Mr Wolf, i have been saying for 2 or 3 years that when Roos leaves we have to explore as many options as possible. The club did not to that and in a way we have more of the same.

fair enough, i just cant imagine geelong accepting anything less than a first rounder, espcially given that in this draft that will be early 20s anyway, we are short in the kpd aswell which would mean the deal would have to be more enticing id believe

The big question is, is Hawkins contracted beyond the end of this year? If he is, then no matter how hard Sydney chase, Geelong won't let him go for below market value. Personally, I think a first round pick in the compromised GWS draft would be fair, but as someone has already pointed out that is most likely headed for the Tom Mitchell F/S pick. So unless we can trade for a first round pick from another club (very unlikely given the compromised draft) then I can't see it happening.
But it does seem Hawkins is out of favour at the Cattery. And with Ottens playing well, and this new kid Vardy played a good game and stood out for his height and athleticism. Apparently they have yet to unveil Mitch Brown, who they are very excited about, so not sure there is still a place for Hawkins and they maybe happy to receive something for him than have him languishing in the reserves.
I think the downside for him (and the reason he isnt getting a game at the Cats) is lack of stamina. As Roos'y said on 'On The Couch', unless you are a Tony Lockett or a Jason Dunstall, the person who plays at full fiorward these days needs to have some other bows to his string (my words) and be able to play in other positions. If Hawkins doesnt have the stamina, and unless he can be turned into a top flight full forward, there's probably not a lot of positives for him.

In all seriousness we have enough of those on our list already so we are unlikely to pay what Geelong believe he is worth to them.
Probably struggle to get more than a 2nd rounder + fringe player from us, as another suggested 2nd rounder + Currie wouldn't be out of the equation.
Maybe a straight swap for White + pick trading depending on how he sees out the year, but I'd strongly doubt we would place too much trade value on "potential" given our previous trading history.

yeah that wouldnt get the deal done from a geelong perspective, he basicaly was the number one draft pick in 07 what he was worth in the underage system, he does have a lot of potential, a new club might be right up his ally
to be honest if he was going anywhere, it would have to be him asking to leave, id assume GWS would offer something and snap him up

If he can't kick a few each week with the cat's midfield delivering the ball to him then he's not going to do much better in Sydney.

TBH I'd do that deal, but I doubt Geelong actually would, personally I rate White's athletic potential, and think he could develop into a good player. The exact opposite of Hawkins although to be fair his injuries have really curtailed his ability to develop his fitness, played some decent games last year before he got injured yet again. The constant putting him in the ruck has stalled his development too, and hopefully with Vardy now having shown how well he can ruck, that will be ended. One thing is that we haven't got much KPP depth, so I can't see us trading Hawkins unless we get a decent KPP back in the deal, or a very good pick.
Re-signed for 2 years mid last year. I agree probably first round is what we'd ask for, albeit he's not worth that right now but when the guy's contracted you can push for overs because there's no risk he goes for nothing.
I don't see us looking to fling Hawkins, but if Vardy and Brown bypass him he may look to go. Due to the massive transition Geelong is about to go through we'd probably heavily desire picks in future drafts anyway, so GWS would be the logical destination if he looks to go.

I agree, after a third disaster Buddy is worth dusting down, wiping the slate clean, redrawing the lines and giving another crack.
Problem is I don't think were the only ones thinking that way at all....
