Hell, quite a few supposedly knowledgeable posters on this board had Fog playing ammos next year.

But fact remains, prior to previous 2 drafts, and regardless of why it happened, 4 of our 5 first picks aren't presently providing anything near the performance expected. And in the 3 most recent drafts, which we have had very high picks, we've selected 2 small forwards that we hope transition to small midfielders. It's not exactly the kind of solid foundation that you build a dynasty from. My firm view is that we need 2 more years in the bottom few and then select mids with the first picks and we need to get those right. Otherwise we're just going to climb to the bottom part of the 8 relying on experience and continuity and be a nothing club.

Hey guys, not sure where to pose this question so pls let me know if there is a better spot to intrude.

I’m travelling with my young fam thru Adelaide in mid Jan, planning to stay in Glenelg for a few nights. We know nothing about Adelaide apart from there are good wineries and the hills are nice.

Just wondering where the best spots are for nice cafe’s/restaurants/pubs/nice streets you’d recommend as locals in Adelaide? Also any general spots worth visiting.

We are planning to head up to check out Hahndorf and the Clare and Barossa Valleys also, any spots in those areas you’d recommend would be welcome also.

Cheers!

How long you staying?

You’ve chosen some good spots, but not much in Clare and Barossa for kids.

If you’ve got time go for a drive to Victor Harbor, not sure if they still do but they used to have a bit of a carnival going. It’s a nice spot anyway with a bit to do and Horseshoe Bay nearby in Port Elliot is nice for a swim.

In Glenelg you’ve got waterslides and entertainment for the kids.

You could always go watch the Crows train at West Lakes which isn’t far ;)

If you go to Hahndorf, head out to Shaw + Smith/Nepenthe wineries.

Oh and streets to visit in Adelaide, the Parade Norwood, not only does it have cafes and pubs, it’s the home of the reigning premiers, the Mighty Redlegs. O’Connell St in North Adelaide, Tony Tomatoes if you want some nice pasta and pizza for the kids.

Henley Square at Henley Beach not far from Glenelg has a few eating options and it’s always busy.

Just include in your planning because of potential road disruptions the Tour Down Under, which commences 13th January to 22nd January.

Number of excellent wineries in McLaren Vale.

In the Barossa Valley, Hentley Farm winery.

Clare - Pikes is a good winery to go as you can eat & drink. Free tasting too unlike some wineries. Plenty of others to drop is for tasting like Mitchell & Killakanoon. If you like Rieslings, you will love Clare.

Barossa - so many to choose from & depends on which towns you are based. Seppeltsfield has beautiful grounds... then likes of Langmeil, Murray Street, Kalleske & Charlie Melton. So many full bodied reds. Take the kids to whispering wall.

Angaston is nice. Has good pubs, a good bakery and the 40's cafe.

I had another one of my bizarre Crows-related dreams last night. I wake up a couple of hours earlier than I would normally need in order to go to work. I whack on the telly and am surprised that the Crows (men's side) are playing a grand final, at a mostly-empty MCG at about 6 o'clock on a weekday morning. I suppose that explains the poor crowd. It's not a replay, it's live. I'm both delighted that they're appearing in a granny, and horrified that I was not aware they had reached a granny.

I can't remember which team we're playing but the game is about halfway over and the Crows are ahead by two goals or less. It's obviously too late to get a ticket and go to Melbourne, so I run to the wardrobe and scramble to get my Crows gear like the scarf. I've decided to rush to a pub like the Arkaba where I can watch the game with other supporters. 'The Crows are winning, the Crows are winning,' I repeat to myself as I stumble out the front door, dragging the shoes that I'm still putting on ... and then I wake up.

i dream about playing but there's always an obstacle, like a clothesline or trees. Last one was going ok, playing for school, but then the ball disappeared and it turned out that half the game was being played on a completely different oval. The other one is a golf dream where I can't find a spot to tee off from. I keep putting the ball down but there's always a reason that I can't hit it. And people keep turning up waiting to play and I can't find a spot to hit from. The last one I was standing between church pews with the ball in the aisle on a short par 3. Someone had said that I look like a good golfer and I eventually chunked it about 30m. Great dreams.

That's where our kids found out they'd been adopted and we were considering dumping them and getting some nicer ones.
