There will be a lot of interest in how Hughes goes at Worcerstershire - where he is playing for the entire season.

I'd much prefer that they moved on from Hughes for a couple of years, really make him pile on domestic runs before he comes back. The guy has a major flaw in technique which everyone knows about and is easily exploited by test quicks. Guy needs to go a few seasons in domestic cricket not being caught in the gully or second or third slip every innings.

We can't dump Cowan, he's our specialist short leg!

3 catches so far this dig and 5 for the series :thumbsu:

As frustrating as Hughes can be you can't doubt his dedication. Really hope he makes it and I have a feeling he will. Eventually.

He reminds me of the role Chopra used to play for India when he opened with Sehwag . He has a dasher down the other end so all he needs to be solid and rotate the strike. Just like him though he has the same problem of not being able to convert starts and was eventually dropped, i can see the same problem occuring with Cowan

Yes Chappelli :D

I think they will give cowan the south african series, the top 6 have been pretty awful this series but the pitches have been difficult so im not sure anybody will lose their spot based on these three tests.

You could of course make the case that that leaves us with a top 6 that we know can make runs against poor bowling(say the joke that was India last summer) in Australian conditions but that collapse in a heap overseas against even moderate attacks, perhaps the harsh reality is we don't have a top 6 that can bat well enough to win back the ashes anytime soon.

The batting cupboard is bare and our vet bats that failed in the 09 ashes are not going to get us over the line 4 years on against an even more potent england than we faced in 2009.

He's playing the role Swampy Marsh used to play. Slow as treacle and a pretty crap average but he helps take the shine off the new pill.

By the way what does everyone think about him bitching about "bloody journalists"? Pretty hypocritical I would've thought considering he was using his public profile to flog a book last year. In keeping with most cricketers 'autobiographies' it was probably ghostwritten by a 'bloody journalist' as well.

Kitchen getting warm Eddie?

I feel sorry for a bloke who has to keep for a day and then bat.
Yep, they won't do that. For the same reason Gilly never opened in Tests. It's just asking too much. ODIs/20-20s no worries, but certainly not Tests.
