Lots of fans and members and history etc. The bums are still on the seats regardless of the off field performances being mediocre and substandard.
The league needs to move past this perception that lots of fans = big club. If they haven't won a final in over two decades, they aren't a big club.

Sleeping giant would probably be a more apt term like Richmond from 1981-2016.

How are they relevant off field ? Because the current administration has an obsession with giving them prime time games? And they aren’t even doing that this season
you're hilariously uninformed, it's almost precious. the AFL needs essendon to be weak (as we are now) because the rest of the football landscape is obsessed to a fault with the club. we're so irrelevant, and yet you're posting about us, what does that exactly say about you? people love hatewatching, we're the club that can do nothing and still leave oppo fans head****ed (like you)

an article shitting on essendon will get a considerably higher number of people viewing it than other clubs, a news story shitting on essendon will have asses in seats. a thread on bigfooty mocking essendon will have people coming in droves. if you think otherwise you're delusional, and the kind of viewer that andrew dillon would love.

why is this thread a roast ?
anyway

scott took over in 2023. brought in McKay, Gresham, duursma, goldy. topped up wrong decision.

now going backwards to go forwards.

entering year 4.
It has been the same strategy all along. Heavy list culling, going to the draft, and pursuing free agents (we have loads of cap space so non issue). The only outlier is the Dursma addition, but that was an opportunistic trade when Zerk- thatcher wanted to go to port, and that was a straight swap.

It just takes time to turn over a list so it might seem a recent change, but essentially 3 years of the same

Based on your warped criteria that does not have a metric that anyone would think means big. Maybe you mean successful?

Getting clicks because everyone enjoys watching the mess isn’t a flex — it’s exactly why Essendon’s been stuck in neutral for 20 years.
and yet, year in year out, essendon is the club people want to see fail, lose, continue to be shit and spend their ever dwindling time obsessing over.

so "irrelevant" and yet, here you are talking about the club. indictment on both your sanity (#head****ed) and the position of the club firmly inside your head

its funny how ever since, was it Damo? Lloydy maybe? maybe Jay Clark said on one of those shows that Essendon are irrelvant at the back end of the season saw us change president, instill new S&C boss, Zac Merrett saga, 3 x best 22 players want to leave (one did exit), and the CEO has retired and gone home

yet no one gives a shit about Essendon.... apparently

Yeah the first 2 or 3 years for a rebuild coach don't count. They need time to turn the list over, and create the team they need to move forward.
It seemed to me that Scott was sold the list being closer than it was, hence topping up over his first 2 years. Having the ghost of Lord Voldemort still lingering around list management didnt help. With clear air and a proper evaluation, the consensus seems the list needs a reset and top end talent acquisition needs to be a priority .

Hence year 4 actually looks more like a year 2 rebuild.

as a rusted on Essendon supporter, im welcoming the ability to bottom out properly. Under the previous list management regime, the highest pick he had (im discounting the SAGA #1 pick anyway) was pick 5. Need to be extremely lucky to get gun players from here on and we have not developed them at all.

So I for one, welcome resetting properly

they are irrelevant amongst the players and clubs. I’ve touched on the commercial side etc but at the end of the day, opposition players couldn’t fear them any less than what they do now

I would suggest you are out of touch then as most players acknowledge that anyone can beat anyone on any given day.

I feel like Essendon have turned the corner.

All started when they gave Dodo the ass.
It just boggles my mind how he was allowed to remain at the club that long.

That's another door we can open when you are ready. They shouldn't have any marquee games outside of ANZAC and Dreamtime. No farmers crap, no pre Kings Eve.
understand your hate but try and tell Essendon supporters you mean nothing ad you'd be laughed out of the room
