We matchup with the Swamprats again, a team who we managed to snag a win over early in the season and with finals only a month away, banking wins and securing a top 4 or even a top 2 finish was still in sight. But first, we had to get past philreich and his crew.

Like the last hithout, this game was equally as tough and early on, we were up to the challenge. Up by just over 2 goals at the first two breaks, we felt we had it in the tank to hold this one and set up our finals campaign nicely. Even when we held a 9-pt lead at the final change, it really felt like our day. But then, cometh the moment, cometh the man. The unretired okeydoke7 stepped up and made the day all about him and all his glory.

First this:

4 : 23.49 {FF} - okeydoke7 eye's the goals and has a shot.
4 : 23.53 {FF} - The umpires are checking if that shaved the post... and signal the affirmative..

So we didn't get the win, stolen from us at the very end. But we were in good shape, injury-free and ready to bounce back against the Wonders at home next round to try keep those valuable wins coming!

Next up, time for the return leg against the Ex-EastSide, I mean West Coast Wonders. They were visiting and hoping to surely do one better than last time, as we ended up with a convincing victory that had set up a glimmering hopeful Qooty campaign.

The Wonders again were lulled into a false sense of security after some 20-odd pages of banter and we got out to a rocketing start once again. Again, the Wonders accuracy kept them in the game, with only 4 behinds for the entire game, yet once we scored 8 goals in the opening term, Itsmyshow put on yet another clinic of 6 goals and Agent93 dominated with 131 DT points.

We never really let up from there, finishing the game in style and recording a 52-pt victory to continue surging towards finals football!

A disappointing way to finish Zoops' 50th game for the club

The game itself was a little disappointing, the Bombers took an early lead although we scored out first through por_please_ya , with excellent work from eth-dog and Jack The Godfather

The Bombers took a lead in the first quarter, but we fought back to have a one goal lead at the half time break. 11kgm was showing some good goalkicking form. However, the Bombers ran away with the second half.

11kgm scored 3 with no one else scoring more than 1. por_please_ya tonned up with 25 disposals and 5 tackles, with Red mist with 7 tackles.

We checked in with MWPP again for her thoughts on both the Phoenix and her good friend Porps' performance throughout the year!

1. What has been your view of the season for the Phoenix?
1. Onfield - a breakthrough year as part of the rebuild, showing plenty of talent on the qooty field and potential for future seasons. Despite the grand final loss, it was a very successful year and a turning point
Offield - quieter than previous seasons but Wiz had a breakthrough year and there was a welcome ongoing focus on quality over quantity amidst the spamfest elsewhere in the league
Overall, the league truly saw the Phoenix #riseup

2. Por_please_ya has polled in the Top 5 for the larrikin ‘best poster’ club award (position to be revealed later). What’s your view on his season for the Phoenix?
This seemed like porps’ best year in recent seasons, both quality and quantity wise. My suggestion to move to the Ruck and her subsequent success seemed to reinvigorate her and we truly saw her #riseup . I think she had a lot of fun this season too and particularly in the Grand Final thread, despite the result .

Congrats Porps on another great season at East Side!

East Side Phoenix 17.10.112 def 13.11.89 Coney Island Warriors at The Eyrie

So we stay at home and welcome the Warriors to town. Tonga Bob and crew joined us for heritage round, full of stories, laughs around imaginary campfires and a quiet but qualitative week.

Hot off our form from last week, we wasted no time kicking a few goals and restricting the Warriors to 1.1 in the opening term. The second was a huge goalfest, with 12 goals total (6 each) and looked to be a shootout in the second half. A further 4 goals each in the third, and then despite the Warriors kicking 2 goals early to be within earshot of the lead, we wrestled back momentum and kicked away, to win by 23 points.

Now we start to believe. Top 4 is all but locked in, and it's looking ominous for any team facing us right now. Can we continue our campaign strongly on the back end and enter the finals in red hot form?

East Side Phoenix 18.11.119 lost to Dragons FFC 19.10.125

With Top 4 secure, it was time to try some new things.

And up against the high-flying Dragons it was a see-saw battle. Goals were flying in everywhere and we got the first, Itsmyshow showing that he means business with a goal within 4 minutes.

We scored 10 goals in the first half with multiple goalscorers and led by 3 goals.

The Dragons comeback came fast and although our defence stood firm, we ended it 9 points behind. In the final quarter, the Dragons took an early lead, then goals from Jack The Godfather , @MannumPower , the Captain and Itsmyshow (2) put us into it. 2 goals behind, we had 2 kicks from players who had not touched the ball to date.

So a narrow loss. Zoops had 30 touches with @MannumPower and myself getting 5 tackles. por_please_ya had 21 hitouts. A full cohort of Mobbs, too!

East Side Phoenix 9.15.69 lost to Las Vegas Bears 14.6.90

It was Le Grille 's 100th Sweet FA game which meant a bit of a celebration with Top 4 secure. We were back playing the Bears and hoped to repeat our Round 6 demolition.

We were looking for Fred honours with Itsmyshow and to consolidate high league rankings for other players. Unfortunately, as we woke up it was rainy, which scuppered some of the plans and made us gloomy.

In the game itself we kicked off to a 3 goal lead in the first quarter, the first from Zoops following good work by eth-dog and daddy_4_eyes . Splendid!

Other goals came from multiple options: Drunkgoliath , MC Bad Genius , Le Grille and Itsmyshow , all of the forward line got involved and had a party.

We maintained the lead in the 2nd until 2 late goals pulled the Bears to within a kick. And they pulled away in the second half, despite some good resilience from the team - Itsmyshow scoring another and thewizardmelon getting involved! But it was wayward kicking which cost us, with far too many behinds.

It was only two goals maximum to Itsmyshow . Agent93 finished the day with a smooth 24 disposals. 5 tackles and 6 FF showed that larrikin was out to make an impression in finals.

So we finished 4th and up against the Dragons in Week 1 of Finals. With rumours that it will be our Mirror round, let's see what tricks the team will have in store.
