Just being going htru the draw for the last hour and our best hope is to finish 8th and get a home final agaionst the Kangs in week 1 which would also mean no perth prem final if we got that far.

now you have to trust me and its best for us to lose this week to the Eagles as long as we beat the Tigers at home in the final rnd.

We would then play the knags first up, the loser of W,Coast vs Saionts or Swans in the 2nd week and then Adel in a prem final.

Finshing 6th or 7th is a waste of time as we have no chnace in hell of beathing the eagles over there in a prem.

its alot of wishful thinking i know but i think we could beat the kangs first up and then most likely the Swans away, who knows.

Just my thoughts, 11 wins i feel gets us in, about 90% sure as long as Fremantle doesn't win there last 2 games

just my thoughts, i just want to play the knags first up

Our first pick won't be till 11-12 anyway so it doesn't matter, would love a crack at the roos and another crack against the Swans as were were undermanned last time against them, there r no standouts this year outside the Eagles and saints i beleive so who knows what could happen

I give you full points for your enthusiasm, but we are no chance of making a preliminary final.

As hard as it is, I think it's time to face it - it's not going to happen this year.

We'll be 6th after this round (we've actually gone up a spot with Brisbane's big loss). This is how I see things playing out;

Geelong - Lose to Eagles, Win against Richmond
Brisbane - Win against Port, Lose to St. Kilda
Fremantle - Lose to St. Kilda, Lose to Port
Melbourne - Lose to Bulldogs, Win against Essendon
Bulldogs - Win against Melbourne, Win against Collingwood
Port - Lose to Brisbane, Win against Freo
Richmond - Win against Hawthorn, Lose against Geelong.

Looking at this, it's still very possible with 1 win, we'll still make the finals with 11 games, due to good percentage. There's 3 spots left for these 7 teams. Port have probably done their dash, Freo will need to beat St. Kilda to have any chance. Brisbane will probably get in, which leaves us fighting with Richmond, the Dogs and Demons for the last 2 spots. We need Richmond to win today, and they've done the job so far. But we need to beat them in round 22, Melbourne could very well beat the Dogs and finish with 12 wins, but 11 wins with a good percentage should be enough to get 7th or 8th.

No threat for finals, Play for the best pick possible.
Just who should we take a dive for? I have no doubt there are good future players in this draft but not a heap of outstanding talent. In 4 years time there WILL be players that people will question how they lasted so long in the draft, so I see no huge advantage in missing the finals.
With the emergance of Egan, our needs may have changed a fraction, Id say we would be looking for Midfield/Halfbackline speed,Medium sized forwards and maybe another ruckman

I'd say medium players who are versatile enough to play defence, midfield or in attack should be the main aim. Maybe even a small defender, already Callan and Wojcinski will be back next year with Fumbles Johnson.

Oh and another small crumbing forward, to let Chappy and Ablett play more in the midfield.

I haven't got the energy or inclination to bother looking at our chances for finals.

I might have a look come Round 22, but right now it should be the last thing on our minds. Just worry about getting a kick in the short-term.

i'd rather not see us play finals this year, as it will be a token appearance. Our best 22 is nowhere NEAR the oval at present, and the ones that ARE still on the field need a break. I don't think we need another ruckman - King, Ottens, Blake, Chambers - we just need the ones we have to heal. I would have said we need a CHF, but maybe, JUST MAYBE, we found one despite our loss to the dees.

If DBHAO's crystal-balling is correct, then winner of Melbourne v Dogs will nab sixth - it makes a seventh-placed finish kind of attractive to meet one of those two first week up, then potentially the Saints back at the cold, wet, oh-my-god-is-that-the-daytime-sky-up-there-we-want-our-roof-back MCG the next week.

Either way, we probably need the Doggies to win next week (due to them having a better percentage). If Melbourne win, they'll probably finish on 12 wins, with the Dogs on 11 wins assuming they'll pump Collingwood. That leaves them with Brisbane, us (if we win 1 game) and maybe Fremantle (if they can win 1 remaining game) fighting it out for the 2 remaining spots. Can't see the Tigers making it (even if they win 2 due to their poor percentage), or Port (unless they beat Brisbane).

I think it's gonna end up like this;
6th - Bulldogs
7th - Geelong
8th - Brisbane

If Geelong doesn't win, Melbourne will come in.

Finals...Why waste the energy, we can get in if we win one more but big deal. A home state final is one thing but we dont deserve to get there the way we flaked on Sat. Should have wrapped it up in Q3 but fell over yet again.

Finals are for teams that want to be there, 1/2 of our guys dont give a toss at the moment and the other 1/2 are out injured.

I can hardly believe we're still in sixth - how the hell did that happen? Oh well - if we can get into the finals then who knows what happens. I certainly wont have any expectations, but I will be glad to be surprised.

bloody oath - us being 6th atm is one of the biggest mysteries of all time. I know that people generally tend not to look at the season as a whole but rather the past couple of rounds, and we indeed were a good side in the first half of the year... but how the hell can we be 6th?? it makes no sense to me. we definately do not deserve to be where we are.

Not trying to put anyone down, but I had a laugh when I saw that just now :)
Surely the results in the above game show how pointless these speculative threads are?
