The only comment i have to make is that crisley or whatever seems to think that the because thomas played a one-off blinder in the grandfinal he is inconsistant! To me it is the mark of a champion, to be able to dominate teh most improtant game of the year and to give your best when you are expected to give your most is an amazing quality. To me in terms of his qualities (courage work ethic and consistancy) he is like burns! awesome!

I had my concerns with Ellis as all the I have heard about him is that he is an outside receiver - that is the last thing we need - we need tough inside players who are going to get the ball and that is what they seam to have gone out and got with out first 4 picks and then gone for a key position defender with out 5th and passed on our last pick to see what comes up in the PSD, perfect I think!

Pretty happy with the first two picks. From what I've read and heard, Thomas and Pendlebury can play next year. I've been a massive wrap for the latter for a while now, so I'm happy we got him.

Not sure about the others, I'll have to do some reading about them.

Why is it idiotic? Have you seen them play? I bet you were saying we did well after 02 and 03 as well. Remember, this is us we are talking about, we always stuff up with recruiting.
Also, there goes our plans to get travis baird in the pre-season draft- he's off to the dogs. We'll probably redraft Matt Lokan knowing us. I hope we can put Davidson on the rookie list and I think we should take a punt on Cupido or Guerra- at least with Cupido, we know he has talent and Guerra will always give a contest.
Yes, I have seen them play. All of them. Admittedly I've only seen Anthony once, and Stanley twice, but I've seen a fair bit of Thomas, Pendlebury and Cook. Even Cook, the one of our draftees that I'm the least convinced about, has more talent than anyone picked up in 02 and 03 (aside from father son selections)

And how big a deal is Travis Baird anyway? A kid that got delisted from a non-finals team's rookie list? Give me a break. You're just grasping at straws to be unhappy.

The question is was Pendlebury worth pick waisting pick 5 on and will the next 5 players below him be better.

Cook is a strange selection and Anthony is another huge risk.

Lets hope they do something or its going to be very embarracing.

Almost as embarrassing as your spelling :p

Cook is strange, but will fill a need for us in the coming years.

Anthony is not nearly as huge a risk as you make it sound. He's a good kick, a solid defender and very quick for his size - a sub 3 second 20m at state screening.

As for Pendlebury - He's the most physically talented midfielder in the draft, without doubt. He's also not a bad player. In such an even draft, he is as good a player as anybody.

I'm suprised so few people seem to know anything about him, despite the fact that he is a teammate of Ellis and Thomas.

If we have a good run with injuries I wouldn't expect many games out of our draftees

Thomas - too skinny, bulking up should be his main priority so he's a chance in 07. Maybe throw him a game or two near the end of the year to keep him hungry

Pendlebury - give him a few games if he is going okay mid year, has the build to play if need be

Stanley - might be a chance because he is already well built, but I think he will be down the pecking order a bit for a HBF role. Perhaps see what he can do in the middle in VFL?

Cook - deffo VFL all year

Anthony - prove he can hold down a CHB/FB spot in VFL then perhaps 07 get a game

I guess I'm happy with our selections. Very angry we didn't take Hurn at pick #5 when avalible. Extremely happy for Ryan Cook, I've played a few games with him, very good player who should serve us well off a flank.

Hopefully we get the white Pickett in the pre season draft. Or give Woewodin another chance, I don't care.

From what I understand, you have Greg Beck helping now with your recruitment. For your sakes, I hope this isn't true, because Beck butchered our last 10 drafts. Beck made the famous decision of Fiora before Pavlich.

If you have got Beck on board, then I would very very worried.

I am very happy with the Draft picks especially Danny Stanley, Dale Thomas Scott Pendlebury. They said on the AFL site John Anthony is a Jimmy Clement type! I think you will find Travis Baird went to the Bulldogs pick 46. I am looking forward to 2006 with anticipation of Top 4.

dont understand the fuss over the draft

pies biggest issue is the midfield

balme, MM said they would draft mids

first three picks are all midfielders, more importantly different types tho

thomas, attacking goal kicker
pendels, tall athletic type
stnaley, more defensive inside

very happy as this is what the pies needed

in a few years the pies could have one of the better midfields goin around because of this draft

FFS some of you are morons who believe anything they read. Stop thinking about what kind of player Ellis will be and think about what Thomas will do. Ellis doesn't play for Collingwood, I don't care about him. I don't give a flying f*** if Ellis turns out to be a great player as long as Thomas is just as good, if not better. Let's not turn this into another Judd/Hodge thing (IF X-El turns out better than Thomas).
