I'm not usually one to spread rumour and scuttlebutt ...
... But I will anyway.
Little known fact, but behind the scenes at Collingwood in 2012 there was a terrible silent war being waged inside the then Westpac Centre.
Forget Malthouse versus McGuire, that paled into insignificance compared with the bloodbath being waged inside the Collingwood locker rooms: The war of the Bens.
It was the incumbents (Reid, Sinclair and Johnson) versus the new guard (Hudson, Richmond, Broomhead, with Kennedy as sub)
This silent war took a terrible toll on Collingwood, from which the club continues to reel from to this very day. Hudson and Richmond were early casualties for the new guard, being forced to retire and be delisted after only a single season. Injuries plagued Bromhead for years, and Kennedy was subbed into the fray.
These early victories to the incumbents came at a heavy toll with Johnson going into retirement, and injury curses plaguing Sinclair and Reid for the next three seasons.
Incumbents 2 : new guard 1
Sometime along the way Broomhead surrendered his name and changed it to Tim. It's the only chance he had of survival.
Incumbents 3 : new guard 1
War continued until the end of the 2015 season when Kennedy admitted defeat and was banished off to Melbourne. Thus signalled total capitulation of the new guard Bens.
Final Score: Incumbents 4 : new guard 1
Now with the war over, the veterans have rehabilitated and are flourishing. Reid and Sinclair are doing well.
Tim Broomhead is starting to get back after being forced to pay heavy reparations.
But will this peace be only shortlived? A new Ben has now arrived .. Ben Crocker!!
