Coburg Districts FC transferred to the (then strong) Footscray District Football League in the late 1980's. I wonder after the EDFL move to three divisions whether Coburg Districts would come back. I would think the EDFL would be a strong league than the WRFL these days. They would have more matches closer to their Pascoe Vale base too.
Would need to get a junior program happening... Plus under 18's which has been difficult for even strong clubs such as pacco and glenroy in recent times
I think the edfl have it spot on enforcing all clubs to have under 10's right through to seniors.... Helps keep kids in footy if there is a relationship between juniors and seniors also helps keep clubs strongfair enough regarding the having 18's, surely the league cant expect to have every team in the seniors comp having a juniors program from the start. maybe if districts were dmitted in the league and given 3-4 years to have some sort of junior program running around..

It's a stupid rule and it limits the growth of the league.I think the edfl have it spot on enforcing all clubs to have under 10's right through to seniors.... Helps keep kids in footy if there is a relationship between juniors and seniors also helps keep clubs strong
Would also help coburg districts with their recruiting if they played in the edfl they lose moat of their recruits to edfl sides
there is plenty of reasons why i dont agree with the 3 Divisions, but here is one that i havnt heard many talk about. Not all clubs have a strong senior side but the res & 18's go where the seniors go.
what happens when your res & 18's are in the top six and the seniors in the relegation spots. might be good for the seniors who have been struggling but for the other two sides who have been going well and then having to drop back to 3rd division wouldnt do much for the competition or the clubs who are trying there best to keep the kids.

this happened in b grade 2004 u/18's was annoyingi would think there has to be a C grade 18s to keep them all together. Could you imagine having your 18s at one ground and your res/snrs at another. Surely they couldnt do that to the clubs!!!!!!

EDFL's idea for 2012:
a grade - 10 teams
17 rounds plus finals as per current fixture system
b grade - 14 teams
13 normal rounds, once every team has played eachother once the bottom 6 teams form a c grade and the remaining 8 teams play 4 more games before the top 6 teams start a finals series after round 17.
c grade- after round 13 - 6 teams
play 4 more rounds, then start a finals series.
The winner of the 2012 c grade premiership won't be in b grade in 2013.
2013 (from the start):
a grade - 10 teams
b grade - 8 teams
c grade 6 teams
alot of this depends on applications by "new" teams to come into the EDFL.
if Coburg Districts or Caroline Springs came in, you would think they would enter into C Grade. if Parkside (wrfl) or Wallan (rdfl) applied they would probably need to go into B Grade. You could argue that Sunbury Lions (BFL) would justify A Grade inclusion immediately as probably too strong for B-Grade.
the league needs to enquire with the local council of the Cragieburn area (Hume i think) if they can possibly get a new club in the Cragieburn "growth" area setup for 2013-2014. They could call it Cragieburn North/South/West/Heights etc... or come up with a new name altogether like "Hume City FC". The area is booming and the league should be trying to tap footy into as many kids in that area as possible.....although cricket might be their go!![]()
I agree that the B grade premier should go up.Pretty unfair to the winner of b grade flag in 2011 to admit a new club straight to a grade... 2011 b grade premiers would have to remain in b grade
I know a fair while ago Coburg Districts had an interest in being in the EDFL, I believe it was one of the reasons they were intested in merging with North Coburg
I agree that the B grade premier should go up.
If a side wants into the EDFL & is good enough to go straight to A grade then they should. No reason why it couldn't be 11 teams for 1 year & relegate the bottom two at seasons end.
Yes the fixture wouldnt be quite even for a year but its better then an A grade strength team playing in B Grade & destroying teams every week.
Take Sunbury for example, if they were interested in playing EDFL, would have to be admitted to A grade, Sunbury playing B grade would be a joke.
agree..... Although, why not the top two B grade Grand Finalists in 2011 go up to A grade for thier efforts???

And I agree Sunbury are top quality club, give every other club access to poker machines,,,,,, income turning over day by day....., and every EDFL club would be a force aswell.... they can stick it out for a year in B Grade and earn their respect like edfl clubs do..... who knows whats going on?
....But Pokies are the Joke....
There are B Grade clubs in A Grade
There are A Grade clubs in B grade
The EDFL will not play around with the integrity of the A Grade competition. There has been no discussion about changing the number of teams in that competition. The relegation system between A & B grades will not be altered. Sunbury I believe will be in B GRade in 2013, their juniors look like moving into the EDFL in 2012 along with Rolling Meadows. I believe there are a few other clubs both senior & junior talking to the EDFL - all looks good for the future of the league be it at the demise of some clubs. No senior club will be allowed entry intothe league without juniors but they will let junior clubs in with the understanding that they must get a senior side up & running within 5 years.
