Mate, the draft really excites me.
I have been watching Hawkins for over 2 years and he will be very welcome to our team. Donohue is next
I think we need a Key Position Players still.
Ottens, Harley and King are injury prone.
We have an abundance of midfielders amd can pick them up with latter picks, so my thoughts are KPP

to be honest im not to worried in the midfield department yet, we have the kids that r quick but just are not yet confident enough to have an impact, but the KPP is defiantly got to be high in who we look for in with our 2 picks, because when we loose harley n scarlett its going to be a big lose to our backline n we need to get 2 young kids in the not too distant future to fill their positions, n ruck option for king which hopefully trent west will move into that role after some time in the VFL n some work with a ruck coach maybe sam newman he seems to be doing good things in that department when asked to help out, n what about todd grima or Stephen Owen could one these players be a FF option i only know what ive read bout them on gfc.com.au n footydraft.com so i could be way off here, could one of these become a FF??? n also who is Donohue, this may sound very bad on my part, but what can u tell me about him???

Name is Adam, son of Larry who was Cats FF in the 70s and went on to own a pub on the highway in Winchelsea. Kicked a ton one year (105 in 1976, I think). Apparently Adam's a solid lad, but haven't heard much about whether he would be up to AFL level. Anyone seen him play and know how old he is?

Adam's 16 this year, eligible next year I think.

Solid size already, given his age.

I think we will get pick 8 this year, the players I would like to take then are:

Leroy Jetta- Fast flashy goal kicking midfielder who would add another dimension to our midfield, agility is amazing.
Mitch Thorpe- If this guy is available take him great mover whose good below his knees and above his head and can play forward or back.
Jack Reiwoldt- Strong mark and kicks goals can play up the ground more as well.
Joel Selwood- Gun Midfielder can play in and under as good as anyone in the draft but has great skills to top it off with.

Dont know whether to choose a midfielder or a kpp player, with hawkins wrapped up we should just go best available I think.

You'd be lucky to get Jetta or Thorpe at 8 Lingface, but Selwood and Reiwolt just might fall ...

yeah ive got thorpe at 3 but you never know, Jetta may last that long because of his height, I rate him as high as most in this draft though is an exceptional talent.

Would love Thorp to drop to our first pick - we'd be mad not to snaffle him if he did. I think there's a fair chance that one of the 'Big 4' (Hansen, Gumbleton, Sellar, Thorp) will drop as low as 8. Before the Championships I would have said Thorp was most likely, but maybe Sellar would be the favourite now. Hasn't done his prospects any favours with his performances so far. Would you take him if available?

The worry with Selwood is that he is not quick, and we already have a few in and under types - Bartel and Corey being two of the best in the league. I think our problems lie more around getting the ball away once we get it out, and for that we need ball carriers. Tenace, Byrnes, Varcoe might yet be the ones, but they're not yet.

Jetta could be good, provided our coaching staff can teach him that the most flashy option isn't always the best one. A bit of flair is great, but trying to be overly flashy at AFL level will turn the ball over more often than not. I wonder whether Collard might be a better option - bigger, stronger, just as skilled, almost as quick (although a little on the flashy side as well so the same provision would apply). Also the wraps aren't quite as big as Jetta so may last just that little bit longer.

I think Riewaldt would be the best option. It's very doubtful that one of the four will drop to our pick. and Riewaldt can play forward or back. and also isnt Gary Melakis son eligable next year. and i think his meant to be a solid kid.

Houli would be a good pick up too if he was still available by our pick. I really liked how he could get the ball out of the center bounces and break away fast. His foot and hand skills were pretty good too.

Gumbleton
Thorp
Hansen
Sellar
Gibbs
Riewoldt
Jetta
Selwood

In that order. Just tick them off as they get drafted and take the highest one that's still on the list.

If we miss the finals we get at least 1 of these guys. Along with Hawkins that's a pretty good draft.

Definatley go best available in the first round. We should end up with a top 10 pick and whoever that may be combined with Hawkins gives us a top 5 and a top 10 in the superdraft. Not bad going in anyones language. I'm sure that after Toms performance in the first two matches that if he wasn't F/S he would be talked about as being top 3. He has been the dominant player of the carnival so far and with another good showing on Sunday should receive the medal for the best player of the carnival. Not bad for a third rounder eh!!!

I like the look of both Hurley (SA) & Moss (WA) as on ballers from what I've seen and may turn up as bargains in the second round. Also Scmidt (SA) looks to be an ideal floating back flanker and I've been impressed with the workrate of Riddell the Metro FB. Needs to grow a few cm but if he does may again be second or third round option to back up our defensive stocks.

No doubt though that after the carnival the TAC finals series will once again have a big say on the order. Dale Thomas was sitting at around the 20-30 mark before last years GF and his 4 goal BOG display did a fair bit to shift him up in the ratings. Also blokes like Seller who has been quite so far may go back to SA and dominate bringing him back into top line contention.

Time will tell folks but I've sure enjoyed our one guaranteed draft selections performance so far.

Are you talking about our old Full Back Gary Malarkey? I not a 100% sure , Geecat would know but I dont think Gary has any future draftees on the horizon.
I think there are quite a few names around Couch and Neal were also eligible this year but dont appear to be obvious picks. Not all F/S's are Tom Hawkins in fact most are not. Further down the track Donohue and Brad Nankervis who is apparently showing some form over at South Barwon , may give us few options. The interesing thing will how they change the payment scheme for F/S's. I have no doubt if we were taking Tom next year he would cost us our R1 pick

Yeah thats the one i was talking about. God soon we'll nearly be able to make a team out of father sons. Can anyone confirm anything about Malakey?

i got a serious question...

all this talk of getting hawkins and another kpp forward is making me nervous for young boy nablett.. if geelong were to get hawkins and say another kpp forward like riewoldt, do you think nablett would stilll get a game? or you do you think they would push him out? or do you think they would play the whole 3 of them? i wanna see both abletts running around.. not just one!!!

Nablett's a dud. Has barely shown anything and no matter who you draft, he won't be on your list past the 2007 season. It was just a case of drafting by looking at potential, size and last name that got him to Geelong.

You would probably be a good judge on dud key forwards that are picked under the father son rule.

Congrats on being able to use a computer. Usually your kind can't. Now go put your teeth in, have your weekly shower and head off to centrelink.

Would you like to bet one dole payment on your statement?
