What a load of crap!!!

So because we argued against you receiving ongoing salary cap concessions we are never again allowed to show interest in recruiting one of your players??!!

Oh god, the argument has gone so far beyond that.

You're back on page one.

It makes your campaigning against the retention allowance seem a bit self serving.

Listening to Edward Mcguire and the sheep from the Essendon football club during that whole fiasco with the salary cap and what not one could make the assumption that some people drawling the correlation between 3 flags and our extra cap space.

A quick review of our playing list would see the majority of players on our list as one club players. Picked through draft picks, zone concessions and father-son selections. We picked up other players who were offloaded from their original clubs for whatever reason, such as Mal Michael and Martin Pike.

The nucleus of that team played in the Brisbane wooden spoon year of 1998. Their rise was due to skill and talent rather then anyone "buying" flags or teams.

The logic behind the cap increase was to help our list RETAIN players who were selected from the draft. Des Headland may not have set the world on fire at Fremantle but he was a quality player at the Brisbane Lions and his departure was an example of what we are up against. The "go-home" factor was hidden during our flag winning years due to players wanting to be part of sustained success. However, we never chased players with the extra money under our cap, clubs such as Essendon have been useless at managing their own lists and players payments in the past and they have no one but to blame but themselves when they have to offload players.

The Essendon Football Club is a disgraceful organization, i hope they spend many years at the bottom of the table, the pure mention of their name invokes a fire inside me that lures me up to the hills, where i brawl for days on end.

go on bugger off champ....essendon have always raided other clubs...and your are still crap

Hey mate, just wondering who are these players and what clubs were they raided from?

this years list

mcphee and michael

we should start in the 80's - i.e bryan wood, rene kink, geoff raines, tony elshaug, anthony daniher, derek kickett

Hardly raided

Remember Michael played for Collingwood before you lot so if we "raided" him, so did you.

If you're claiming McPhee as "raiding" then don't forget to throw in Caracella.

Want to go back to the 80's, your best and fairest is named after a player you "raided" from our club.

This is a fun game, isn't it?

All clubs poach, raid, lure, whatever word you want to use it matters little. All clubs do it.

I'll pay Sheeds one compliment: he never raided Fitzroy.

He told me that in 1993 and he reiterated the other day at the Devine Luncheon and to this very day, Essendon never raided Fitzroy so I'll pay them that.

Essendon supporters are trying to confuse raiding with any sort of trade. It's like saying West Coast raided Carlton by pinching Kennedy off them.

They are also trying to justify the dirty tactics by saying everyone does it when the chief culprits are the big 4 Melbourne clubs. They target Brisbane with the lure of increased off-field income and increased fame. The campaign to eliminate the retention allowance was not to be fair it was so they could resume taking advantage of the inequities of the game.

Brisbane are in no position to make a play for players from other clubs because we are battling just to keep our own players.

Now I don't want a retention allowance or anything else, I just want the opportunity to be able to benefit from the development of our own players. I just wish Essendon and Collingwood would piss off and focus on their own list instead of ours.

Maybe you should give the club a call and vent your feelings.

I couldn't give a rats toss bag about your list. Don't stereotype supporters of clubs.

If a club is only trying to improve its list, you would try anything for an advantage as well, in fact the advantage is the extra dollars your allowed on your salary cap each year.

Quit whining, if my club had that advantage i wouldn't be.

I couldn't care less whether Essendon supporters are interesting in our list or not. I'm talking about the club.

Seeing as we don't have that advantage I fail to see your point.

And why shouldn't I complain? Essendon has benefited greatly from their whinging.

If you don't give a rats toss bag, why on earth are you hanging around the Lions forum?

We have a grand total of $0 extra allowed on our salary cap each year. Thanks for playing.

Swing and a miss. :o

My apologies, i was unaware they removed the concessions.

I guess everyone has a right to complain.

Here is an extra point. If you had two identical job offers for identical money, but one of them required you to slog out two interstate flights every fortnight, while the other only required you to travel interstate 4 times a year... which would you choose.

Food for thought.

My point being that Essendon and Collingwood supporters seem to conveniently ignore the inequalities that they benefit from.
