Two champions of the game, very similar players. Who would you prefer in your side in their prime at the moment?

2 absolute stars of the game that would have been regarded a lot closer to Buckley, Voss, Hird if not for how they behaved off the field. They both set the standard for hard running and preperation and reaped the benefits with 11 Top 10 Brownlow finishes between them.

Voted for Crawf simply for the fact that for a long time he was playing a lone hand in the Hawthorn midfield. For many years the WC midfield was regarded as the best, where Hawthorns was held together single handedly by Crawf yet he only ever had 3 years where he didn't average 20+ disposals for the year (and 1 was his debut year)

Great response. Keep in mind though the Eagles midfield only really got its mojo running probably through that bit of a purple patch in 03, prior to that for quite some time Cuzzy was still the lone soldier. The late nineties had the adging soldiers dying off and the earlier 2000's.... jeez they were shocking times.

If Benny hadnt fell off the horse & played all of 2007, 08, he'd be close to the 300 much like Crawf, and Shanes got 4 years on him. But of course, if if's & but's were candy n nuts .... ect

Absolutely Spot On :thumbsu:

I would prefer Crawford around the club, but as soon as that white line is crossed I'd take Cousins...

Agree.

Cousins is still one of the best players in the country imo.

How can you argue against a bloke like Cousins? Absolute freak of a player.

Cousins at his best was unstopable, the guy could run all day....although crawf does that too haha. But yeh I remember him in his peak the guy was a freak.

My favourite Cousins moment (apart from the fact he has never once been caught using drugs, and has been absolutely shat on by the media - yet somehow kept his cool) was the 'comeback' game for West Coast in 2007, when he was meant to be unfit, out of it, recovering etc. and he racked up 40+ touches and kicked 4 goals, won WCE the match.

Just showing that social drug users aren't junkies, and that no matter what Benny C does to himself, he's still better than 99% of the AFL.

I guarantee you, if he plays next year, you'll see him have at least one game where everyone just sits back and goes "holy shit, I forgot how good this guy is"

i think u might mean 38 touches and 0 goals

i have no doubt that whoever he plays for next season, he will rip it up.

its going to be awful viewing as a west coast supporter.

personally i thought he played his best 07 game in round 21 against stkilda. he killed it and was vital to our comeback.

gun.

Cousins by a long long long way. Don't even need to think about it really, Cousins is a much more damaging player.

Cousins by some way on field. Crawford by some way off it.

Cousins is a freak of a player. Would be talked about in the same sentences as Hird, Bucks and Voss had he played in Melbourne.

Completely agree.

I genuinely wonder whether Judd was really as good as everyone thought, or if it had an awful lot to do with having Cousins by his side?

i'll agree. won't say cousins by a mile, because crawf was a complete champion, but cousins was just a little better at the gut-running and explosive power that they both share.

i absolutely refuse to place either of them close to Harvey, Hird, Voss, or Buckley. as good as crawf and cuzz were, they were not close to those modern legends

if crawf had of played for any other team, he would have been regarded one of the greatest ever.

Prior to crawf, hawthorn had a series of great players with numerous achievements. this takes a hell of a lot away from his own achievments, because even subconciously we compare him to the likes of Jarman, Platten, Dipper etc...

his off field acts have also taken a lot away from him.
