Alex Pearce has done an admirable job since he stepped in in place of Nat Fyfe in 2022, leading us to the finals in that year, and bouncing back from a poor season in 2023 to AA quality form in 24/25 that has been cruelly cut down down by injury, as is the unfortunate story of his career. He’s a deep thinker of the game and has been a great spokesperson for the club.

His injuries have given us a look at Caleb Serong as captain, one of my favourite players, and someone I always thought could lead us given his unbridled fierceness and passion for the club.

But the time has come for us to make this decision once and for all and for it to stick long term, and that man is clearly, without a doubt Andrew Brayshaw. He deserves to be the leader of this club going forward and we deserve him, he embodies the way we want to play in every way and what the next era of the Dockers should look like. He speaks well, inspires others, and plays hard. Enough said - the time has come for the baton to be passed.

Who do you think should captain us next year and into the future?

Still think most of the time co-captains is just not having the balls to make a decision so you make half a decision instead.

Every year Pearce is captain, the more likely Serong is the next one. Not sure Serong is even too young now but that’d be the main argument for Brayshaw - both would be good options, as would sticking with Pearce another year.

Think Serong is a better choice tbh.

There’s been a moments in few games this year where someone has needed to stand up and it’s come to Brayshaw for a shot at goal and he hasn’t delivered. I know the Sydney game is probably fresh in people’s memories in regards to Serong but it’s a bit of a one off. Just feel when there’s big moments Serong is more likely to step up.

FWIW that isn’t everything but I think everything else is pretty similar anyway.

I am happy with Moose for another year. I think JT is a really serious option. He comes across to me as being the perfect modern alpha male. When he played WAFL the coach spoke of what a great team man he is. He appeared well spoken, thoughtful and gentle when on the pod with Mundy and Logue, yet (to quote my mother) he plays like a bulldozer. He owns the forward line tactically on game day.

Despite being young I think he has more natural authority than Andy or Caleb. I think he has the best features of both of them.

I don't always pay attention to everything going on at the ground before the game, but I have seen Brayshaw addressing the midfielders when they split up into their groups before the opening bounce. It was very noticeable for the Anzac Day game and he went on to have a monster game.

Maybe they take it in turns and I happen to miss the times when Serong does it, but from what I've seen it seems to me that Brayshaw is the leader of the midfield bunch ahead of Serong.

No votes for Serong is absurd. I think he’s got a fire in his belly that we sometimes lack without being over the top. I’ve never seen a player so determined to bring success to this club.

You can’t go wrong with Brayshaw either, professionalism and courage personified. I wouldn’t be opposed to Serong and Brayshaw co-captaining.

Moose has done a fine job post-Fyfe but I feel the combination of him and JL are a bit too placid. Plus I’d like a captain who’s guaranteed to be out there 20+ games a season.

To hear Reid talk about staying with brayshaw when he first came over and how instrumental it was to feeling comfortable at the club was a feather in AB cap.
Serong has a Fyfe like drive to succeed and will be our most awarded player over this decades but I feel AB makes the players around him better with his energy.

Gee it's a tough call.
Moose - obviously consistently been the players' choice.
Serong - outstanding competitor, hard at it, on-field leader
Treacy - on the front foot, taking the game on and dragging everyone with him, absolute inspiration
BUT
Brayshaw - I think is the all-round package. The way he came off the field firing up the crowd on saturday. I think he's the best combo of brains, passion, work, words, on/off-field and reliability.
VC - Serong
Forwards Leader - Treacy
Backs Leader - Moose
