Unfortunately both Preston and Coburg have been uncompetitive for years and they really should drop down to a suburban league. We beat the former 161-4 on their home ground this year.

There has to be some moderate amount of Victorian-based independent teams for the 'pathway' for players that might not fit into the AFL-club system, though. If you were a young undrafted Victorian first ruck, what would you options be without it? Move interstate, play a different position, or play local footy, because the existing AFL-listed backup ruck would be obviously be the first ruck for the VFL team?

That sucks, Garner was pretty reliable for us when we struggled early on. I will note however that he missed most of the season once we got rolling

The fact that players get opportunities elsewhere is actually a real positive for our VFL program.

I think it’s part of the reason we got Poulter initially, as players see the clear pathway offered as a club that rewards VFL performance.

A few players have been drafted from there too, Hannan and more recently Jordan Boyd as well. Sullivan should be on an AFL list too, just not a place for him in our AFL side.

Looks like a mobile but very raw 19 year old ruckman. Odd that he was only given one year on the Swans list.

We just drafted his girlfriend at the Dogs in the AFLW so there's an obvious connection there already.

VFL, VFLW opening round fixtures confirmed

The first round of the 2024 VFL and VFLW seasons have today been confirmed, with VU Whitten Oval to play host to two matches.
