EDFL Premier Division 2016

Went down and watched APW v WC. Interesting to see the Conlon playing reserves, though it was only the first half. Not every day you see an athletic 6'6 full forward playing twos footy. Cupido was very disappointing, would take a kick out and then just walk up the field slowly. Rogers presented well and Cross did a lot of good work around the ball. WC up by 70 points at 3/4 time and took the foot off the gas, to only win by half that margin. Was it the mentality that they were winning and took the foot off the gas or was it a lack of fitness, time will tell. All in all, WC will trouble a couple of sides this year, may be a lot more even than what people think, going by the results of round 1.

Interesting times ahead for a lot of teams in round 2.
Is that Daniel Cross former Doggie and Demons player Subway?

Thanks for the insight!!
Gave everyone in the BigFooty world a great example of your EDFL knowledge. Well done

Hey Gremlin, good to see you bragging about your tipping so early into the season but I suggest that might be your style to go early. You got 3 more than me, well let's give him a prize shall we. As per some recent posts by others, at least I try and get some conversation flowing. No so sure about you though.

I did go against the flow and pick Avondale and Pacco who both let me down. I suppose the Avondale result was likely but I didn't expect the result at Pacco. They had a pretty strong side on paper however there pre season results were not as good as previous years. But they will bounce back and smash APW this week and set up an interesting Anzac Sunday clash v Keilor.
I never really considered that Marby or Douttas would win but good on them. It's great reward for Castello who has put in the hard yards and now maybe getting some rewards. Was offered some better jobs than Marby but took on the challenge. I see Marby have a 3rd senior side capt/coached by G.Daley. Must have good numbers..
Douttas spending seems to have paid off so far, but it's a long season. But beating Strathmore at Strathmore is not easy.
Nothing much positive coming out of Airport West. Is Cupido fit? From what I'm hearing his struggling a bit which is not good in EDFL premier.

I never bragged about my tipping once ? The phrase "I'll give you all some insight" stung me. I took it as we all know nothing, and you know all!!

Anyway not going to have an ongoing stoush about it. I'll keep posting tips and expect I'll cop it when I mess them up, which is bound to happen!

Turbo, good to have you back on board.
Can say first hand, extremely unfit. Always been a solid boys but fair to say his carrying a keg or two.
Hopefully he can get fit, as he isn’t leading by example!!

I was told that Cupido does not have much interest in playing but the club are adament he was hired as a playing coach.

Cheers Subway,

I'm guessing it's maybe not an easy task without the cattle but surely his still dangerous if played at Full forward. Having said this its a big investment for a club to get someone like Cupido, or any big name player, however you do expect return on your investment, so they probably expect him to play mid/forward and develop the group. I heard they have a few boys from Darwin. Are they down yet? Hope they can improve as they are a good club who deserve to be in premier.,

Nah all good. I was just trying to give my selections with a small summary. But yes I was right off the mark. I think you took my phrase out of context as many posters on here are knowledgeable on the game. It just went a bit quite so thought I would provide something.

PS: thanks to everyone for the private messages of support. But I must admit I did get a bit addicted to BF during the off season but am a bit busy now, trying to get all my jobs done and improve my fitness so I can keep up with Mango when I see him at Pacco as I still owe him a beer.. Maybe a could disguise myself as a water person and fill up a water bottle with beer and run it out to Mango during the 1st quarter.

Good luck to everyone including Gremlim, Deefer and my old sparring partner Puff,Puff. Haha.,

Deserve to be in Premier? What makes them more deserved to be in Premier than any of the clubs in Div 1? And while we're on it, who in your opinion currently in Premier doesn't deserve to be there?

No need to put a disguise on mate, we all know who you are ;)

Gee I get a lot of questions. APW have good facilities, good ground and seem to be a good bunch of supporters during the game and after it in the rooms. Yes they are struggling a bit and may need to go down to regroup again as they did a few years back but I guess with the appointment of Cupido they intend to fight to stay in premier.
I think all current premier clubs deserve to be there however some div1 clubs still have a bit of work to do I believe. It's not just on field but off field behaviour to encourage families and kids to attend and most importantly a good junior program. Anyway this news is not new to most of you, if your being honest. I don't wish to name clubs.
But I think clubs like Westmeadows and Hillside need to try and get into premier within the next 1-3 years with the junior programs they have built. Especially with the points system and some stronger clubs scouting young talent in the other divisions. Really need to go from u16 div1 > u18 premier > premier as quickly as possible to hold the talented youngsters these clubs have groomed. I'm not sure of Craigieburn, as in the past they have struggled to recruit top end premier players who preform and stay around. Have WestMeadows overtaken both Greenvale & Craigieburn with regards to their junior programs from 10s up???

About time your club solved the mystery it's only taken you guys 2 years of asking around. All you had to do was ask me, or look around for a big head popping out of a hoodie. That would be me!! Lol

I was at the Keilor v Strathmore good Friday game and hearing from friends some others trying to get my identity. Gee whiz I was in the social rooms drinking cans till 8:30pm. If people ask around I'm gathering someone around them will know who I am. But as in footy there are some who go in and some who hang out.. Lol

Anyway I'm sure this is a footy forum for people to hide their identity if they wish. If you don't like reading footy gossip then you can delete your account. Yes some of BF is people being frustrated (which I have been guilty off at times) and some is taken out of context but it's people's opinions on footy..

I'm due for another BF rest now as weather is improving and time for a beer..

All the best to you all...

They are right up there hotdogs. People don't like me mentioning my club budget estimates but let's just say they are not the highest spending club, but up there with the other big clubs like Strathmore and others. They spent a bit when last in premier (2014) and got relegated so they are known to be a high spending club. They have recruited plenty, as they needed to, but all these players would be well compensated. However it's the same for the majority of clubs in premier..

Does it matter what clubs spend. As of next year clubs will have to spend under 250-280 thousand maybe less. With every contracted player signing a legal document as to what they getting paid so players might get a big shock next year when there pay gets slashed by 40-50%

Do you seriously believe that will happen r work? It will just drive player payments under the table more so than they are now. Also there will be other ways around it with non football related payments such as employment, loan vehicles, external payments...... And the list goes on. I have no doubt that the old cash in hand being paid by a sponsor to help a player minimise his tax is already alive and well and will only get more common.

I truly think that what a club spends is irrelevant. The introduction of the points system is the way to control and even up the competition. It will probably take a few tweaks and changes to get it right but at least you have some control. If a club then wants to pay through the roof for one of its own, good luck to them.

All reports is that it's happening 2017. Punishment will be any club found guilty of paying overs will be demoted to the bottom division of there league. Then the player could also be suspended by aflvic.

There is no way to police a salary cap unless the leagues are prepared to have an investigative team to do the work. How do you stop somebody in construction building an extension on a house for $1 when its worth $50,000.00 unless you have an enforcement team looking at this stuff. The VAFA is a prime example of this where there are hundreds of paid players in the competition be it on VFL lists, work or entitlements or whatever and all perfectly legal. Even when a club is caught with its hand in the cookie jar (St Bede's paid a player for $4000.00 for reimbursement for travel to an inter league game he did not play in held in Tasmania), the league wont investigate because it does not what the negativity that it would bring along with the administrative headache.

There is no appetite to spend the money required to police this so it becomes a non-issue.
