Did Carlton made the right decision choosing Voss over Ross?

Nope Voss struggled at Brisbane so no surprise he is struggling at Carlton

They have a top 4 list with 2 Coleman medalists and they struggle

Flip a coin on who is the best coach in the AFL Lyon or Clarkson. Lyon has had the worst injury list this season and has produced.

Yes, Ross didn't want to go through the application process. It would be pretty negligent for an organisation to hire an individual who thinks they are above the club's processes.
Hmm not sure about that. If you have a CV that is well known then does he really need to come in and do PPT presentations and what not? Many clubs hire the person that does the best interview doesn’t mean they will be the best coach…

It's about the attitude. If someone considers themselves above due process then how can you trust them to follow due process when it comes to other things like player health and safety.

Think about it this way - Russell Crowe doesn't audition for roles. They come to him and say "Russ we want you for this role"

When someone has a proven track record making them go through the whole dog and pony show is actually an insult. Sayers had the right approach - until his board got worried someone like Ross would take away all their power.

Not necessarily.

These coaches are made to present their game plans to the committee. They have to share all their IP as to what makes them the best coach - what their point of difference is and how it will allow them to beat other teams with other AFL coaches.

How many times has Scott Burns presented his IP? If he had something that was different, it is now well-known and can be implemented by 5-6 clubs.

Why should Ross Lyons, having a blueprint for success rolling around n his head, present it to the Blues board? He is not a rookie coach trying to demonstrate his tactical (game day) and strategic (premiership) nouse. He is a known entity, they should interview him over lunch, get to know him, see if they can work with him, and see what he thinks of the list.

Getting him to do a presentation like a rookie coach - yes he's above it.

Caveat - this is from the perspective of hindsight - now we know he had a plan - I didn't have an opinion at the time. This whole thread is the same, so if you didn't have an opinion before, you should be too hard on the wrong decision later.

The other thing I would add though is that Voss looked like a millionaire last year, Lyon could equally drop off after his honeymoon.

On the topic, I'd say give Voss more time (they have to anyway), he can still get this team going - might need some speed in the midfield though.

I think they did.
Ross has a terrible style which really discourages people from enjoying the game. Defensive minded, slow monotonous approach. And while he gets teams into contention, it's the same old story against teams who can both defend well and score 100 points from week to week.

Voss seems like a nice bloke but is a dimwit.
Lyon is sharp but ultimately destroys your club, look at the state he left Freo .
Pick your poison.
Freo seemed like they were in a pretty good position when he left?

He took the most of the way through a rebuild, had them flying through half way mark of his last year before injuries hit then got the sack

They seemed in great shape last year but some strange recruitment calls and some really poor coaching has them in a pickle now

Last year was their first finals appearance since 2015 and that looks like blip on the radar, they are back to being a rabble. However I was more referencing the off field side of things like allegedly sexual harassing his own staff and then freo paying hush money to keep it quite... if that's the kind of bloke you want leading the culture of your club fine, you might have a bit more success than Vossy but at what cost to the fabric of the club.
