Do we trade egan?

No, not yet. In saying that, Mick Malthouse and Brad Gotch aren't doing him any favours at the moment. Jarrod Molloy mentioned his "lack of intensity". He was kept in the back-line for 3 and a half quarters, and he is clearly an attacking wingman/half-forward. He won't make it as a half-back at the highest level.

Brad Dick has now made his name at Collingwood. Its fair to say Egan hasn't thus far.

Coin toss, i reckon the only reason Gotch and MM are playing hime off the HBF is to teach Ego some defensive skills required when playing forward or mid. MM is not dumb, he is working on egan to be a very good utility!

How do you figure that?

Egan has played half a dozen games as good or better than Dick's on Friday night - People have just been against Egan from day one.

Classic example was in the VFL game on the weekend, when he was lackadaisically running the ball out of the backline, slowly jogging until he drew the man, at which point he fed the handpass to a teammate, who ran a few steps and hit the forward on the chest.

After this bit of play, the commentators start criticising him for being in 2nd gear, and saying they'd like to see him put the after burners on...

What? Am I the only one who saw that and thought that he did the right thing? Just because a guy is laconic in style doesn't mean that he is doing something wrong. Later on when the situation called for it, he didn't hesitate to fire up the jets and run away from an opponent, but in that case, he was right to do what he did.

It might seem frustrating to watch him not be working hard 100% of the time, but the fact is, he's talented enough that at VFL level, he doesn't have to. He was ALWAYS going to be the type of player who plays harder at AFL level than VFL level, and for the most part, this has been reflected to this point.

Try asking Hawthorn for a trade for Lewis. Another MM exercise in list management terrorism.
How do you figure? There is literally a ZERO percent chance that we would have drafted Jordan Lewis.

Surely trading the pick would only be relevant if we missed out on somebody that we actually might have picked, like the Roach/Pavlich disaster.

Even Matthew Bate went after Egan, he would have been nice :(
Just said that in the other thread ;)

I rated Bate extremely highly in that draft - I would have drafted him in a heartbeat. I remember getting excited when the Burgatron had us picking him - I was living in hope.

Still, it's way too early to make a call on a kid who was supposed to be too skinny to play any football in his first season.

The Egan's a dud bandwagon ran out of steam in the last part of 2006 when he started to have a real impact on games. He hasn't played a game this year but the dogs are barking again.

He is a good mark, accurate shot for goal and is exceptional by hand. Trading him would be a massive mistake.

Trading down the order for a dud is just stupid. Morrison was just another example of MM recruiting a player with skills we didn’t need and deficiencies we already had. I don’t know what we passed up by downgrading the pick. More to the point neither did we when we did the deal.

He has talents and I don't want us trade him for a decent ruckman. He has year ahead of him only 20. It's shame if we traded him but if we did trade he'll prob end up at Hawthorn or more than likely Essendon as Sheedy has a thing for aboriginal players.

Unbelievable!!! I cannot believe people are writing off Egan. His last half of 2006 was outstanding. He had a 22 possession 2 goal game against West Coast the eventual premiers. Bobbed up each week with goals in (15 mainly in the last 8 games when he came back in). I'm a wrap for the kid. Has what most of our team does not......speed and kicking ability.

What's more...I can't believe Brad D*** has supposedly stamped his name at Collingwood. One game - against Richmond!!!! Richmond!!! It was great to watch but almost irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

Must stick with Egan. Injury has interrupted his start to this season. He will come good

Collingwood; In- Jamie Charman / Out- Chris Egan

Brisbane; In- Chris Egan / Out- Jamie Charman

I like that...

Egan for Cameron Wood - yes.
Egan for Charman - no.

I am happy to wait on Chris Egan, he's a talent and almost all Aboriginal players take longer to hit their straps. He was a rake when he came to the club. He is definitely an outside player, most likely a wingman-cum-HFF, whereas Brad Dick could play inside in a few years with more weight on. Dick's intensity is fantastic, he's going to be our best #44 pick for a long time.

His last half of 2006 was outstanding.
That is a huge exaggeration. I reckon the WCE game was very good. No other VERY good games. A couple ok ones. Some passable ones. Still fluffs far too many kicks. He may well develop into a very damaging player. He may not though. The jury has to be out still. We are waiting for potential to develop and I have seen a heck of a lot of waiting at Collingwood.

Sounds alot like the 1997 number 1 draft pick to me.
And I would have him in our side in a heartbeat.
His name is Travis Johnstone.

What on Earth's the hurry all of a sudden to get rid of Egan? Have we overstepped our quota of aboriginal players or something? I mean, I'm not convinced about him either, but we need to see how he goes this year first. He has some good qualities.

Leave him alone and let him play. Gee. His played 20 odd games. Let him forge a career before you beat him up.

Atleast we are developing a team with a bit of a change to what we have had in the past 10 years. We have been a team full of hard working in and under players, based around players like Licuria, Burns, O'Bree and Lockyer. And now we're building an exciting looking team around players like Thomas, Didak, Pendlebury, Dick, Egan, Shaw and O'Brien who like to run and take blokes on and deliver something special every now and then. Just let it happen.

He's a shocking kick

So is Matt Richardson and he has kicked 700 goals. Go figure. Weird hey.

Ryan Lonie is a beautiful kick of the footy.

How would you compare the success of Richardson and Lonie.
