Ive seen that, but there is more to that interview that I havent seen. Saw a snippet somewhere today where he is having a potshot at the 2017 Grand final stance.
the thing I took out of that was how weird Brad Crouch's voice is.
Don't think I'd ever heard him speak before that

There’s plenty of people that have talent up to their eyeballs but lack the commitment and discipline to play at the highest level, some just don’t like the hype and total buy in that AFL demands which is fair enough.
I grew up with two brothers who were gifted sportsmen. One won the Tonkin Medal, the other did a knee in his teens which was a big set back back in the 80’s, the point is they both could’ve made SANFL league and possibly the VFL (pre AFL days) but they lacked the discipline and preferred to hit the bongs and beer instead, again, fair enough.
Then you have players like Ben Keays who probably aren’t elitely gifted but just work really hard to make it.

My son went to school with a couple of boys (brothers) who were not only elite athletes (in the firsts for Cricket, AFL, Basketball) but high achieving academics as well. Both were in the Lions academy while one chose to pursue Cricket (now plays for QLD) and the other has gone down the path of player management (and probably as good as his brother, but didn't want to commit to the lifestyle I think).

How the hell can we evacuate the SANFL? Criminal that the SANFL has a bye week the same week as our bye.
It may have been a request by the club

It may be to align with a mandated break for players or it was an opportunity the club to freshen everyone up

I agree its not ideal but we may be driving it

Have to have a bye this week as it’s the club wide AFLPA mandatory in-season bye. It’s just an issue because they are a part of a deeply flawed semi-pro fixture that has to have stupid factors ingrained into the season because they want each team to just play each other only twice but at the same time they try to stretch out the season by starting it 3 weeks later than the AFL & inserting meaningless State games & byes/split-rounds so that the grand final is the week before the AFL Grand Final. So because of all that is why you end up with this mess with those multiple random (no-one gives a shit about) horribly timed State Game byes and byes given to AFL clubs when the other one has the mandatory AFL bye.

The most stupid thing about it is it’s fine if the SANFL want to organise their fixture like that but just then don’t prevent the Crows and Port playing each other in those State League Game weekends under the ‘gaining competitive advantage’ banner and actually organise the split-round properly around both team’s AFL byes rather than just one team’s (AFL could also come to the party by organising the Crows/Port byes in back-to-back weeks instead).

This bye would be our request so that the whole club can have a break

The problem is the 8 other byes we've had so far

This. The SANFL season is so stop-start

So far, we’ve had 2 byes for state games, a round where only 4 games were played and a we’re now in the midst of a split round.

There’s still another round later in the season where the only match is the SANFL Showdown!

The longest stretch any team has without a week off is 5 matches (6 clubs). The longest stretch the other 4 clubs get without a break is 4 games.

Do we really need this many weeks off in what is already a relatively short season at just 18 matches.

Both AFL clubs having SANFL byes aligning with their AFL bye has been mandated by the AFL for years now, to call it “criminal” is laughable.

When both clubs wanted their own reserves teams one of the main arguments is that it would get rid of the byes in the SANFL, that lasted a few years. Now there’s many SANFL byes that are forced by the AFL, Gather Round (weekend of 12/4), Port’s AFL bye (weekend of 31/5) and the Adelaide AFL bye weekend of 21/6). The AFL also demand all state leagues end their seasons the week before the AFL GF. I’m sure there’s also pressure from the AFL that the SANFL season starts at a certain time hence the need to space out the season, better that than playing some teams three times and others twice.

The only SANFL byes are the second State game on 17/5, a split round 14/6-21/6 which coincides with Adelaide’s AFL bye and another bye round on 26/7 where no one plays but Adelaide and Port which again I assume is more an AFL choice than an SANFL one.

I really don’t see what the angst is towards the SANFL in this gripe, it’s clearly more of an AFL mandate than an SANFL one.

We started on Saturday March 29

Of the 13 weekends, our reserves have only played on 9 of them

It's not enough football
