Review Does the MFC board need an additional Mod?

Hi MFC supporters,

Just want to say at the outset this is not an indictment on our mod’s directly or any form of disparagement but, for whatever reason they are unable to fulfill their duties moderation on the board currently & if real life get busy that’s completely fair. I have spoken to a couple of other posters on this board & they also think it’s a good subject to put up for discussion.

Most of the other team boards have three mod’s, some four (four due to larger traffic I imagine) & I think it would serve our board well with the increased traffic recently & the penchant some have for trolling, to appoint another mod to ease the workload & time required by each mod.

I have mentioned I would be willing to step up & take it on if required as I have the time & opportunity to assist with providing the services required by a mod. You may also like to express you interest so that if it is decreed that another mod is required for our board, the mod’s or admin are aware of your interest.

I have started an open poll to get the general consensus of whether our posters think we need another mod or if we are happy with the current two we have.

Can I ask that no supporters from other club vote in this poll please? Can I also ask that posters who do not support Melbourne refrain from posting unless they have something really constructive to say?

I don’t want this thread to be negative I just want to give the powers that be an idea of where the Melbourne supporters are at in regards to our board, so lets keep the focus positive guys.

So what are your thoughts?

I don't know about others, but I could hardly be bothered using this board over pre-season due to all of the trolls and other assorted displays of stupidity, so yeah, I think we definitely need another mod.

I think Marns and Deestroy are game enough to admit it if they feel they don't have the time/energy to moderate the board.

If they see this and feel it might be true, then yeh we probably do need one more.

If not, then no, I don't think the trolling has been too bad. The Scully stuff was inevitable, wouldn't matter how many mods we had.

Don't want to sound out the mods because they have been here for a long time but put it this way, 3 is better than 2. I think it would help improve how the board is run and monitored.

Plus since I joined (early 07) this board is a lot more busier than back then, when it was pretty much a ghost town...

That exactly what I see for the future of the board too, over the last two years it has picked up & a number who joined a while ago have started posting again. I also think as we improve onfield the inclination to post on this board will increase too. Good times ahead for this board I think.

Voted no. TBH, compared to some other forums i've been on, this forum (and its trolls) are pretty tame. Pretty simple, if you don't want to read a whole lot of crap, don't open that thread.

But if the consensus is another mod, i'm happy for CA to be offered the position. Would be a good mod i think.

We don't know what constraints the current 2 mods are under and I appreciate the work they have done. The board has probably changed over the last 3 or 4 yrs I've been here and a 3rd mod now IMO is a good idea. Locality of mods is important, time zones and all that so a 3rd mod would probably compliment the current mods.

As far as trolls go I'd be telling porkies if I said I didn't laugh at some of the silly stuff. The problem however is the frequency of accounts/aliases that dilute genuine poster comments. The odds of getting into a false discussion with a troll on this board are way too high - it has become a spam board. Some of the trolls are genuinely funny but most just make the board pointless.

We also sponsor a player now so it would be nice if this board wasn't a complete pea-nut gallery.

I think CA would do a good job, so he gets my vote if such a vote goes ahead.

I dont mind some of the banter as long as its funny - its things like not having the badges ready for player sponsorship, and not replying to PM's that say to me the current guys need some more support.

I dont mind who takes it on - as long as they have a sense of humour and let some of the banter go through.

Happy with that approach but I think we're saying we would also like a bit more presence from a mod around here.

Duritz thread trolling Jack Watts is a good example - I dont mind that it ran on because there was some fun banter in there. But the presence of a mod in the thread would have been nice.

I have had limited access for the last couple of months which should be changing soon. On the topic of an extra mod Marns and I are discussing it and are in agreeance it would be a positive addition. As you may have noticed from the lack of player sponsorship badge things above can be slow moving, so we will start that process soon.
