To be fair, Grant is basically just White in red, white and blue. Don't go nuts

You haven't heard brah? According to opposition fans, we haven't got any young talent coming through the ranks, unlike those Vic teams outside the 8, with the best midfield etc, etc. :D

I think that's the point he was making... that White isn't too good...

Heard Paul Roos say today while commentating the game that the Swans would be attempting to improve their list in the draft period this year by targeting tall KPP players. Anything in it? Mitch Clark? Anyone else?

I have heard them discussing Tom Hawkins and Sydney on 'on the couch'.

IMO, I doubt we will be that active. Unlike previous seasons, I dont think we are in a position to offer players spots in our best 22 (unless they are proven players) - plus pretty much any decent player who is willing to move to sydney is going to go to GWS.

two players I have always rated are bate from melbourne and thursfield from richmond.

Thursfield in particular is a little out of left field, but I think he has the agility and strength to be a very useful defender.

Big do not want with Bate. I watch a hell of a lot of Melbourne and he is the definition of a plodder. Same with Dunn.

Thursfield I like but with Johnson surprising the hell out of us we don't really need him.
We have done the trading well so far but if we just trade for the sake of it and go for Bate type players we'll just fill the list with rubbish. I'm happy with what we have at the moment going into 2012.

Jesse White + Currie + 2nd round for Mitch Clark + 4th round.

multiple lower picks != high pick

multiple fringe players != top 5 player

Brisbane would be looking at a first round draft pick, which we cant offer or 1 good player from our team which we wont offer.

Woudn't want Tom Hawkins or Matthew Bate. I actually rate Will Thursfield's defensive side of his game, not so much his offensive side. Richmond are my second team, so I go to all of their games in Melbourne and had been advocating for him to be included all year, but Richmond wouldn't budge from McGuane who is a pretty average player. So I wouldn't be against picking him up but I don't think we need him considering we have Johnson, Richards and Grundy, and then hopefully Campbell Heath really comes on when he gets a couple of injury free pre-seasons under his belt.

The thing with Mitch Clark is he is out of contract and I'm pretty certain GWS don't have a pick in the pre-season draft? At least GC didn't this year. So, hypothetically speaking, if we were to put a crazy sum on his head like $550,000-$600,000 I'm fairly confident no other club would be willing to match that so we would more than likely get him for free without having to worry about what would interest them in terms of draft picks. I certainly think we would have the cap space to pay him that if we were serious in getting him.

Or you know, they can just sign him cos they can do that?

Can you ever have a discussion with anyone without being sarcastic? Or do you have to pretend that you're smarter than everyone because you have some sort of inferiority complex? I'm pretty sure it was implied in my post that IF he was to walk into the PSD, and IF we were to put a price on his head, we would have a pretty strong chance of drafting him. That is, IF he decided that Sydney was the club that he wanted to play for.

Don't think my post was sarcastic.. I was pointing out that they can pick him up 'for free' since he's out of contract.

Ok I understand your point about GWS signing him as an out of contract player. But I think if most players were going to move to Sydney, and were presented with a contract by Sydney that was slightly lower than GWS' offer but still a very good offer, they would choose Sydney because they should be a strong chance of competing in the next few years and are already an established club. So I think if he decides to nominate for the PSD rather than signing for GWS, we would have a great chance.

On Mitch Clark I think he would be a very good pick up. We seem to have the money in the salary cap, and would fill that role of second ruck-KP forward to perfection. Played his best year for Brisbane as a leading ruckman in 2009, and we all know he is a quality forward.

Except that we have Seaby sitting in the Reserves, as well as Pyke, who both fill that role just as well, especially Pyke.

As I said in my original post, if we were after him I'm fairly confident we could get him. Of course, I'm not even sure if we are after him. Besides, Mitch Clark is a mile ahead of both Seaby and Pyke. Seaby and Pyke are both very good ruckmen in their own right, but Clark was in the AA squad in 2009 and would be an absolute lock for our best 22. I'm not even sure Pyke and Seaby could lay claim to being in our best 22 when everyone is fit, especially if we are only playing with the one designated ruckman.

I played against him when he was at Riverview. Trying to mark him was a bigger waste of time than Stat stocking up on prophylactics.
Do you rate him, obviously a few clubs have him on the radar. He even admits that he had the wrong attitude early. Gary Ayers has turned him around thats for sure.

I haven't been stocking up because stocking up would imply they aren't being used.
