The one thing I really love about Daisy as a Pies supporter is how competitive he is. He plays on the wing and in the old fashioned way, normally goes one on one with an opposing wingman. It is very rare that the oposing wingman plays better than Daisy. In fact I can't remember him being clearly beaten by anyone out there all year.

If we were to put them both out on a wing in a big game, I would take Daisy every day of the week.

I thought before his dreadful 2010 display, that Higgins would have been a much better kick, but now I'm not so sure. Hopefully he gets back to 2009 class this year now that he is fully fit. Everyone can see the class, but having said this, everyone saw Daniel Wells' class and he has never really gone to the levels we all expected.

If Daisy doesn't improve on last year then I could easily see Higgins matching or exceeding his output.

But I'm actually expecting Thomas to go to an even higher level this year. I think now he has the confidence in himself that he belongs at the very top, and the confidence that he can run out games strongly, he will become a true superstar of the competition. I expect better disposal, more clearances, more pivotal possessions and even a few more goals. If this happens then I don't think Higgins has a chance of ever catching him.

His form in 2010 wasn't the issue. In the 17 games he managed before the illness stopped him he was still averaging 20 touches and a goal per game. In 2009 he averaged 21 disposals and 1.6 goals a game.

He did play out of sorts, which was a mistake by the selection committee in hindsight. His numbers didn't suffer too much aside from the DE which you referred to. I actually didn't notice it as much.

If you can, get a look at the NAB cup game (regrettable to have to use that 20/20 shit as an example) vs North. His kicking in that game was back to his best, on both sides.

actually looking at the poll the 100 or so votes higgins being in front is kind of making feel like alot of people know jack shit about footy. I kind of allowed 50 or so collingwood hate shit but 100 in front is bordering on embarrassment, in saying i will refuse to post on this matter any more.

Or that the thread was started a year or two ago...

Because these four Magpie supporters below are definitely purporting the Collingwood hate shit.

Higgins definitely.

Not by as much as most on bigfooty would like to think, though.

higgens at the moment, thomas could catch him, time will tell.

oh cmon! Surely no one actually rates Thomas above Higgins?

I'd take higgins over thomas any day of the week

If Higgins stays healthy this year, he'll have every chance to show why he was rated to be so far ahead.

I will probabaly appear to be one eyed, however I don't beleive that Higgins is rated ahead any more.
This poll was stated a bit over a year ago, when everyone would rate Higgins ahead (including myself). Most of the voting happened in that period pulling Higgins well ahead.
Since then Thomas has had a very good year including a couple good GF games. The poll was bumped after that period and a majority of the voting has been for Daisy since then. Higgins is a gun when running and Daisy looks like he has taken it up another gear since last year (at least it looks like it in preseason which might not mean much) It would be interesting to see how a new poll rated them at the end of the year if they both stay fit.

Higgins could well have a Daisy-type year this season, though.

At the time Higgins was rated far ahead, without having a real breakout.

Hence the reason Gus said was so far ahead.
Im sure most people know that Daisy is ahead now. He has had a great career so far, even if there are a lot of nay-sayers to how good he is.
A lot of people, myself included believe Higgins can replicate the sort of form Daisy has been in lately. Maybe surpass it. If only he can get over his injuries. Which it looks like he might this year *touch wood*.

It would be great if both could get to that level and keep going. I like Daisy as a player, and will be glad if he keeps up this form, but obviously I want Higgins to do better :p
Very excited for the year Higgins looks like he is going to have.

I see Higgins is out again (soreness)..... Bulldogs have already had a bye. Probably out for a few weeks in other words.

How could you chose Higgins when he is obviously not up to playing an entire season of football?

Are you that obsessed that you need to bump this thread just to put down Higgins?

He'll be back next week. Copped a heavy knock late in the Freo game and is just a little sore. Your "a few weeks out" comment is completely out of line and is simply you just talking crap.

As for your second question- this thread was started quite some time ago. Since then Thomas has gone ahead.

That is not a knock on either player- Higgins nearly won the Dogs the game on Monday. He is a very good player and you'd have to be stupid not to acknowledge that.

Just proving my point that he is the most overated player in the AFL.

He was absolutely rank in the first half last week from all reports, very good players aren't constantly out and playing good in only parts of games.

He was miles infront of Thomas at the start of the year.......

And you keep proving that you should stick to GD because footy knowledge isn't your strong point.

Thomas by a mile

What exactly did I say wrong?

Read your own board, nearly everyone said he was a dud in the first half last week, couldn't hit a target.

Meant to be an elite player, I haven't seen it nor has anyone else that isn't a Bullfrogs fan.

He isn't meant to be an elite player.
He is meant to be a young promising player with the potential to turn into an elite player.

Potential is a dirty word.

He is 23 now, the whole being young thing is coming to an end very very quickly.

It's time for him to deliver.

He's about even on output with Marc Murphy. What are your thoughts on Murphy?

Well then, you would of noticed.

Murphy has been better stats wise since the beginning of both their careers. Even the year Higgins was apparently a star Murphy was still better stats wise except for goals. Murphy came into the AFL being basically the number one midfielder at the club, getting tagged, having all the attention, Higgins had a lot more experienced bodies around him and still couldn't manage to stay on the park.

How you could say they are about even is beyond comprehension, how can you say that when Murphy has played 40 odd more games?

Murphy has delivered while Higgins has 'potential' :o

Murphy was a #1 draft pick. He has a slight edge in stats which you'd expect given he's been playing second fiddle to Judd who gets all the attention. Over his career he averages 6 more touches a game than Higgins. Nothing to say he is clearly ahead. They are about even.

Murphy certainly has not delivered much yet. He has potential just like Higgins.
