Now that the trade period is out of the way i was wondering which players we were going to delist from the main list and promote from the rookie list.

At the first list lodgement i believe that we can have a maximum of 35 players on the senior list. This will allow us to use the minimum 3 selection a team has to make in the draft.

I'll Have a crack at it:

Retire:
P.Everitt
B.Mathews

Delist:
L.Brennan
M.Laidlaw
k.Thornton
N.davis

Promote:
A.Bruce
B.Murphy

Additions through draft:
R.Shaw

retain on Rookie List:
N.Smith
M.O'Dwyer
J.Orreal

this is what i think will happen (and has alredy happened)

RETIRED
spida
matthews

DELIST
brennen
rok/davis - one will go, depending on rok's decision imo

MAY BE DEMOTED TO ROOKIE LIST
thornton
laidlaw
o'dwyer

i'm not too sure on the more fringe players... but should ask the roomies, they're always on the know

NOOOOOO im seriously gonna cry when it comes 2 the delistings this year i go way 2 attached to the ressies

But i think delistings will be:
Matt O'Dywer
Matt Beckmans
Matt Laidlaw

Promote:
Murphy
Nick Smith

Soph

A little bird on BF told me you got some 'inside mail' on delistings at the recent CC function... specifically mentioned Beckmans

BUT

Laidlaw:confused::eek:

Why would you think they would delist him? Was that one of the CC tips?

Yeah Kristen will play seniors

He was going 2 play this year but that ACL just screwed him right over
and he went to every ressie game this year to show his support he will be good for us though im not entirely sure what roll he will play

I think they will promote two rookies because they have already hinted there will be more than one and three will be hard to fit into the team. Murphy will be one if he really was that close to debuting late this year. Smith most likely the other though O'Dwyer, Bruce or Orreal wouldn't be complete shocks.

I'd keep those three (O'Dwyer, Bruce, Orreal) on the rookie list and say goodbye to Terlich and Beckmans.

Two retirees, two promotions, one trade addition means 4 players have to be cut to get to three spots for the draft. They do have the option of just taking two players in the draft, with a rookie promotion accounting for the other. But if we work on the basis of three to be drafted, 4 need to go.

I suspect Davis will be one, regardless of what ROK does.

I think one of Grundy or Brennan might go. They'd have had more chance of surviving had Leo retired. I hope it's not Reg.

I think one of Laidlaw and Brabazon must be in real trouble, maybe even both. I hope Laidlaw survives but if his hamstrings look like troubling him long-term they may cut their losses.

Thornton was in very good form in the pre-season before his knee. I reckon they'd only delist him if they promised him a rookie spot.

Barlow might be in some danger too. His reserves form this year was pretty unimpressive.

Beckmans and O'Dywer are both rookies therefore they cant be delisted. They will just get removed from the rookie list.

the max number a players can have on the senior list is 35 at the first list lodgement. Therefore:

If ROK stays: minimum two have to be delisted. if only two are delisted no players from the rookie list can be promoted.

If ROK goes: a minimum of one have to be delisted. if only one is delisted no players from the rookie list can be promoted.

Barlow will not be delisted as he had back related hamstring problems all year and couldn't stretch out.
He is too good.

Agree he showed a lot of promise and if he had injuries that affected his form most of the year, that's good news. We all knew he was having some injury issues - just not how much they were affecting him.

Last season was frustrating all round for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year players who should have been pushing for senior football (and for us who want to know whether we do have some decent players pushing through). Thornton, Schmidt, Laidlaw, DOK, Barlow all had injury-restricted years.

DELIST: Brennan, Brabazon, Davis

PROMOTE: Smith/O'Dwyer

And draft two players.

If the Swans are set on elevating two rookies, then Laidlaw, or I hate to say it, Fosdike, might find themselves in trouble. It's hard to imagine Fossie not being picked up in the PSD somewhere if that was the case, though.

Out of interest, what is the deal with maintaing the rookie list? Because both Smith and O'Dwyer have now been on the list for two years. Assuming we elevate one, are we then allowed to keep the other on for a third year, as well as Murphy, Orreal and Bruce for a second?

I have a bit of a feling that Luke Ablett might get Delisted. He will be turning 27 next year and he is rubbish! I think grundy, brennan and thronton will go too.
By the way how funny does rhyce shaw look in a swans jersey.

They keep changing the rules re rookies but based on last year, I think that you are allowed to retain 3 rookies without delisting and redrafting them, and of those, one can be a 3rd year rookie. O'Dwyer has been on the list for two years but because he was delisted after one and redrafted, he only counts as having been on for one year so far.

So they could promote, say, Murphy and Orreal and retain Smith, O'Dwyer and Bruce. But if they only promote one to the senior list, they can't retain all four without delisting and re-rookie-ing one.

There has been talk that the rookie list is to be extended by two spots but I'm not sure if that comes in this year or next. If it has been changed for this year's draft, they may also have changed the rules about how many can be retained.

He looks funnier when his face has been Photoshopped onto Kieran Jack's body....

OK, I gotcha. Honestly, it's just about impossible to find a straight answer on that anywhere!

I know very few (if any) will agree but I'd delist Schmidt.

Very good at ACT level, scored a couple of nice goals at senior level, but totally failed to impose himself as at midfielder at AFL level.

Bird in one season has done more than Schmidt in his career.

Only 30% of Schmidt's possessions are contested and whilst his disposal is OK (80% efficiency), he averages only 6 kicks a game.

By comparison Kennelly has the same % of contested possessions and a better kicking efficiency (85%) and averages 9 kicks a game.

So that's running half back with a higher contested possession % than a midfielder. It also indicates that Schmidt's much vaunted kicking is far from elite and also that he simply doesn't get enough of the ball.

Schmidt is slow, coming back from a knee op and if we are serious about being a quicker side I fail to see how he is going to help.

Schmidt will be 23 at the start of next season, he has been on the list since 2003 and has had plenty of opportunities to show his capabilities, but has failed to take the chances offered.

Bird, Veszpremi, Moore are all potential centre square players and IMO all are better than Schmidt. Schmidt's only hope in my view is as a small forward.

One guy I'd like us to retain, assuming his hamstrings are up to it, is Laidlaw. Quick, a lovely long kick and hard at it. Unfortunately I fear the acquisition of Rhyce Shaw and the presence of DOK may spell the end for Laidlaw, as the role they would take would be similar.
