Fremantle - Post Match Thoughts

Dangerfield and Roo, I can see why they compare the two, but Mckay and Edwards? not even close.

No disrespect to Tyson, but I wouldn't even need to think about who I would pick out of himself and Roo, Roo everyday day of the week for me.

ummm... but that was exactly what Jo said.

You misunderstood my post:)

I wasn't comparing them as types of players but the type of career path they'd follow. Namely Mackay will probably forever be in the shadow of Dangerfield, Vince, Thompson etc. a la Edwards relative to Mcleod and Roo.

And That was my point in that you'd choose Roo over Edwards, and by extension Dangerfield over Mackay.

The Pick 10 2007 thread really should be bumped once a week for good measure.

cannot compare the two until the conclusion of their respective careers for a true analysis.

However at this stage Danger>>>>>>>>>>Ebert.

Im really shitty at Freo, they have provided us with terrible prep for the Saints game.

That was training drill on Sat night. In fact if you got 18 people from the crowd they would have been more competitive than the rabble we played against.

Freo they screw us even when we win by almost 20 goals.

I am not sure Danger isn't showing more at the same stage of his career as Roo.

Roo had a good start to his career. He played 19 games and averaged 20 disposals per game in his first year with 27 disposals in his 7th game and 30 disposals in his 8th.

However he wasn't asked to do the variety of jobs that Danger is and only kicked 2 goals in total in his first year. I don't have his contested possession figures either but its hard to believe they were as high as Danger's are.

I am loving watching Dangerfield play this year because it's not that often you get the chance to see the birth of the career of a dead set champion - and Dangerfield will be one.

Danger is Mark Ricciuto re-incarnated!! :)

he also played on a wing, was broadly left alone and got nothing like the contested possessions that Danger did.

agree. its strange to see someone who just has "it" in spades.

Ridiculous comments. I'm sure the players wouldn't have forgotten how to play a tough, physical game of footy because of coming up against one (very) poor opposition.

They'll be fine. A 20 goal win can only be great for the confidence of the individual players and the group as a whole.

My apologies Jo, I completely misunderstood and see your point, I think when i read the "gun to head" part, I thought you were saying it was actually hard to split them.

So I'm a little late to the party because I only just got an oppurtunity to watch the match, but hoooly shit, we MURDERED them!!

When you come up against a side as impotent as Fremantle with any decent players they had out with injury, you worry that your side is going to just take the foot off the pedal and ease it in. The Crows were hard at the man the ENTIRE NIGHT! The tackling was phenominal, they forced turnovers more often than Freo just giving the ball away (which considering how often Freo did just give it away is amazing) and they were clean as could be.

Dangerfield's game was incredible. Admittedly against weaker bodies than those in the top four sides but how often did he just crash through a tackle, or get his arms/feet free and get the ball moving forward through traffic. Just beautiful stuff :thumbsu:

Mackay has been showing signs for two years now and gee he came to the fore this weekend. His run and carry was at the highest level and his ability to put a ball to advantage is as good as anyone I've seen. In the past I've said (along with every else) that he A) looks like a 100-game veteran, and B) looks like Tyson Edwards. Today I want to say he looks like Tyson Edwards did after 100 games. He is going to be incredible for us.

Tippett had nine scoring shots, his best return ever in that regard. But for a couple of crappy kicks on an angle he was up for another 7 goal game. I know he was playing against an undermanned side but he has X factor written all over him. Last year after his 4 goal performance I remember stating that by 2011 he'd be in the top 2 key forwards in the comp. That call is starting to look less silly by the week :thumbsu:

I LOVE the fact that our current mix allows Porps to roam up into the centre part of the time. Whenever we're in trouble we just put the ball near him and rely on him to get us going and he never lets the team down.

Our defence was back to it's 05/06 best, where the ball would go into the opposition 50 and I'd be looking at the defence thinking "alright, how are we going to get this ball out of here" - you just know they're going to work it out. The players work so well together that it's like watching machines. You can see players glance at the contest, see a 2 on 1 in the Crows favour, and they spread out just waiting to receive the handballs to get out. It's beautiful.

Vince and Thompson, take a bow. These two are inside and outside leading our midfield beautifully.

I could go on and write about every player. This really was a case of all played well. Even Sellar put in an acceptable performance in only his third game. I'm so proud of the boys :)

To add to your defense comment Satbby, it's the weight of numbers. Nothing looks better than when we have 5 guys running together, you just know your in for a good treat. Even when in trouble, those backs work so well together, Bock, Rutten, Johncock, Otten, Dogga, Bunji, VB, all seem to know what each other will do.

Absolutely slaughtered freemantle. That night was a debacle for them.

From the get go we controlled the match. Our pressure and tackling + workrate was superb all night. Everyone contributed and played well.

Dangerfield showed us glimpses of what he is going to be like. Such a strong body for a young lad.

Thompson is killing it atm. He may not be elite just yet but he is getting there.

Tippet- Took some strong mark's, and while missed a few kick's still kicked a bag of 5.

Foward line shared around. I've never seen us have so many options. It's great and only going to get better.

Great win and so good that we didn't take our collective foot off the opposition's throat as we have so many times in the past. If we had smashed the Tigers as we should have, our % would now be on a par with Collingwood.
Not sure if we can draw any other lessons from smashing a team that would be battling to head the Bullamakanka 3rds. 'All played well', but would you expect less against that opposition?
The next few weeks will tell us where we are in relation to the best in the competition. Our forwards have worked well and it's great that we have a multi-pronged attack, but let's see how they go against the Saints, the side that has the best organised backline in the competition.
If we pass the tests we are faced with in the next few weeks we are a real chance for the flag.

:thumbsu: The other thing that makes him good is his strong mind - just his determination and desperation to get the ball, stand up and do something with it. Combines it with his strong body and does the no 32 proud.

Watching it on the weekend, his run and carry actually made me think that I was watching, not the new Edwards, but the new McLeod. Big call, and perhaps he doesn't have the McLeod magic, but I've been wondering whether we have someone coming through who can find space then run, carry and deliver with the efficiency and effectiveness that McLeod does - then it occurred to me that McKay might be the one, just gliding through the middle or along the wing, finding a way through traffic as if he's invisible and untouchable, and pinpoint delivery.

I'm hoping for another year from Macca, but a worthy successor awaits...
