We played best this year with Two Rucks. Maric/Griff then Maric/Sellar.

Can see both Maric/Jacobs playing. Need to remember we are one of the lowest rotating sides in the comp, not just because of 2010 "curse" and our injuries. Therefore I am unsure this rule will hurt us as much as other clubs.

Think back to that SemiFinal with Collingwood in 2009. We had lost Knights and had a lame Burton in the forward line, effectively two down. Yet only lost by a kick to one of the heaviest rotaters in the league.

Maric is a more than capable forward, better kick than Tip. At times last season I thought swapping Maric with Tip when Tip had the yips could have won us a couple of more games. Maric could rest in the forward line when Jacobs Rucks, providing another option, and limiting the use of "loose men" in our forward line. Tip Walker and Macic as big men forward options could work well.

Matty Clarke basically said today it will be one key ruck and a versatile player

Terrible example. Knights getting injured was a turning point in the game and we got our ass kicked from that point.

we held our own against a side that was fully fit and the next year won a flag.

Re Matty Clarke saying one Ruck/Versatile player. Does that mean Smack or Sellar play with Jacobs or Maric? Who else we have that can be that Versatile player role.

Tip is the other, but surely he is a permanent forward/Ruck in forward now.

I cant see many of those "Verstile" player types having long careers. Look at Dean Cox.

You just can't afford 17 players rotating through 2 bench positions and two guys through the other.

The 'other' ruck has got to be able to rotate through other positions. McKernan, Sellar and Moran can all do this, Ivan has to re-invent himself a little bit to be a second ruckman, or win the first ruck position.

No way in the world would I be writing the bloke off. He's got plenty of heart and is also a fair talent, with lots of improvement left in him.

Competition for selection is a really healthy thing and if we can get the same for all positions then we know we'll have a squad with planty of depth and we'll be in a really strong position.

No, from the point of Knight's injury, we couldnt be described as holding our own.

We went from a comfortable, supposedly unassailable position to losing. Massive downturn in performance.

Did the same thing in 2007 with a full bench.

Considering Giles slid through the draft I wonder if we will have any interest in him for the rookie draft.

I know rendell likes him, but i dont think he is good enough for afl.
Too short and not athletic enough, or else GC would have taken him.
Maybe Melbourne will with rookie pick.

No, Gold Coast didn't pick him because they didn't need him. Along with Naitanui and Kruezer, they've got 2 of the best 4 young ruck prospects in the country in Smith and Gorringe, not to mention Fraser for the short term, as well as a good 2-3 other young 200cm+ ruck/kpp prospects. Quite frankly I'm surprised they even bothered with Gorringe, such is Smith's quality.

GC took Fraser whose no good anymore they could have taken Giles but didnt. They also could have taken him and traded him to anyother club who wanted him, but no one wanted him.
Very good SANFL player.
Gorringe is a potential star of course GC shoud take him. What if something happens to Smith or doesnt develop, Gorringe will be there.
