$190mil wouldnt change or move the needle ??

The people down there are dumber than I thought if thats the case.
Yeah - we are all idiots.

As I said earlier:

It’s not the bottom line cost that is pushing the naysayers - they think Tasmania shouldn’t pay for any of it OR have any risk going forward. So unless the price drops to point where the state government puts $0 in … it is a waste of money as far as some are concerned. Every spare dollar should go to health or education or housing. So no the difference in $ for a different roof is NOT significant.

As to the Tassie stadium, let them build it, it will be completely different to anything else in Australia which will come part of Hobarts identity in the future.

Yeah, it's a big upfront cost but those sorts of things always are. People are acting like Perth stadium came in at 58 million dollars...they are expensive things that pay money back over time.

Surely no one who watched that spectacle on Friday night can still think Tassie doesn’t need a roof.

You need to be able to program night games, it was a shit show and it’s only mid June, wait until July.

If you’re going to spend that much building a stadium you want to give it the best chance of success even if it costs you money in the short term.

Its a big ask to spend a billion dollars on a stadium that won't come close to creating the economic benefit needed.

But at the same time I agree it needs one, but why not build it out of steel ??

I don’t care what it’s built out of, but it needs one.

As for the cost, that’s more a justification to have a roof, they are going to spend a shit loud irrespective and the best chance of recouping their money is to spend extra and make it viable.

As long as it's not the same steel they used in the Kardinia Park stands revelopment...otherwise it might come cascading down on the players and supporters...

I'm obviously a bit more sick of the round-and-round discussions on the stadium than most :)

It's not $1b ... it's just not. The people pushing that $$$$$$ angle are including everything they can to pump it up and dismissing the other money coming into the project from the Feds / AFL.

The roof issue is not one about what it's made of (Steel and Wood and Plastic) it's trying to say "why can't we play at York Park or Bellerive". If the Stadium at Mac Point had no roof it would still be shot down by the Greens and Independents.

Anyone who has been to either of the existing stadiums in Tassie at night will tell you they are not just massively outdated, freezing with no infrastructure around them ... they are a sub-standard experience even for AFL AND will never be used for concerts or other performances.

These people with their "No Stadium" bumper stickers are always negative - it's never about building anything, it's never "pro" anything. It is always "No to this" - "Don't do that" - "Stop this". Their is never any compromise, it's always 100% or 0%. I ask these types of people how they deal with the guilt of driving cars (usually smoke spewing petrol guzzlers) on roads and living in houses that have both destroyed the natural landscape? Do they feel shame when they have a cup of coffee that isn't locally grown served to them in a cup made in China? Do all of their clothes need to be from locally sourced fibres made by Tasmanians? Not for me thank you very much.

so ... Either build a modern enclosed stadium (for about 60% of the real cost to the State) with the chance to deliver more than the sum of its parts to the community - or forget it and the AFL team and make sure everyone thinks twice about investing here for any big projects in the future.

Enjoy this amazing story of when Brad Crouch and Matt Jaensch played cricket together
