....that hit he received from Ben Johnson towards the end of last year?

Its easy to sit back and say why should it have done, but head injuries can have long lasting mental impacts, past the point of when the player is fit to return to the field.

His confidence looks shot and the attack on the ball that he used to give us each week doesn't quite seem to be there. Is he still a bit worried about copping another hit?

At least he re grouped after quater time and had a go. Should STILL BE BANNED FROM KICK OUTS.

I didn't see the first quarter, but I actually thought he played pretty well in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. Okay in the fourth too, other than the kick-out mishap.

It seems as if taking kick-out in horrific fashion is the new black at Melbourne. The whole team is terrible at it, especially with Wheatley out of the side. At least he can roost it long if nothing else.

Thats why i want davey in the backline. He uses the ball so well and would beat anyone playing on out of the goal square after a behind.

I don't mind your idea actually. I can see him as a P. Burgoyne type in defence. He wouldn't be grat in 1-on-1's though, but hopefully he could avoid that most of the time with his pace and mobility. So, yeah, your idea is quite interesting and certainly has some merit.

Chris Johnson should be able to kick-in well with some more experience though, he has pretty good foot skills. Another big issue is Melbourne setting-up better to assist the player kicking-in, they don't provide enough options in my opinion.

We haven't had anyone decent kicking out since Febey retired

There's no reason why Davey couldn't kick in while playing on a wing. Obviously he'll be too far away sometimes, but if he's there i think he's a good option, he should play on every time the options are shit and at least he should be able to run to 30m before kicking it.

But he's not accountable enough to actually play in defence, as you said he'd get towelled up in 1 on 1's and you can't rely on him using pace to avoid them because they're always going to happen when you are in the back half

It's true, bad head injuries mess you up. I've been knocked out in footy 12 times and after the 12th one I noticed a change. It wasn't a concsious change in my play or attack on the ball but it seems sub concsiously my body refuses to run hard through the pack with my head down scooping the ball up. Before a game I say I'm going to start doing it again but it just doesn't seem to happen. Then you start doubting your self and other parts of your game start deteriorating due to lack of confidence.
