Am i very serious when i say this, i would not trade Pendlebury for murphy and gibbs.

Pendles is still on the improve, this year was his tackling, next year somthing new again. Murphy has been playing all his life, Scott about 5 years.

So i think murphy is about as good as he will ever be, pendles will keep getting better and better.

I think a more fair comparison is Swan VS Murphy.

You wouldn't swap Pendles for Murph and Gibbs? It dumb ass comments like that that give Collingwood supporters a bad name.

Neither are blessed with spectacular pace, and both are improving their games - Murphy's kicking seems to be improving all the time, and Pendlebury's attack at the ball and at the man (when appropriate) is improving as his body and fitness get stronger.

I never thought Murphy as a particularly quick player however in round 1 this year Channel 10 had their GPS gadgets on a few players and it impressed me.

The quickest player measured (and by this I assume they mean top speed) was Fevola who reached about 32-33 kmh. Murphy was second at around 31 kmh and I think in 4th position was Foley at around 27-28kmh.

I always thought Foley was super quick especially compared to Murphy. It was quite an eye opener.

Since then I have noticed this year that there have been many times when Murphy has really turned on the afterburners and separated from his pursuer. One that comes to mind was a great goal he kicked against Melbourne where he took on two players turned inside and slotted it through.

I guess having Judd and Stevens around has freed him up a bit and his body isn't getting beaten up as much this year.

While not a sublime kick of the ball, he is above average IMHO and makes good decisions.

Hardly above average, that would imply he has good foot disposal. I saw the Geelong match and his field kicking & inability to hit targets was laughable.

I've seen players with better footskills running around in B Grade VAFA.

if i could get one person from carlton it would be him (besides fev),, love him as a player and will one day be a champion of the game.

Pendles probably has a lot more of the ball and a better player atm skill wise etc but both are young and look foward to seeing them grow as time goes on.

murphy over judd hmmmmmmm interesting thoughts might be in the minority there

todays game showed that the proverbial gap is narrowing very very quickly between the two. go blues! and bad luck to the pies

Murphy played very well today, probably BOG.

Pendlebury wasn't 100% though, so not a great time to compare them - I don't think I saw him break out of a jog all day.

Murphy showed today why he is the best of the 2005 draft. His work in close has gone to another level as of late. He mightn't have the skills of Pendlebury, but around the contests he is brilliant - and his ability to evade and break tackles, and poise when surrounded by opposition players, was on display today at the 'G. Won the ball when he shouldn't have through sheer effort and persistence. :thumbsu:

talent means nothing if you can't prove it in the biggest home and away game of the year for the pies. pendlebury and thomas both were both useless and murphy was probably the difference, a true star steps up against collingwood and shows them how it's done. go murph, i don't care what no collingwood supporter says you are easily the best from that draft.

lol. Not even close. Pendlebury was injured, and Thomas had a shocker. It happens.

pendlebury was very close to playing last week so there's no excuses for this week, every player carries an injury. an plus he didn't look injured to me the dozen or so times he got the ball on the wing 100 metres clear of everyone else on the field.

Hmm, a tough, physical encounter where teams had to dig deep.

Murphy - 31 disposals, 6 marks, 8 tackles
Pendlebury - 19 disposals, 5 marks, 4 tackles

Pendlebury could be a great player but where was he today? Murphy stood up when he had to - Pendlebury (though not to the same degree as Dale Thomas) did nothing.

Pendelbury played today , therefore he was fit to play. They say Judd is still injured but he still is in the best week in week out. Pendles and Thomas were not up to standard today. Murphy played one of the best allround games i have ever seen him play today.

Thought Pendlebury was very weak yesterday. Lots of soft outside receives and ordinary disposal. He was in the same draft as Murph, but is lightyears behind Murph in terms of talent and development. Was plainly obvious to anyone who watched the game. :)

I feel sorry for Pendlebury, if it requires him to be 100% to break out of a jog. He will have a tough time playing AFL football, what player is playing 100%?

I still think both teams should be very happy with their selections, of course, I am biased and think Murphy is a better player.

Pendleburys performance yesterday shouldnt be judged harshly as he was obviously still carrying a back injury that forced him to miss the Melbourne match.

Two different midfielders in a sense. Murphy, is a player that racks the possessions up, a bit like a Dane Swan. They get plenty of the footy. Pendleburys more a low 20 touch possession player but everything he does with it is effective and constructive. He doesnt rely on 30 touches to be a standout.

maybe it was because the subject of this thread was tearing the pies a new one and someone needed to stop him??
Excuse me? Shaw had him in his pocket till he was mvoed off him. Wasn't on him for the entire final term, he went to Murphy :)

So no, incorrect, I guess Malthouse rated Murphy as more dangerous.
