Dragons FFC 20.11.131 defeated East Side Hawks 10.10.70 @ Ljp86's Lair

This, plus a win for por_please_ya in PMBangers ' sheep game meant we had a winning mentality going into the game. Unfortunately that ended swiftly as the Dragons left into a 4 goal lead in the first quarter and an 8 goal lead at Half Time.

...and we won the third quarter with 4 goals and PhenomenalV1 joined the party in his 100th game. Unfortunately it wasn't meant to be and the Dragons ran away with it in the final quarter. 3 goals and 8 tackles from PMBangers was best for us, with PhenomenalV1 also chipping in with 3 goals and por_please_ya with 30 disposals.

The larrikin award

We here at East Side are in the business of recognising what makes this league great, and that is the banter. For that we have the larrikin award, which is named after the game record holder for the Hawks, and your current teammate, larrikin.

Following each round, players nominate their favourite match-thread posters for that week, which means this award is selected by you, the players, arguably making it the most important award for the festival. The award is scored by taking the percentage of votes a player receives for each game, so there are some situations where a player may receive more raw votes because they accumulated them in weeks where more players voted, but not be ranked higher overall.

The round mound of sound Biggie was the victor in Season 28, following a two season run by The Jesus, with TY24 winning in Season 29. PMBangers was our best poster in Season 30, can he repeat? Read-on dear reader:

East Side Hawks 21.14.140 defeated Las Vegas Bears 14.8.92 @ The Eyrie

A bold selection call was made to put Itsmyshow back at FF after a little time away. What would the impact be? We needn't have worried, as we raced to a good start, kicking the first goal.

The Bears did come back in the second half but 7 tackles from Biggie and PMBangers repelled the attacks. Biggie drew 7 frees to disrupt the flow as well! Other 20+ disposal performers were Hate , SM and Agent93. The main attention after the game, however, were on the main goalkickers, with Itsmyshow and PhenomenalV1 on 5 each and 11kgm on 4.

The mark of consistancy your captain has always been thereabouts in the larrikin, which either means you love me (cue 'The Mask' gif), or I'm a convenient deumping ground for that third pick when you just can decide.

East Side Hawks 17.11.113 defeated Baghdad Bombers 12.6.78 @ The Eyrie

Another key game to capitalise on our recent win, and before the game there was celebrations for larrikin's 450th game and Itsmyshow's 150th Hawks game.

It meant that going into the Bombers game we were ready to work as a team to win. Although it would be tricky with our opponents sitting 2nd on the ladder.

And as it turned up - it was eth-dog (3 goals) and Milera2Betts (5 goals, 3 in the final quarter). What might have been our best performance of the season to pull away from the Bombers. In the end, we scored 6 goals in that quarter in a confidence boosting performance. Another 8 tackles for PMBangers and Hate pulling together 7 tackles from the ruck of his own. BOG larrikin had 25 disposals with 10 marks.

The larrikin award

It's the hump of the top 5, and we're seeing a trend here: holding steady from S30, is a small rodent who has picked up the club's leadership. Clearly the future dumping ground for undecided third votes.

As an aside, because the larrikin is not awarded on raw vote due to differing numbers of people voting each round, Chip was suprised to have finished third.​

East Side Hawks 8.8.56 defeated Fighting Furies 5.8.38 @ The Eyrie

After 2 weeks we had a comfortable win against fellow basement dwellers the Furies. In a low scoring game Itsmyshow scored the first goal and we never lost our lead.

Hate was BOG with 21 disposals, 3 tackles and a goal, great stats in the muddy conditions. 3 wins in a row was our best run since S29.

Jumping back into the top 5 after missing in season 30, it's clear customary bite was back. Some might say he was unshackled by not having a massive season-long media piece looming over his head, and others my be happy just that he has his team-mate's backs.

West Coast Wonders 12.8.80 lost to East Side Hawks 18.11.119 @ The Colosseum

And we reach 4 wins in a row! On Mother’s Day the Hawks turned on the style. After a 3 goal deficit after the first quarter, we fought back to be behind by only a point at half time.

We then scored 2 goals in the first 36 seconds of the third quarter, including a great goal by Captain Agent93. Then Golumless iced the game. We won by 7 goals and move into the 8!

In the middle of winter when your team is losing some s**t game, in the rain, against the bottom placed side in the league there's nothing nice than a pint of the cold stuff and here it is, the froth on the cold one. I've said it before: expectations are now very high.

Round 1 came again, and he backed up the S30 EKA performance with more of that team-leading engagement. By the end of the season he'd again racked up the greatest volume of posts for the club, and was obviously well liked by all and sundry.

Oh s**t yeah. I forgot I was going to mention it, but there's less than one rating point between first and second at the end of Rd 14.

There's also 20-ish between 3rd and 5th, and 45ish between 6th and 10th. All gaps that can be made up or in a single game.
