My only concern around our list management strategy is that its anchored to a particular mini game style. So we need to be confident mini will here for a while otherwise we could be in a whole world of hurt.
Strong, agressive transition players with power and speed is what mini seems to be favouring, that really covers all bases for a lot of game plans imo, but most importantly its how the modern game is trending for all the good sides.

Imo the game will reach a point eventually where a "best game plan" is found, and clubs will just look to optimise that as much as possible.
This might be it

Wow - You lot really get excited over 4cm.

Does it really make that much of a difference...CDT is never going to be a first ruck.
He'll be a Blicavs style utility, never will be a first ruck, even if he's now 204cm.
at 204cm hes not undersized anymore, if his leap was just outside the top 10 at the combine like ive seen mentioned a few times then hes got all the weapons to be a very good number 1 ruckman

Hes a more athletic TDK, more than worthy of a pick 2 selection.

If he was still 200cm then being undersized would be a real concern for sure

How'd he go against other ruckman of his age that never getting drafted?

Smashed evey single time.

Yeah. A teammate saying he’s 204cm in an interview is hardly proof of his height.

I thought they took measurements at the combine. The truth is out there
this, he is not 204cm, was 200 at the combine a week ago, bit of exaggeration from a short player maybe:think:

The craft still isn't there though...Sure he could get better in this area. Enough to fill in as a 2nd ruck but I just don't see it being his primary role, no matter the height.

He doesnt need to be elite at tapwork, he just has to be ok at the hitout work while having the elite follow up we already know he has.

If he is 204cm with his athletic ability, he will figure it out

A more athletic TDK

Was he actually 200 at the combine though? I didnt think they released his height.

He was 200cm earlier in the year or whenever it was last done

I wasn't previously sold on him but if CTD is now 204cm, it's obvious he's still growing and will finish up closer to 210cm.

With his athletic profile I'd now be really disappointed if the club didn't take him.

1. Durrsma
2. CTD
13 --> trade up hard to see if we could get either Dyson or Cumming.

2026 look at hopefully getting Cochrane and then trade 2027 picks into 2026 to get another primo midfielder.

If we have another poor 2026 with less than 5 wins we'd be in line to receive at another priority pick like the Roos got which will be start if 1st round.

With the upcoming draft I have been trying to understand what Carlton is likely to do with its picks 9 & 11 and realised that they don't really need to do anything as they have plenty of capital next year now for Cody Walker.

As long as Dean isn't bid on with the top 6 picks (Pick 7 Match is 1,390pts and match at 9 with 1,355pts, not enough to drop pick 11 back to 12), they can just match with Pick 9 and then still take a top talent at 11 with enough points to match for Ison in the mid to late 20's. I still kind of hope North does get up for pick 9 off of them as they are more likely to target a key position player.

Melbourne is the only one I could see trying to get up for pick 2 to get in front for Robey, however likely only one of Sharp or Cumming to make it to 7 & 8.

It would give us 4 picks though in the top 13 though however I still think it is highly unlikely they would do that trade this year.

Did you watch the granny. There wasn't any speed transition in that first 3 quarters. It was pure inside contested clearance hard ball gets, on both sides. The cats elite transition runners in Holmes and smith barely impacted. I'm all for minis game plan, but it can't be successful unless we are winning at the coal face. We are 18th in the comp for contested, clearances and hard ball gets. Unless we address that the only elite running we will see is our players chasing tail all day

Real interesting thing with Carlton is that they genuinely might have a chance of getting both their picks in before a bid. As things stand, he's probably not gonna be bid on in the top 4, it's too high. Essendon have a bunch of key backs already, don't think they bid. Comes down to Melbourne - will they bid? Not familiar enough with their list to say. But if they don't, it's carlton's pick. Then hawks, who likely had to agree to not bid when they got that pick off Carlton. Then Carlton again at 11, which is actually at least 14 by then.

Might see Dean slipping to the mid teens and Carlton trading some future assets for points this year to match. If they walked away with, say, 2 of Schubert/Lindsay/Dovaston/Farrow and then a matched bid on Dean I think they'd have just about won the draft.

Those same aggressive, powerful players I mentioned are our coal face players too, you only read part of my description of the modern player.

We are last for contested ball because our midfield is so young, not because we have the wrong players.
Yes we may be missing a piece or 2 from our midfield that complements what we have, but what I described isnt incorrect

I can really see dovaston being taken by tigers or bombers.

Grjl Taylor is the consensus, but an elite 178cm small forward who played a lot as a midfielder in juniors would be high on tigers priority. They just drafted retchko who will go to the wing.

I took this actually as Duursma pumping Sharp up if anything. The other thing I took out of it is don’t take Philippou

Shows that the Phillipou arrogance runs in the family and probably comes from the parents. Yikes. Pity the any other sibling who doesn’t achieve that high a standard

Starting to think that Clarke has positioned well and playing a very fine game of Poker....or he just finds himself with the opportunity to play a fine hand.

"All along were very happy with what we see as a clear 2"
"Would of course play club due diligence on offers for split"
"Interested in bringing in old body mids"

1. Leaves him to just play 1 and 2 for Dursma and CDT knowing he can support our developing midfield with at least older mids in Robertson and Schoenberg.
2. Or signals that we are very keen on above mentioned players but extremely happy if we can split for say Dursma Sharp and Cummings ( my personal fav) using pick 2 alone or with a variety of picks with 2.

Either way he wins as he supports what we don't have which is probably why AH Chee probably doesn't fit the need ...unless it falls in our lap.

As much as i would like to have an opportunity to fit in a slider or opportunistic pick. I think instead of list clog we go to next year quite happy with what we got this year.

Or Clarke is crap and this positioning is fluke and he has no idea how to play Poker ;)

Whether consciously or unconsciously, I think there will be pressure on Essendon to be aggressive and trade up. Whilst most admired their stand of doing nothing on Merrett, that’s a defensive move that doesn’t make them worse than this year but also doesn’t make them better.

Not trading up to get fan favourites Duursma or CDT could likewise be seen as choosing to do nothing, especially when it’s not unreasonable to assume us or Richmond would be open to it.

It’s a great position for us to be in.
