Can anyone tell me what is happening next year with the divisions? Are the 14 teams in B grade being split into new Divisions 2 and 3?

Coburg Districts FC transferred to the (then strong) Footscray District Football League in the late 1980's. I wonder after the EDFL move to three divisions whether Coburg Districts would come back. I would think the EDFL would be a strong league than the WRFL these days. They would have more matches closer to their Pascoe Vale base too.

Would need to get a junior program happening... Plus under 18's which has been difficult for even strong clubs such as pacco and glenroy in recent times

fair enough regarding the having 18's, surely the league cant expect to have every team in the seniors comp having a juniors program from the start. maybe if districts were dmitted in the league and given 3-4 years to have some sort of junior program running around..

I think the edfl have it spot on enforcing all clubs to have under 10's right through to seniors.... Helps keep kids in footy if there is a relationship between juniors and seniors also helps keep clubs strong

Would also help coburg districts with their recruiting if they played in the edfl they lose moat of their recruits to edfl sides

It's a stupid rule and it limits the growth of the league.
Yes it's great having a pathway from juniors to seniors & clubs with a strong junior program will reap the benefits in years to come but you shouldn't knock back clubs just because they have juniors in another comp or no juniors at all.

there is plenty of reasons why i dont agree with the 3 Divisions, but here is one that i havnt heard many talk about. Not all clubs have a strong senior side but the res & 18's go where the seniors go.

what happens when your res & 18's are in the top six and the seniors in the relegation spots. might be good for the seniors who have been struggling but for the other two sides who have been going well and then having to drop back to 3rd division wouldnt do much for the competition or the clubs who are trying there best to keep the kids.

There isnt really any teams in that position, besides some senior players will probably move on then the depth in the ressies will be tested.
But understand your thinking.

I have watched a fair bit of U18 footy in the last couple of years and I can tell you that the best B Grade U18 sides would only be mid table at best in A grade. As with the senior teams there is a huge gap between A grade and B grade footy.

That's an interesting question which I havn't seen raised is will there be a C grade U18 as well?

i would think there has to be a C grade 18s to keep them all together. Could you imagine having your 18s at one ground and your res/snrs at another. Surely they couldnt do that to the clubs!!!!!!

EDFL's idea for 2012:

a grade - 10 teams
17 rounds plus finals as per current fixture system

b grade - 14 teams
13 normal rounds, once every team has played eachother once the bottom 6 teams form a c grade and the remaining 8 teams play 4 more games before the top 6 teams start a finals series after round 17.

c grade- after round 13 - 6 teams
play 4 more rounds, then start a finals series.
The winner of the 2012 c grade premiership won't be in b grade in 2013.

2013 (from the start):
a grade - 10 teams
b grade - 8 teams
c grade 6 teams

alot of this depends on applications by "new" teams to come into the EDFL.

if Coburg Districts or Caroline Springs came in, you would think they would enter into C Grade. if Parkside (wrfl) or Wallan (rdfl) applied they would probably need to go into B Grade. You could argue that Sunbury Lions (BFL) would justify A Grade inclusion immediately as probably too strong for B-Grade.

the league needs to enquire with the local council of the Cragieburn area (Hume i think) if they can possibly get a new club in the Cragieburn "growth" area setup for 2013-2014. They could call it Cragieburn North/South/West/Heights etc... or come up with a new name altogether like "Hume City FC". The area is booming and the league should be trying to tap footy into as many kids in that area as possible.....although cricket might be their go!

I know a fair while ago Coburg Districts had an interest in being in the EDFL, I believe it was one of the reasons they were intested in merging with North Coburg

If any new sides entered in 2012 wouldnt they all just go into 2nd div. If they are Div 1 quality then they should win the flag and be promoted for 2013 and it gives the others the opportunity to have a crack first year and try and remain in div 2 rather than enter in 2013 in div 3.

It may be more incentive for a Parkside or Coburg districts to enter next year rather than the year after ?

this topic has been quiet lately so here to liven it up!
great summary by 'Footy 4 Fox'. they need to target the new growth areas within the boundaries the EDFL already abide by.
but some teams that i thought the EDFL should be willing to accept would be:
Rupertswood - even though they are a VAFA club and the league said they wouldnt target them. if the eague are gonna attempt to lure sunbury accross, why not bring rupo with them too?
Parkside (WRFL) a club to start in b grade
St Albans - read in local paper that St ALbans have ruled a move out because they werent granted accaess to A Grade straight away. Maybe it the way to go to accept them in to a grade straight away?
Wallan
Rockbank?
Sunbury?
Coburg Districts would surely seek admitance into the league?

Pretty unfair to the winner of b grade flag in 2011 to admit a new club straight to a grade... 2011 b grade premiers would have to remain in b grade

I agree that the B grade premier should go up.
If a side wants into the EDFL & is good enough to go straight to A grade then they should. No reason why it couldn't be 11 teams for 1 year & relegate the bottom two at seasons end.
Yes the fixture wouldnt be quite even for a year but its better then an A grade strength team playing in B Grade & destroying teams every week.
Take Sunbury for example, if they were interested in playing EDFL, would have to be admitted to A grade, Sunbury playing B grade would be a joke.

Districts would be crazy not to come across to the edfl... I can't think of any disadvantage of coming over

:thumbsu::thumbsu: agree..... Although, why not the top two B grade Grand Finalists in 2011 go up to A grade for thier efforts???
And I agree Sunbury are top quality club, give every other club access to poker machines,,,,,, income turning over day by day....., and every EDFL club would be a force aswell.... they can stick it out for a year in B Grade and earn their respect like edfl clubs do..... who knows whats going on?

....But Pokies are the Joke....

There are B Grade clubs in A Grade

Gap between B and A grade is too large to promote two clubs... Few clubs survive the jump to A grade many don't survive longer than one year without the $$$... Glenroy tulla and now taylors lakes have experienced this

The EDFL will not play around with the integrity of the A Grade competition. There has been no discussion about changing the number of teams in that competition. The relegation system between A & B grades will not be altered. Sunbury I believe will be in B GRade in 2013, their juniors look like moving into the EDFL in 2012 along with Rolling Meadows. I believe there are a few other clubs both senior & junior talking to the EDFL - all looks good for the future of the league be it at the demise of some clubs. No senior club will be allowed entry intothe league without juniors but they will let junior clubs in with the understanding that they must get a senior side up & running within 5 years.

Is this inside info no rules... Or just your opinion on the situation?
