??
What we did last year was fine

If you bothered to actually look at what we have on our list then you'd know we are fine, especially with 3 more first round picks this year.
Richmond back you to a corner and Carlton bounce, this year's draft is very compromised from pick 4-5 and supposedly weak compared to last year's and you have the Hawks and not Carlton 1st rounders this year. A stuff up even became bigger, why do you think the CEO had to "explain" the trade????

Richmond didnt back us into a corner, our ******ed list manager did that on his own.
At the time it looked very questionable, but we got the guy we wouldve taken at pick 14 with pick 30 anyway(no idea why Richmond ignored the best KPF in the draft pool and took 3 lesser KPFs lol), and we added Baker.

This year we should have 2 of the top 3 picks(before it gets very compromised) plus a later first rounder, yes its not as good as last years draft but the draft is not that bad lol.
The Victorian majority media generally rushes to call a draft weak if the vic players arent that good. The SA talent in particular is very strong this year

You are smoking too much Copium. Carlton is a very big chance of finishing 15th so West Coast would have had pick 1, 2 and 5 which would have made the trade last year reasonable. It was a shit trade because everyone expected both the Hawks and Carlton to be up there this year and now it's even shitter trade.

The carlton vs hawks pick thing doesnt matter.
If we end up with pick 12-14ish plus a couple of later picks for Barrass we arent losing on that trade 🤣

I still don't get your logic. In fact, I see it the other way
We HAVE to spend money to make that cap, right? Right now with potentially the loss of Oscar Allen, the confirmed loss of Jeremy McGovern and not getting Chad Warner, we'd be lucky to make the 95% cap at all, thus we can afford to artifically overpay players more than Adelaide can who have to fit a plethora of prime age and emerging stars into the list.
Agreed. It's simple.
If you add up the salaries of the Crows players and the WC players, the Crows would be millions more than WC. WC would be front ending most of their contracts at this stage. On top of that the way the AFL system works is that say WC only pays 90% of their cap space, then the difference between actual spend and required spend gets evenly distributed to the players on their list. It's a bonus which disappears when they increase their cap spend with more expensive players.
They still have that cap space there to pay for new players, and it just means the existing players dont get that free money bonus like they did before.

looked the goods on the weekend. played very, very well.

i'm not sure about best in the comp, but he'll be up there.

If you are only paying 90% in a year since that is the quality of your list, you just bring forward 5% of the payments for next year to hit the floor.

85% to pay the next, bring forward another 10% to hit the floor, no free money for players. You have then made a 10-15% hole you can use to recruit with while banking 5% a year for the future.

Bottom teams can easily pay the most, still doesn’t help them get superstars though as premierships are more enjoyable than a bit more money when you are already rich.

You can do that over a 2 year period. Clubs will start to front end all their contracts to stay over the minimum %, then they will even it out after a couple of years, then if they still dont meet the minimum spend, the amount of money they are under by has to be paid to the players outside of their contracts.
Well, that's how I remember it been explained to me.

It was a pretty stacked draft if you look back

Reid, McKercher, Walter, Watson, Sanders, Curtin, Caddy, O'Sullivan, Morris, Freijah, Dear

All probably have claims on being a top 3 player in that draft. Bit too early to tell though
Not bad at all. We still have Edwards from that draft in the seconds and he has been tearing the SANFL up, but can't get a game with the current first 22 in form.

Who are these top 3?
I could probably name 5 that have looked better than him already, Morris, Caddy, Watson, Reid, Freijah.

Then there’s also Wilson, Windsor, Sanders and O’Sullivan who all currently get the ball more than Curtin does.

Interesting. Don't even know which team he plays for. I imagine either Melbourne, Hawthorn, Adelaide or Fremantle

Well, the OP does say in 5 years lol. Slow start but rapidly moving up to the top rank in the draft.
Is he really though? He averages 11 disposal a game.

I get that he tore it up against one of the worst sides in the comp, but he’s still behind quite a few.

This is why you wouldn't make a talent scout. You never judge a young player on how many disposals he has got, you judge him by how he gets his disposals and what he does with it when he uses the ball.

If you couldn't see the absolute elite traits he has after watching Sundays game, well that's on you. There's a reason all the football community is fawning over him.
He is 197cms tall. He is an excellent contested mark. He has very good foot skills. He kicks goals. And he is quick, as shown by this run through the middle from a standing start and an elite delivery to Thilthorpe from 45 out.

People are looking at his skill set and his physical attributes and saying, damm, if this kid kicks on he is going to be a freak.
