I would take a forward capable of kicking 100 goals a season over ANY midfielder.

There is about 4 or 5 players i would take over ablett.

The only player that really even compares to Ablett is Franklin. (I didn't even say Judd and I go for Carlton! )

Some people have said how Buddy could play in the midfield, Ablett not in the forward line. Well based on Ablett's ability to rack up 4 goals a game from the midfield and that sort of thing I think he could potentially be a very high scoring forward. Also if he's anything like his Dad, who started in mid and went forward to be awesome up forward who knows what'll happen for gary jr.

I'm pretty sure, that every forward that has ever played the game will get beaten by the best fullbacks in the competition on occasions.... maybe....

If you're saying Franklin is crap because he lost a couple of contests, then that's dumb, but if you're saying that he's not as amazing and consistent and invincible as some make him out to be because he lost to the two best FBs in the comp, then what's dumb about that?

stats do not tell the whole story. a player could have 50 posessions against the hawks, and 95% of would be behind centre, with minimal impact (think Kerr and Priddis vs us this season).

In the grand final, despite geelong fan's claims, Ablett was simmilar, with a fair chunk having minimal impact. sure, he got a few touches, but did it go anywhere? I would call that beaten. When franklin kicked 1.7, and 3.6, that tells you he had 8 and 9 shots on goal, yet why is it he was "beaten," because he had minimal impact.

it is amazing how easy midfielders have it.

He dominated scarlett in the home and away season kikcing 4 goals 6 or someting like that.

He wasn't 100 percent in the granny hes going to kick 100 atleast 3 more times in his career

if geelong fans are basing skill on disposals that mean sammy mitchell is better than gary abblett so is joel corey because they got more disposals then him this season

gary abblett is good but not a freak like franklin and why are we comparing these 2 anyways they play a different position

id like to see how g abblett goes playing permanent FF and vs defenders like lake or hudgton

id also like to see buddy playing the mid and extract the ball like sammy or kerr

see what i mean both these scenarios just wouldnt work

If the entire playing list of the AFL became available in a draft, there'd be enough elite midfielders in the pool for every team to have one.

Not too many 100 goal CHFs getting around though.

Franklin would go at pick one.
Ablett might go at pick two.

As I said earlier, I believe Ablett is the better player, but if I were to pick a team I would go Franklin first merely because of his size.

You really do have a problem with everything Geelong don't you? I believe Ablett is the best player in the comp, but Franklin is second, and because of his size I'd take him because KPP's don't come around all that often.

I think you might have a complex.

Good luck to the recruiter who passes up on Franklin given the opportunity to pick between the 2.

Franklin is clearly number 1 in the world by that far it aint funny.

Are you serious??? Hudgeton sexually molested him every time the ball went near them both times we played them this year how do you expect someone to dominate when that is going on? not only that he had a hand injury and couldnt mark over his head in the last 2 finals. Scarlett had his measure in the granny yet still he set up 3 goals and kicked 2 himself so it wasnt as clear cut a win for scarlett as many ppl think. 1 all between scarlett and franklin for the year, not many players beat scarlett in any game of football. At 21 he is only going to get better and it will be much harder for all defenders to contain him.

^^ True, franklin clearly wasn't 100% in the last two finals. And in Rd16 when he played on Hughton, he totally outplayed him in the first half, the second half the ball just didn't get down there.

Plus, of course, there was a lot of obvious and overt holding done by Hughton on to Franklin's arm/s that would've got a lot more scrutiny had we managed to lose the preliminary final.
