Personally I cant see the value in hanging on to Browne.
They guy fully fit wont get a place in our side unless we are destroyed by injury and even then he would be struggling.

Too many short people running around in the middle as it is, Woods has more value IMHO.

I'm happy Browne has been given another contract. He may not be tall but he's quick and tenacious. Peake, Dodd and Crowley have moved ahead of him but that doesn't mean he doesn't have something to offer.

Woods was a waste of space on our list this year. He would have been a regular in the side this year if he showed some commitment to training considering the injury run we had, but he struggled to get a kick at WAFL level. Although he has plenty of talent, his heart clearly isn't in footy and the club will be making a mistake if he is on our list next season.

I'd prefer to have Browne in the side giving 100% rather than Woods cruising around in 2nd gear.

Cant find any comment about Gilmore.

So for those elswhere in the world and dont know, he signed up for two years today.

Indicates to me Fremantle have the belief he can make it.

Good move imo.

Im very surprised Gilmore has signed on, its well known that he and CC dont see eye to eye on anything.

Warren promotion is very odd to me, I dont think he will make it, he really stuggled in the WAFL until the final series, I cant see him getting a game...

Gilmore signing for two years is understandable. Being offered two years in the first place is a bit from left field.

Good luck to him. He has 2006 now to make his mark and push for an extension before 2007.

As for warren. I have no idea. He has the build and height that any team would want. If he has skills, a brain and some mongrel then he too could become a carreer footballer.

Browne is a direct competitor to Peake, and has slightly more size and ferocity at the ball going for him. Browne is one of those players who makes a contest every time he gets near the pill, and I'd guess is tops in the 1%'ers whenever he plays.

You couldn't ever say that about Dion even at his peak(e).

The list as it stands today (28/10/05) - to the best of my knowledge re length on contracts - others may be able to fill in some gaps:

Main List:
1. Bell (?)
2. Black (2007)
3. Browne (2006)
4. Campbell (2008 - ?)
5. JCarr (2008)

12. Farmer (2007)
13. Gilmore (2007)
14. Grover (2006)
15. Haddrill (?)
16. Haines (uncontracted)
17. Hasleby (2007)
18. Hayden (2006)
19. Headland (?)
20. Johnson (2007)
21. Longmuir (2009)
22. McManus (2006 - eligible for Vets list)
23. McPharlin (2007)

32. Stribling (2006)
33. Thornton (?)
34. Walker (2007)
35. Warren (rookie elevation - prob 2 year contract? - ie 2007)
36. Webster (uncontracted)
37. Woods (uncontracted)

Vets:
Parker (uncontracted - ?)

Rookies:
1. Duffield (2 years - elevate or delist)
2. Krieger (1 year)
3. Juniper (1 year)

Delisted:
Smith
Siegert

The club needs to trim the main list down to 35. They could move Macca to the Vets list - making the number 36. Then there'd only be one more to go and by all accounts it certainly seems it'll be Woods. There's the 35. If they want to elevate Duffield - which CC has indicated that they will - then one more needs to go. It's unlikely to be Cookie, which means the choice will come down to Webster or Haines. Monday is the day for the first list lodgement - I believe they must have trimmed the main list down to 35 by then, although they can still make further adjustments after that prior to the National Draft next month.

It's now official
Dylan Smith, Dion Woods, Andrew Siegert and Toby Stribling are gone.
Crowley and Warren to the main list.
Macca to the Veterans list.
I guess this means that Duffield is gone too.
Fremantle will utilise selections 10, 26, and 42 at this year’s AFL National Draft.

Well, if I had waited another 30 mins I might have saved myself some time on that effort!

So young Stribling is gorn - if he was contracted for two years, the club will have to pay him out, yes? And it will be counted towards the TPP for this year, correct?

I would have thought Siegert = Haines = Webster... all with something to offer... wonder why Siegs was the unlucky one? A Vic? More likely to get another opportunity in Melb?

Shame really. I liked Ziggy.

Is there still scope for Duff to be upgraded; if they chop someone else? Or maybe they'll pick him up with their last pick in the draft. Seems a good sort for Souths, and CC certainly has mentioned that all three of the rookie guys (Crowley, warren and Duffield) would be upgraded. Wait and see now.

Stribbling only given one year??
Thats a bit rough

Does this all mean we are going to be using a pick in the Pre season draft?
Guess the 35 limit meant that harsh decisions had to be made.
I think it means that we are very UNLIKELY to have a pick in the PSD. Surely we wouldn't pass at #42.

I guess either Duff or Stribling could be drafted in the national or rookie drafts... but with 2 veterans and assuming we keep both Freddie Kreiger and JJJuniper, that's only 2 rookie spots left.

It's tough when you don't have any retirements... it means you have to hack at your fringe players... and the danger is has injury/coaching style/luck/attitude prevented them from showing their true potential and will they do so elsewhere?

I thought a drafted player had to be retained for 2 seasons unless there were extraordinary circumstances (ie Lawrence Angwin). Obviously I'm wrong.

Campbell is contracted to 2006 I think IP. Polak is contracted for 1 more season like you said. I thought JLo signed for 4 seasons and Murphy and Mundy for 3 seasons at the start of the year, so JLo would have 3 to go and M&M 2 more seasons? Dunn contracted until 2008 is a concern if he struggles next year like he has for his 1st two.

Warren had a very good WAFL season in 2004. Had a couple of injuries this year but finished the season strongly. Seems a natural defender and a handy addition to the list and will be ready to play if required next season. A good decision by the club IMHO as he also has the upper body strength which Polak and Thornton don't currently possess.

Spot on. Warren would have played this year if He hadn't snapped a fetlock I reckon. He was promoted of the Rookie list before Killer Crowley was but got injured almost immediately.

He really impressed in the preseason game in Alice springs IIRC.

Overall it is hard to be to critical with the delistings/promotions.

Good luck and thank-you to Dion , Dylan , Ziggy & Toby.

i am surprised to hear stribling was delisted.
maybe we will put him on the rookie list
does anyone know what happened to duffield

Today marks the closure of the 2005 season. Now we are well and truly tracking to 2006.

The guys who are still in the team should be jumping out their skin for pre season to start.

Just read on DL that Cookie signed a one year deal today. Year by year for him now - reckon they're probably easing him towards (enforced??) retirement at the end of 2006; 2007 at the latest.

Yes it is probably cookies last season. as much as I love the guy I dont think he is in our best 22 next year

Also if Duffield has been delisted he will be picked up by someone else. He is all class IMO
hope we can somehow get him on the main list

Agreed - I think we've made a HUGE mistake here. Hopefully we're planning on picking him up with pick 42 in the draft (but I doubt they will)...I'm +'ve another club will though. I rate him ahead of Warren as a defender, & although Warren has the size I think he took a step backwards this year in his development.

IMO I would have much rather of upgraded all 3 (Warren, Duffield & Crowley), & delisted another 2 players (Schofield & Haines) & had a chance to draft someone in the PSD...& if noone available to our liking redrafted Schofield or Haines or Woods.

I don't know Rob - I think that although the perception is still there, the reality is that they are not physically soft, but perhaps just need to toughen up mentally. Some of the young guys like Dodd, Crowley and Murphy don't mind it a bit rough, and guys like the Carrs, Blackie, Grover, Bellie, Hase and Big Aaron don't mind chucking their weight around and sticking up for themselves or their team-mates. That said, I reckon Cookie is the only one who has total reckless abandon with regards to his own safety (although Bellie might argue with me after his clash with Judd), and the fact that he has been so bloody durable over his career is pretty amazing. I reckon he is worth his weight in gold, but I also believe he is going to have to keep up the standards he set in 2005 to keep getting a game each week. I don't reckon he'd be uder any illusions about that either. He's a smart bloke our Cookie.
