A hard a question to answer when there is now so much talent in the club and 2007 can't come quick enough for me. I think guys like Mundy, Murphy, Crowley, Johnson and 211 are really going to step up next year and we will see a bigger improvement in a lot of our younger players than the Toast.

Its a tough one but IMO fully fit jlo moves and does more around the ground and is good in the ruck.Sandi has dropped a lot of easy marks in the forward line and isn,t used in defence for those reasons,so no I dont think so.If he can hold his marks and we get a little more out of his ruck dominance this year then he will easily be top 5 to me

He does. I would be interested to know what facts might back it up as I think he suffers from high expectations. Comparable players in terms of the role they play on our list include Crowley, M Carr (not as a tagger), perhaps Black, Peake. M Carr cops the same sort of bad press from some posters on here, but I would be surprised if the stats comparing Peake and/or Crowley to Headland didn't actually favour Headland for the season just past. Difference is nobody expects them to be A-grade match winning players....yet.

My rankings were tongue in cheek, Des is obviously ahead of the likes of Dunn, Warnock, Browne, Campbell and Walker, but Des wouldn't be in my 25 if we had a full list to pick from. Duffield and Drum have looked good at afl level, I'd prefer to get more games into them than have Des cruising around in 2nd gear out there. A month at Subi might see Headland find some urgency too.

We're looking to build a team that will win finals and a premiership. Des had 3 poor finals, and that is unacceptable from a guy with his experience. I don't expect him to dominate, what I expect from anyone who runs out in the jumper is to give 100% and I think Headland is too laid back and casual. The same applies to Matt Carr at times, he appears to be cruising. Some people are critical of Schammer, but his commitment can't be questioned.

If you think Headland brings as much to the team as Crowley and Black you are sadly mistaken. Black is a great leader and Crowley will be in the leadership group in time, Headland sets a bad example for the young players. Stats tell you what you want them to. Haydens numbers wouldn't be great but he's in our best 18.

Fair enough, everyone has an opinion.

If his marking improves and we get more from his tap dominance he will be in the top 5 players in the competition.

I was surprised by Peake's tackle count. Didn't expect it to be up there so high. If he can improve his disposal that would be a fantastic development for him. Also would expect him to come if for a little more attention next year, which is fine; more attention to him means less on someone else, and we have the dpeth and talent to step up.

I have no probs with peoples ideas of the first 5 picked, but I can assure you that when selecting the backline players the following occurs :-

" Rock " - Parker.
FB - Elvis.

Masai, how long do you think Parker will play for? Do you (or anyone) see his role differently this year, and who do you see filling the shoes.

It seems to me that Parker is almost a depth player rather than the "rock". I would expect him to play every week, but that the club will have him covered by other players who will fill his spot in backline in the future. Mentorship. Maybe some time on the bench too so that his use by date is extended. We need a new "rock", a Mr Consistent, a Mr Versatile, and I think 2007 is the passing of the baton. We have lots of contenders.

For me, we have not been able to rely on Thornton and Haddril for the past few seasons due to injuries. Mundy seems better in a looser role, and rebounding. Also a little further up the ground. Johnson too tall, Hayden too small.

Grover and Dodd seem to be the players down back who are best suited to playing on either talls or smalls, and are very mean spirited towards forwards. I was a bit surprised that they weren't talked about a little more as potentials to go midfield next year, especially Dodd, who has done that before. Both seem suited to fighting above and beneath their weight division, and have the pace to stay with speedier forwards.

Overall, as shown by the Doig, Parker had a good year. At times he had very solid games (as expected), but at other times he looked lost.

I've always seen Thornton as his natural replacement, and if he can keep fit, he could create a "good" thorny problem. With Haddrill and Thornton fit, plus maybe Solomon, we may have many options for the backline. Maybe Parker will will be in the 22, but used only on particular match ups.

In retrospect, should Parks have hung up the shorts this season ?. He is a "legend", but when is the right time to wander off into the crowd ?.
