Crows SANFL Reserve Side

It would be something similar to the VFL model, wouldn't it? We would have one side that we would be closely aligned to? There's a dozen ways we COULD do it.

We could bring in top up players to make up the numbers. Preferably mature age players the club are interested in or in the years we have father son picks we include them.

We need a reserves side so that Craig can see Walker play across half back.

SANFL coaches like Bassett are constantly screwing up our players by playing Walker up forward or Godden playing Petrenko down back. It's not their fault, these coaches just don't know any better.

As soon as we have complete ownership over all of our players there will be no holding our club back.

I know the concept of a reserve side is not overly popular on this forum, however as a football supporter under 25 who like many my age never grew up affiliated to a SANFL side I would love to see the Crows have a reserve side, preferably in the SANFL.

i think most have missed the point of the thread. Not if we should have a reserves team or not, but rather how a team would be filled due to only 44ish players on the crows list.
If it's not an aligned SANFL club it would be SA Under 18 players

Yeah the magpies will eventually become our reserves team and like the Crows will probably just have 10 or 12 top up players. It isn't apart of the One PAFC proposal because it would give us an unfair advantage over you guys until you get your own team, so trying to do it now would just complicate things and reduce our chances of getting it approved.

But as soon as you guys get it together we will be ready to make the change.

If Port and the Crows want reserves sides they can play them in the VFL like everyone else.

Wont happen in the SANFL.

Should and hopefully will happen.

Of course it should and i agree hopefully it does but if the custodians of the SANFL have their way, it won't as the Crows are only a cash cow to there piss poor second rate feeder competition.

The AFL should have a reserves comp, I think somewhere down the line people will soon start questioning whether Collingwood and Geelong having their own reserves teams has been advantageous to their player development and success.

IMO our system leaves too much responsiblity for the development of players at the mercy of their respective SANFL coaches. As others have brought up in the past a poorly coached SANFL team can potentially be detrimental to the development of players on our list ie would someone like Talia be developing better at Centrals rather than South?

For me there is no doubt that a reserves side would greatly assist the development of our side both from a team perspective (players playing together) and from the point of view that we can play them in the positions best suited to their AFL development ie key position players not being played as ruckmen etc

This makes a whole lot of sense. Can't stand that our players can be played in positions that we don't want them in.

in an ideal world, i would have thought that every afl team would have a dedicated reserves team. how or whether the rest of the states get it done is immaterial. surely it is in the best interests of both adelaide afl teams to be looked at fairly seriously. i would analogise that potential crows/power reserves teams are square pegs and the sanfl is a round hole. in order to have reserves teams there would need to be at least some change to the sanfl comp as it exists today. all they need to do is to determine what the sanfl would look like in the event that port/crows were able to successfully field reserves teams. then it's a matter of determining whether that sanfl model is in the best interest of football in sa as a whole. no doubt an appropriate study on this would be costly, and they may not have the funds right now, but ultimately it needs to be commissioned and the results eventually made public. then we can all rest easy on the matter. just like adelaide oval.

With the 20th year coming round its a good time to say to the SANFL. We've been your cash cow for long enough let us do what is best for us. Chance of this happening...
Are the AFL licence ownership and us having a reserves team linked?

Just asking, not saying that they're not.

Good question...don't know the answer to that one.

Was there only 9 teams in the SANFL when the Crows came in?? My memory of when that happened is hazy. Something should have been done long ago.

If it is a clause in the ownership you would think all this talk of the AFC looking hard at setting one up in some form would be rubbish.
